I am going to interject here. I know this is a 40k on a budget video but planning to make a 2000point army take a little more planning than just buying combat patrol boxes (Grey Knights and Drukhari get away with just buying the CB multiple times without problems). I have a GSC army. You only need two Combat Patrols, that will give you 1265 points. you can magnetize the Dozer and weapon on the Truck to make the truck/rockgrinder. use the extra bodies from the transports to make the Nexos, Primus, Biophagus and any other character you want with the extra bits from the neophytes. when you do that, you get a total of 1475 point. After that I would recommend getting the Ridge Runner, Jackal Alphus, a box of Aberants, Genestealers and the Patriach Box. That will bring the total to an MSRP of $595 BUT this gives you a better overall army at 1965 points. you get to play with all the runs you have all the character and any new "Value Box" as you can get your ass the bother the Neophytes and the Acolytes will be in any future box. The last thing you forgot to mention, with another youtuber made a video about (Christian Von Carmian) mentioned it GSC is prime army for kit bashing.
Even at $595 you are still within the $600 tier. I mention it briefly near the end, but with 3 combat patrols you are going to have $120 left over to pick up Nexos, Ridge Runers, Jackales, etc. before you break that tier into the one below. The biggest thing for me is just the pure value. Eventually as a GSC player you are GOING to want more acolytes, you are GOING to want more neophytes, you are GOING to want more Goliaths. The combat patrol rocks in at over 4 pts per dollar where the rest of the army on average is 1.8 (1.7 is we cut aberrants). It is the best relative value combat patrol in the game and if someone were to try to start GSC this would give them enough of a core that they would also be a bit more resistant to nerfs as if both neophytes AND acolytes are bad, then GSC is bad by nature of the army. I neglected the bodies on the rock grinder being extra models you could run for kit bashing.
As is every guard and sisters kit! One of my local GSC players actually uses T'au as the core of his kit bash. His special weapon Neophytes/Acolytes are made of crisis suit chasis, his Nexos uses an upside down drone hat for the table, his rank and file dudes are pathfinders/fire warriors, his Rockgrinders are covered in shield generators, etc.
Just a quick correction: In 10th edition right now, just with the GSC infex rules, you cannot take Tyranid units in your army. Maybe that will change with their codex, but right now it's not something you can do without homwbrew rules or playing a previous edition. Imperial Guard are fine, but you're picking from a list of specific units
You know, it would have been funny if this video was released as a RUclips short. Spend 90% of the runtime on your usual preamble and then just say "Buy three combat patrols. That's it. That's literally it."
I purchased two Combat Patrols, split the Shadow Throne box with a custodes player, and picked up a couple of characters on sale from a shop. Going to kitbash more characters and neophytes with necromunda bits so i have some women in the army.
I'm really contemplating GSC as my second army after painting up Marines. So tired of power armor. Going to have to really think about picking up three or four combat patrol boxes before the new codex drops this summer and GW changes the contents of the box. Always struck me as strange that GSC was describes as one of the most expensive armies when you could get 95% of the way there with the boxes. The painting would absolutely be a real slog. The models are incredibly detailed for how many you need and for how short they will stay alive on the table once the enemy just looks at them.
If you were certain you wanted to do GSC I think my go to move would be to pick up 2 copies of the combat patrol sooner rather than later and hold off on the third combat patrol. Then once the new combat patrol gets announced, see how it looks. If it is a bad combat patrol you can go safely pick up the third box easily (instead of trying to panic buy all 3) and if the new combat patrol is still good/accents the old combat patrol nicely then you can easily pick that up instead of the third copy of the current one. As soon as you are buying outside of the combat patrol the prices are insane. It's close to admech level without the discount boxes.
I bought 6 CPs, so I have maxed out Neophytes, maxed Abberants, half of max Acolytes and all my Rockgrinders and half my Trucks. I got most of my stuff for even lower than most of the 15% off! I currently have a little over 6k GSC points!
The GSC Combat Patrol is so good, it's practically an indictment of every other CP (barring Custodes). This is what a value box SHOULD be. Something that lets people get into the army in a way that's affordable. GW could then nickel and dime people on all the kits not included, like the Atalan Jackels or foot heroes. The fact that so many other armies have at best mediocre CPs is criminal. (Especially AdMech, who already have the single worst points-to-dollar ratios bar none; their new new CP is somehow worse than the previous one).
In hindsight, the neophyte squads in the list should have different loadouts. Each 10 man sprue only has one of each special weapon, when you can get 2 normals and 2 heavy weapons per 10 man squad, so you should have mixed it up to make it possible to actually assemble. Maybe have the 500 point team have a pair of 10 man sqauds, with a cannon/webber combo in one and mining laser/grenade launcher combo in the other. Then just make each of those setups into 20 man squads in the 1000 point setup. And by the time you're rocking three 20 man squads, make the last one flamer/heavy stubber to deal with hordes or drown elites in dice.
I love your budget series, been binge watching them all. Although just got the Battleforce to start a GCS army. Sadly the old Combat Patrol is inching up in price, found a good deal on the Battleforce which was slightly less than what the old Combat Patrol is trending on ebay. Do you have any plans on releasing an updated vid on GSC, if so when? Its something I would really like to see.
I can honestly say that is an oopsie on my part. Whenever I play against GSC I never get to turn 3, so I completely missed that they get worse revive over time.
This is not a repost. The army rule as listed in the pdf's on the Warhammer Community index page (updated on the same day as the most recent dataslate) is what I used for the army rule. You are right that tanks cannot come back. I'm not sure if I incorrectly stated such.

