It was a moment of faith, devotion and gratitude for the victories achieved against the German Army, in Monte Castelo, Monte Cassino and Fornovo, breaking the Gothic Line and paving the way for the definitive takeover of Italy by the allies. These inexperienced soldiers were bullied before the fighting. Someone said it would be easier to see a snake smoking than to see those soldiers win a battle. But contrary to expectations, they fought and won. From that day forward, they began to use a shield with a smoking snake as an insignia.
