The first distortion pedal I bought almost 20 years ago, sold it a couple of months later, as it was not "heavy enough" back then. Got a new one recently, using a Fender Tele and a Marshall to make it sing, and I couldn't be happier with the tone. Amazing pedal, has a timeless tone character that is part of the music history, and it's always going to be there on many pedalboards for generations to come. Long live the DS-1!
@@stoppilfering268 Boss Metal Zone doesn’t suck I had the Waza Craft (version) It was ok but it works better if u have it plugged into the send/return effects loops 🔁 in the back of the head tube amplifiers over all it’s heavy but it’s kind of tricky to use 😅 Boss Metal Core sounds just fine the way it is once it’s plugged into the amp everything is at 12 o’ clock 😎
@@stoppilfering268 I didn’t have the patients to work Metal Zone by the time I did it was too late I found an easier solution to get the sound I needed with out all the hassle 😌
No problem man. I got mine used for about $30 last week and it sounds great. I played it through a 6" speaker. I can't imagine what it'll be like through a 2x12!
Just got one today for $20. Needed a little xtra bite on the cheap-cheap! I picked up a joyo (boutique killer) equivalent to an ocd and its my main overdrive pedal. It is stellar!
I played a 2000 Mexican made Fender Strat through one of these. You could either go really heavy or get a nice cleanish distortion tone with single coils.
If your using single coils with this pedal you are gonna have a hard time getting a warm tome regardless wether you are using a tube or solid state amp. That's not because the pedal is bad, it's because the coils have a naturally bright single. Since this is a very bright terribly sounding pedal I feel it goes best with humbucking pickups, or any pickups that reduce noise in general.
at the minute 0:400:420:45 please what is that first chord? is that a double-stop on 2nd and 3rd strings only or is a trichord on first three strings? I do not figure out if you hitting any note on the 1st string too, or not. Or maybe did you hitting just the first two string? Thanks. Cool riff btw.
i would really recomend another pedal as the ds-1 can be a little thin sometimes, if youre gonna go with a boss pedal i think the md-2 is good, but stay clear of the metal zone
If you're going for their distortion tone, your best bet is to get a good amp. Most distortion pedals like the metalzone or deathmetal type pedals sound horrible.
Fizzy and not in a great way. Not a fuzz not a distortion what is it.... that sound when you find an empty tv channel lol. Try a mi audio crunch box or (clone of) joyo crunch distortion now thats what im talking about. ;)

This is the most loved and hated distortion pedal ever. Personally, I like it very much.
Metal Zone (Hate)
DS-1 (Neutral)
Metal Core (Love)
@@JeremiahDaniel1995 what’s wrong with metal zone?

Joyo puts out quality pedals. I have the TS9 copy.

Can't wait to get this baby by Monday! Then buy myself a bottle of whiskey or rum and jam out to a plethora of Nirvana songs!
How did Nirvana sound on this pedal...im thinking this should be my first pedal?
@@jerryneace2940 4 years late but nirvana sounds great on ds-1.
Great playing!
i dont have this pedal but the boss ns-2 works great for me when i comes to eliminate noise hum and buzz.
Boss the best of the world 😎

This ds-1 in the video doesn't sound so good. mine sounds better.
nice!
Seems to be a pedal for more blues or blues rock players

Combind this with boss overdrive and you will never change your sound again.
can i use this for GnR's songs?
if you're not the kind of person who wants to mimic slash's tone exactly, then this pedal would do decently for GnR.
For me the tone of this pedal depends very much on which amp it's being put through. Solid state and it sounds awful. Tube amp and it sounds great.
I think it sounds great thru both.
I wonder what he's using to kill the extra buzzing noise that comes from this pedal??!!
Any ideas?
so whats ur saying its bad for single coils?
Can i use this for heavy metal(Metallica,Megadeth,Iced Earth)?
i would really recomend another pedal as the ds-1 can be a little thin sometimes, if youre gonna go with a boss pedal i think the md-2 is good, but stay clear of the metal zone
Maybe you could, with some good EQing, maybe
Then i would tell u to get boss mt-2 metal zone
what is this song's name?
what's a good pedal to get a7x sound besides the super overdrive I already got that
+avenged7x733 try the Dark Matter by TC Electronics

U just need to place the ds-1 before the amp using send/return to sound much better...
RUBISH!
can we use it for bass
Andspen Boyy yes. Probably best if used as a boost

Wow..bet the Milk Man was getting alotta action back then??Lol!!
Naturally bright tone*
It would sound like shit if u dont know how to use it. Just put an Equalizer or a noise reducer and it works fine.

Or maybe pairing that pedal with a booster/tube screamer/overdrive would do the trick
jcows12 Sick idiot, if you can't even make a DS-1 sound good it means you're total shit.
why did it sound like shit although this pedal don't suck.

It doesnt sound as good with Gibson as it does with Fender tbh.
More on a pickup than the guitar or woods tho. Gibson and Fender both have different pickups.
Sweet no I can just turn my amp on with out changing to the distortion Channel
this pedal sucks I smashed it with a sludge hammer