Remember kids, any Necromunda kit is a genestearler kit
As is every guard and sisters kit!

@Speeds_Gaming_Corner what can you use sisters for? Acolytes? Tau sounds difficult to model because you have to still give them the gsc guns
@@stuntman083 you can use them for any infantry model you want. Just swap out some heads here or there, swap out some hands from leftover bits, etc.

He did say a splash of Tyranids, genestealers themselves can be nids or GSC so hes technically not wrong?

If you either kitbash or buy some other characters you can proxy an extra Magus as a Primaris Psyker for Brood Brothers!
This was one hell of a treat to wake up to! Thank you!

This one genuinely surprised me with where it landed
The combat patrol is just so good! I am scared of what their new combat patrol will be with the track record GW has been showing us of lowered value.

I believe I mentioned that specifically in the "pros and cons"

I do have plans to. I'm just taking a small hiatus while i work on a different kind of video and deal with some life stuff
I think the video is a little behind on the dataslates because they only get a +2 to their army rule on turns 1 and 2 and +1 rounds 3 and onwards
I can honestly say that is an oopsie on my part. Whenever I play against GSC I never get to turn 3, so I completely missed that they get worse revive over time.
wait the genestealer cult have fw and finecast options?!
You should do a craftworlds guide!
alas, the cult has arrived.
Praise to the 4 armed emperor.
wait the genestealer cult have fw and finecast options?! oh right guard and nid options
They do not, but I use the same intro for every video because it's a good general disclaimer.
Posted 4 hours ago? Is this a repost? Is it 3 plus for battle line units in the first 2 turns and the 4 plus after? I'm not sure you can return tanks?
This is not a repost. The army rule as listed in the pdf's on the Warhammer Community index page (updated on the same day as the most recent dataslate) is what I used for the army rule.
You are right that tanks cannot come back. I'm not sure if I incorrectly stated such.
Battle line unit only get a plus 1
You’re probably gonna have to re-do this video in the future 🤣
I'm going to be redoing all of the videos when it becomes relevant to :)
All of the new combat patrols are complete dogshit...thanks James Workshop
I have my gripes with the tau one but it's actually not terrible. It's just insane looking at what we had even just 5 years ago compared to now
