Clematis, peonies, and berries oh my! Gotta run down the street to my Home Depot! Peonies, I used to have good luck with when I lived across town and had a shady yard. And I planted one here in my Lewisville yard, and it finally bloomed gorgeously last spring. It’s the third year for that peony and I wondered if I planted it too deep. But thankfully it had enough cold last year to finally bloom. Just one bloom, but it was gorgeous so I’m hopeful for more this year. I would like to move it, but I’m thinking I’ll just run to Home Depot and get another one and plant it in another area. Thanks so much for the tour, Amanda! Hope we get another tour of your beautiful garden in person this year. It was great to meet you last year and see all your hard work in person.
I do grow hostas in pots, can’t keep them alive in the ground. They look pretty good til about September, then they’ve had enough. I’ve got 3 huge live oaks so I always need shade plants. Mine have the varigated leaves. Your foxgloves look amazing! Posting this January 30th, we caught 5 1/2”s of rain here about 1 1/2 miles from you! So much rain but good for our lakes
Favorites--clematis, peony, foxgloves!!!! Lilac too! I hope to start foxgloves this year--want perennial or biennial growth habit. It is so interesting for me to watch what you can do in your growing zone! You Go Girl! ☔❄
I’ve grown blueberries in my central Texas Hillcountry zone 8A but in large containers that I can keep really moist. They get mostly full sun with shade starting about 3:30 or 4 pm. They have great fall color too.
After a couple of years I have to start using a soil acidifier because our water is very high in pH and that can cause iron chlorosis as well. I just add chelated iron when needed.
According to a gardener I follow here in NC, the Miss Kim lilac is supposed to do well in our southern heat. Also in zone 8a NC my foxglove over winter and make it through the summer but not as happy. 😊
I have tried 7 different varieties over several years and they just didnt live. The only colors that are still alive for me are the plain green and the plain blue leafed one. My son has a rasberry bed and he built the whole bed from digging out the bed, putting in losts of compst and peat moss. He bordered the bed with landscape timbers. And yes, the rasberry plants are aggressive. We have more rasberries then we can eat. He couldnt even give them away to friends. 😮. Back to the hostas. I grew all my hostas in like half barrel containers, well maybe quarter barrel size. And have had them for 5 or six years. They multiply and they are big georgeous in containers. Once established they are carefree, watering in hot summer. I started a blackberry bed last year and left room for the runners to root. All are doing very well. Delicious berries. Im growing Arapaho. I wanted to have the berries so I could make blackberry jelly since I already make peach jelly...yumm. And my son has blueberries too. They do very well. So I think were good on the berry department.
As with many poisonous plants, foxglove is also a medicinal plant. It is the source of digitalis used by people with heart trouble. Amazing how many poisonous plants grow commonly in gardens.
Because this is the second time you’ve had a cold hit you I’ll share what I did for years to keep myself from falling ill. I took 50 mg of chelated Zinc, 5000IU Vit D3, and Nature’s Way brand Vit B Complex daily. While everyone else dropped like flies I managed to remain healthy. It’s only when I haven’t maintained that regime that I’ve gotten sick. Hope it helps.
I love hostas (happened when I was at a home tour when I visited KCMO for the first time), but when I attempted to plant them here in north TX, those attempts were thwarted by squirrels that ate them...regardless of corms/bulbs(?) or small plants. So, I gave up. Might try again in the backyard, and might make some cloches until they're more established...?
I couldn’t help myself and I bought two black raspberry plants. And three more blueberry plants. And another fig and another dwarf peach. I have a normal sized yard. I may have a plant buying problem.
Same here! I’m getting FOMO looking at all the plants that I probably don’t need but really want! We can cram as much as we want in our gardens. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
GM … LOL the Hosta drama is everywhere . I love them and man what a challenge they are . last year I shredded my first one while weeding .But it did come up and did ok my next one just burnt up !!
I WISH I could grow hosta here in the low AZ desert! But they aren't even offered for sale here. I had them when I lived back East. Can't grow blueberries berries here either!
Lime lights bloom on old growth dont they? Dont cut more than 1/3 back if i understand right. But may be wrong. Been listening to Creekside videos and they do a lot of hydrangeas
I'm nervous because I didn't realize foxgloves were poisonous. My August seed starts I put in one of my beds back in October where I'm planting tomatoes. Should I move them? Is that even an option? I wanted to incorporate flowers with my vegetables. What should I do?
Wonderful video wonderful information but hold on a second. You said you started from seed your foxglove November 18 that is when I started my seeds and I just put them out yesterday. I live in Florida but they were only 2 inches tall how in the world did you get yours So so so huge please let me know.
Peonies are the most beautiful flower to me but growing them I just think they are a little short lived for my space because I don’t have a large area. I have I think it’s sorbet and a new one I planted last year is a famous woman’s name I can’t remember and a little sprig of a plant that never blooms and I keep trying. lol. I ordered a blue mouse ears hosta. It’s little and cute and I would rather have a few than one giant one for my space.
I potted in large container against fence. Replanted last year in large posts and training along fence. Didn't care them well so think I'm reason didn't do so good. Also need male and female....or is that blueberries needing male and female....box stores don't tell you what they are. Blueberries in huge pot too. Bought plastic pots at Sams
thanks for the tour at hd. they have some really nice plants. i'm going to see at my hd what they have. thank you for sharing.
Planning a trip to Home Depot! Thanks Amanda!

