Daniel, I have never really stopped and taken a look at the Matayoshi version of Shuji no Kon, what a beautiful version and what a splendid performance! 🙇♂️
Thank you Stefan, both versions can offer much for training and the dynamics in matayoshi focusing heavily on use of the body to generate power. It is a basic but enjoyable Kata.
Daniel, I checked your site to see where your Matayoshi Kobudo comes from, but your site lists Inoue-lineage as the source. Can you share where you learned this Matayoshi kata?
The Burinkan Dojo Hi, of course, I teach Ryukyu Kobujutsu at my dojo now of the Inoue Lineage and only train in Matayoshi for myself and for the odd private student. My Matayoshi teacher was Jhonny Bernaschewice Shihan from Belgium who was a student of Gakiya Sensei, Yogi Sensei and several others
I have heard many years ago that some people have suspected that there were metal points hidden in the staff ends. ( They thought this because of some katas treat the staff more like a spear ). Have you heard anything about this ?
You may very well have personalised staff used by individuals in that way but it was almost certainly a novelty personalisation nothing more wide spread
Daniel Pyatt oh for sure. I can't imagine how skilled you must be now. Do you have any tips for people trying to teach themselves through videos like these?
Well firstly I'd say you can check out the instructional videos I've done some on the basic movements and techniques here ruclips.net/video/-4jVzSdjDcQ/видео.html I''ve done a full miniseries breaking down key points of this kata in quite a lot of depth ruclips.net/video/g1aYzIrxlm8/видео.html And then I've done a bit more Kobudo stuff I play to do some more soon. When I first started Kobudo I had to travel for 8 hours to get to my teacher so would travel stay for a week at time and then come back and practice intently for a while before returning this was good because it gave me lots to practice and work on which was really valuable but I'd seek out a teacher even if you can only train once or twice a year at first and build up from there. Where in the world are you based I may be able to recommend someone?
I actually do this version which is the Matayoshi Shushi no Kon and then Shuji no Kon Sho, Shuji no Kon Dai and Koshiki no Shuji. But there is only video footage of this one currently. 👍🏻
Thank you for comment, Yes I practice Karate, Ryukyu Kobujutsu, Matayoshi Kobudo, Aikijujutsu and Iaijutsu. I sincerely hope you enjoy our other videos :)

Daniel Pyatt how long have you been training with a bo staff?
Hunter Shillingburg I’ve been doing Bo since 2009 this was 6 years ago though so I’ve moved on a fair bit since lol
