Body Recovery

- NOTE: Due to its graphic nature, there is NO visible shot taken of the victim out of respect for the family and loved ones of the deceased. This is a glimpse of the challenges the Philippine Coast Guard, NAVY and Volunteer technical divers faced in order to extract a victim from deep inside the M/V "Thomas Aquinas" wreck.
That moment where the one diver starts to get tangled made my heart race. This was an incredible operation. Well done.
Very scary and hard to watch. So much debris they could be tangled in had me on edge the entire video. These people are brave and very good at what they do.
I was more nervous of the divers getting tangled in the debris than encountering a victim for recovery.
Quadruple thumbs up in honorable appreciation in your efforts to bring closure to the surviving families.
Respect for these men. They are the astronauts of hell.
in the future we would be recovering bodies in space

As spaceflight becomes more common, perhaps even private spacecrafts someday becoming a thing FAR in the future, yeah, body recovery may be necessary. I mean, Hell, I hope it never bloody happens, but there's probably people on the International Space Station RIGHT NOW. If space debris or a rock or something of sufficient size/weight/velocity were to strike, it could lead to deaths. Then a team would have to head up there to recover the bodies. If a body or two actually LEFT the space station in the process, I imagine somehow those bodies would be tracked from Earth with dedicated missions made to recover them.
And an accident like that could happen tomorrow, or even today. While doing some random reading-up this morning about space debris I learned that in the 1990s a woman in Oklahoma was struck by fabric space debris which didn't injure her, then a 6 year old in China earlier this century was the first to actually be directly injured by space debris (including a crushed toe), and there's another incident where some livestock was injured/killed because of space debris. So yeah, there's a lot of junk up there, and some of it may be moving at speed. Ideally, hopefully, just as nobody has died in space for more than 50 years now (only 3 people total have died in space), hopefully nobody ever will again. But if spaceflight becomes more common... how can it not be an inevitability? The respectful thing, if at all possible, is to retrieve bodies.
David Shaw, a HIGHLY experienced and professional diver, died trying to retrieve an old body deep within a cave that had been there so long that allegedly the exposed head and hands had both skeletonized however the goggles eerily remained properly on the skull.
People will go at great lengths to retrieve the fallen, and good for them for doing so.
this is a horrible situation, its amazingly stunning that there are people willing to make this effort simply because the victims did not belong there, they absolutely deserved to be found & given back to their families, can't imagine how much more peaceful one could feel thinking their loved ones may be lost forever & then you have guys like this that say, "ill find them & ill bring him back to you"!!! talk about heroes, these precious ppl are definitely heroes 💘 ❤ 💙
All great heroes!
Alex, Jun, and Mario (r.i.p, Mario Cabello)-- years after this tragic recovery, I salute you guys for your courage, respect and fortitude. I pray you have recovered from this nightmare of necessity, and that the families of the victims have found some peace and closure.
"May all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace." Amen.
Amen to all of that!
Crazy. Risking your life to recover already dead people. Much respect to all involved in the effort!

Gawd, all I see is entanglement, entrapment, panic and an out of air scenario with a fatal outcome for one or more divers.
This is all for the retrieval of bodies which will bring great comfort to the families but let's not lose anyone else in the process.
Take care and come back alive!
My hats off to these divers! I've helped embalm people, but my worst fear is drowning. I used to love swimming, but now I freak out just thinking about being under water.

These men are real heroes, bringing back the victims to their families.
✊🏻🇸🇪
✊🏻🇸🇪
I have seen the complete footage, and that body had become extremely buoyant due to decomposition.
It was hellishly difficult to even move the body to where it could be moved to outside of the hull.
Once the tethering line securing the body to the wreck was cut, the body rocketed towards the surface, unaided by any lift bags.
I do not believe that it can be possible to do this horrendous task without it having lasting psychological effects on the men that do it.
I am concerned for their health and wellbeing long after the task has ended.
There can be fewer more horrific things to have to do, in such a deadly and nightmarish environment than this, particularly when decomposition or injuries have taken a toll on the victims.
I personally do not believe that I could deal with the psychological effects of such tasks, and admire and respect those that can.
You’re weird
where'd you see it?
@@Mo.1988 Why are they weird? They described it exactly the way it happened. I too saw the video. It was on the right side where all the videos you can watch. May they all rest with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

I've heard that "Wreck Diving" kills a lot of amateur divers. Obviously, these people are not amateurs.
So scary. So much respect for these heroes!
When divers go and retrieve bodies that are decaying they can smell/taste the decay through their respirator apparently. What crazy shit.
Yes, there is a faint but distinct smell. That's how some of my team mates were able to locate certain remains that were covered by floating debris.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_St._Thomas_Aquinas
Christina watch his link. A freighter ship hit the ferry mid ship. The ferry sunk right away and the freighter backed up. It's whole bow was damaged but it didn't sink. Very sad accident!
😭😪🙏🎗 "Rest In Peace angels"
The idea of bringing a body out of the ship and holding onto it, as the decomposed condition makes some one float upwards, the way the divers let it go,and up it goes to the surface,
God bless you all.Amen
So scary floating pieces of human skin too inside of the incident underwater, this is not an easy mission going under 100 ft. but still they manage it just to do their job no matter how dangerous it is!!
where???????

Why did it take so long for anyone to go and get them?
The recovery mission started 24 hours after the sinking.
@@FilipinoCaveDiver wasn't this almost a month after it sank? Is the "in search of souls" video the same date as this one? Do you have anymore? Of the recovery right after the accident? Thank you so much for what you do. I can't imagine if my childs body was trapped underwater, I would be haunted by the thought of them down there in that dark murky water. It would just break me even worse. You are good people. The families getting the bodies back to bury and have closur, by that is invaluable. ❤️❤️❤️
Dive belts, would be the best thing for this. I don't understand why they are fighting the float, when they can weigh it down. I not hating on them, they are doing what 99 percent of people can't do. They are just having to work real hard (harder then they should) to get it done.
It is not visible on this clip, but we are making use of weights & belts to counter the buoyant characteristic of some of the bodies.
Awake not woke there's lots of gasses in decomposing bodies. In that area where the body was pretty hard to use weights and belts. The divers had to have good buoyancy at that depth.
Is this mv princess?

Yikes
So how exactly do you clear your face mask that far down if you barf when it becomes too graphic. I'm betting this has happened to even the most skilled of divers seeing things they'd never seen before or never imagined the human body's final state could exist in the condition before them. I'm glad others are prepared to do these services,, not a chance for me,, I'd be the one ending up having to be rescued. I've no stomach for human suffering up close & personal..

What’s the point of this video?
Its a dirty hard job. But rewards on families what recovery their deaths
They obviously died by getting trapped in all the wires and trash
They died from drowning when the ship tilted and then sank. Most of the victims we recovered were wearing lifejackets which, due to its buoyant characteristic, made the victims float up to the ceiling/walls where they got stuck, preventing them to swim out to the open water.