Definitely will be having an in person tour again this year!
We have snow on our grounds now. It's amazing that you can plant in January 😮
Love the tour. I’m so excited that you are already planting outside. The foxgloves are going to be stunning in your garden.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how they grow!
Our window of temps arent as long as yours but hopefully get some seeds planted for vegies . Keep having fun!
Foxgloves are so gorgeous 😍
I love them too!

Hi am starting to look at the flowers to plant already also. I am trying to start more from seed now, wish me luck

The blue green hosta varieties are not as bothered by the slugs.
I hope your foxgloves thrive!
So excited.
💚💚💚
Jung seeds has a few bare root strawberry varieties ,I ordered from them before and I still enjoy those strawberries.😀
Love seeing you work in the garden.🐞💐🦋 I love clematis too ❤️
Try in shade under willow tree and few kernels of sluggish bait or get ones that are sluggish resistant.
Your Foxglove are going to be beautiful! I think the smaller hostas in your shade garden along with your huechera's will be pretty.
Someone suggested one called Mouse Ears!
@shesamadgardener it's cute stays really small.
Always enlightening!
💚💚💚
I was there yesterday. Found lots of goodies.
I love Home Depot for garden finds!
Love
Foxglove
Same 💚
Thank you for the tour at HD...It makes me jealous as our HD in the Pacific Islands is nothing compared to the States side.😅
So looking for spring

Starting some fox gloves this weekend . They are talking snow ,so I will be in the house ! My begonias are up but so teeny tiny, hope they will grow !
It's great that your begonias are up!
I am amazed that they had so many bare root plants at HD 😮 ☔️
They were really well stocked, weren't they?
According to a gardener I follow here in NC, the Miss Kim lilac is supposed to do well in our southern heat. Also in zone 8a NC my foxglove over winter and make it through the summer but not as happy. 😊
Yeah my summers just fry the foxglove.
I grew my strawberry's in a small child's poole n they did great. FL 8b/9a grew in part shade.❤
Great idea and cost effective too!
I'm with you on the hostas. I find them to be high maintenance which plants are banned from my garden 😊
Hostas are definitely a lot of work!
I have tried 7 different varieties over several years and they just didnt live. The only colors that are still alive for me are the plain green and the plain blue leafed one. Sounds like you’ve had some great gardening adventures! Your raspberries and blackberries sound awesome!!!
@@shesamadgardener Yeah, I cant wait til the blackberries make enough so I can start making jelly. 😋
i have a smaller property... i cant live without my fall gold :-) put them in a grow bag...
Grow bags are a great option for smaller spaces!
As with many poisonous plants, foxglove is also a medicinal plant. It is the source of digitalis used by people with heart trouble. Amazing how many poisonous plants grow commonly in gardens.
So cool how many plants are used for medication!

wondering if I should try to over winter some lantana next time I plant?
Definitely! It will save you some cash!

Plant them in containers. Mine do beautifully in them, not so much in the ground
I didn’t even consider wildlife digging them up to eat 🤔

GM … LOL the Hosta drama is everywhere . I love them and man what a challenge they are . last year I shredded my first one while weeding .But it did come up and did ok my next one just burnt up !!
Yeah they might be a little dramatic for my abilities!
Would love to have raspberries again but not only do they spread, the birds always get the berries before I do!
Oh I didn’t know that about the birds!
I WISH I could grow hosta here in the low AZ desert! But they aren't even offered for sale here. I had them when I lived back East. Can't grow blueberries berries here either!
Oh I bet it’s tough to grow some things in your area!
Mine are in ground and white and tons of ants. Also need supports to hold them up full sun.
I just ordered blue angel and has big dimensions....May be slug resistant...suggested by a landscape designer
😀

Oh my, starting to see weeks but not that much 😂
Lime lights bloom on old growth dont they? Dont cut more than 1/3 back if i understand right. But may be wrong. Been listening to Creekside videos and they do a lot of hydrangeas
Limelights are a panicle hydrangea so they bloom on new wood. I cut mine back every year and have beautiful blooms!
@shesamadgardener there are so many and I forget!
I'm nervous because I didn't realize foxgloves were poisonous. My August seed starts I put in one of my beds back in October where I'm planting tomatoes. Should I move them? Is that even an option? I wanted to incorporate flowers with my vegetables. What should I do?
Do not plant foxglove by anything you are eating! I would leave the foxglove where they are and plant your tomatoes somewhere else if possible.
Grow your berries in hanging baskets

I live in Florida but they were only 2 inches tall how in the world did you get yours So so so huge please let me know.
Mine are getting 16 hours of light per day and fertilized every two weeks … they have done beautifully for me!
😊

Peonies are beautiful but I totally understand about the space thing - the Mouse Ears sounds adorable!
🤗

I love hostas but they burn where I live (Central FL). :(
I think that would happen to mine in Texas as well.
❤
💚💚💚
🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
I love hosta FL 8b/9a, but they are a shade garden for me. Took the only one I have inside, and it has gotten so big. Lice your youtube
Yeah I definitely think mine would need to be in the shade garden.

Lots of great information. Interesting how plants can be so poisonous. 🤔
Yes, many common garden plants are poisonous.
