    Today we look at 3 of the best shred scales and how to use them to sound amazing! These scales are closely related and we only have to adjust minor details to get from one scale to the next :) As always the tabs, guitar pro files, and practice backing tracks are online on my Patreon page: www.patreon.com/bernth

    I'm currently in the second week of the "10 steps to modern shredding" guitar course and besides that i'm using your youtube instructions as an addition. I can't believe how much my knowledge about music theory has changed within these 2 weeks. Thank you for that. I'm super excited to see what's still to come in the next 8 weeks. You're one of the best guitar teachers out there and deserve way more recognition!

    Wow, the E Phrygian Dominant scale is literally the beginning of Informal Gluttony by Between the Buried and Me. It's all the same notes, mostly in the same order. Crazy how simple this stuff is when you know the right scales.

  • @vincevandergraff1508
    @vincevandergraff1508 Год назад

    ive recently been revisiting the harmonic minor modes while playing along to backing tracks, and i must say that these scales can definitely spice things up when you want to break out with something that doesnt sound stock. beware that they dont always sound good when used loosely.

  • @ZaThrint
    @ZaThrint 4 года назад +4

    Another really dark exotic scale to use is the double harmonic scale. It takes the characteristics of both harmonic minor and phrygian dominant and combines them. Take the phrygian dominant scale and raise the 7th, so that in the context of E Phrygian Dominant: E F G# A B C D#

    We must be on the same page, because those 3 scales are my top ones before I even clicked on this! I like how the 7th mode of hungarian minor is a leading tone with a minor triad which can create an evil blackmetal sound!

    If this guy is too advanced for you, check out Paul Davids. Another great teacher but a bit slower for a beginner. Then you can move to Bernth and become 1% talent. This guy is great, but was too good for me in the beginning. Now I'm working to his videos and seeing actual results, but slower was needed first.

    Another awesome video Bernth thanks dude!
    I’ve been learning the harmonic minor scale lately and really dig the sound, especially against some sinister sounding death metal riffs.
    Quick question, do you generally prefer 3nps scale shapes over the box positions? When I first learned it was with the box positions, but I find 3nps patterns allows me to play through them faster and helps with traversing the fretboard horizontally.

    Hallo.
    Was ich da oft nicht verstehe bei den Skalen ist, aus diesen Tönen bekommt man dann ja keine "vernümftige" Akkorde.
    Müsste sich ja eigentlich alles sehr schräg anhören. Tut es aber irgendwie nie.
    Generell tue ich mir sehr schwer bei den verschiedenen Tonarten. Oft sind es die gleichen Töne aber trotzdem eine andere Tonart.
    Wie hier z.B. Harmonisch moll und Phrygisch Dominat, absolut das selbe aber doch wieder nicht.
    Ich hab da leider überhaupt keinen Durchblick.
    MFG
