@@MentalOutlvl6 In Gens 1 and 2, IVs range from 0 to 15 and used to be called DVs back then. EVs range from 0 to 65535 and used to be called Stat Experience. Instead of earning 1-2 EVs by defeating wild Pokémon, you would earn an amount equal to its base stats that would be added to your stat exp. Meaning that a Pidgey would give out 40/45/40/35/56 stat experience for each corresponding stat.
I remember when I was a kid, using only two rentals to defeat him: Aerodactyl and Wobbuffet. Aerodactyl wrecks Ho-oh with rock slide. Wobbuffet destroys Mewtwo with mirror coat, and then takes down Lugia with destiny bond. It did not always work though. Somebody should try this and record it.

It wasn't "fixed", there was nothing needing a fix, it was just changed, they made a complete overhaul of how stats work in gen 3 actually, but nothing was "fixed".
Back when Pokémon came out, everyone named their player character either "ASH" or their name, mainly "ASH" due to the anime coming out before the games in America. I was one of the kids who went with Ash, and I still have those save files from back then, which I am using here. People should know that the player's true name is Red because of GSC.
Not surprising at all. Ho-Oh is 4x weak to rock which means rock slide's power multiplies by 4. And since it was a Critical hit than it does 2x more so it did 8x damage. Rock Slides Power times 8 = Six Hundred Base Power And then adding up Dugtrio's attack subtracting to Ho-Oh's defense then take that number minus or add the base power which is six hundred. Ho-Oh does not have good defense so it wouldn't have been much of a difference if Ho-Oh had a better physical defense than Dugtrio's physical attack. Yes I have an A at Math
@@LatiosUltima Just saw this comment after a few years. According to Smogon's Damage Calculator, it would have been a 2HKO. However, Ho-Oh only went first due to Quick Claw. Next turn, Dugtrio would have likely gone first (due to Quick Claw only having a 23% chance to activate) and won the battle anyway.
I figured as much. considering dugtrio doesn't have the best attack stat. so the critical hit mattered in OHKOing Ho-oh because if I recall, Silver's Ho-oh in R2 has giga drain so if you didn't get the critical hit, I would imagine ho-oh would've OHKOd dugtrio with giga drain.
Rock slide is super effective I believe 4xweakness plus it was a critical hit it wasn't it would not have taken out ho ho if it was a physic pokemon ho ho would win or another fighter legendary or not maybe except from groundon is rock slide hits even harder than rhydon and golem

If you use 10 vitamins on every stat, the Pokemon can get 25600, as long as they started with 0 stat exp. And yeah, the box trick would work for Pokemon at a lower level, but it would be less noticeable compared to when they are 100. It takes a long time to fully max out several Pokemon though, so the best place is the E4 with Dodrio GB Tower.
With rentals go Wobbufett, Aerodactyl and Umbreon. Wobbufett is the overpowered gimmick Pokémon, Umbreon has good bulk against Lugia and Mewtwo and can sand attack, and Aerodactyl is the speedy heavy hitter against Ho-oh and is good against Lugia.

Ash is based on Red, just like how Gary is based on Blue (or Green by Japanese terms). The reason all of us calls him Ash is because we watched the anime before playing the games. In every sequel to Red, Blue and Yellow, (they are Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver), he is called Red. Not Blue, and not Ash.
You can do that with a tyranitar with rock slide or a pokemon with high ass att with Rick slide probably could do it with ancient power but it's doable or wobbuffet with counter ho-oh goes down in 2 shot

I remember I used to max my Pokemon's stats back in the day by getting the Pokemon involved in a lot of battles, depositing them in the PC, then their stats go up for some reason. Is that how you max out your Pokemon's stats? I did all that when they were LV 100, but would that same idea work on lower level Pokemon? I'm about to get back into this game, so any ideas can help. In this game, Ted Lewis sounds just like the Japanese announcer. I think Pokemon Stadium Gold and Silver had a different announcer in Japanese compared to the Japanese version of Pokemon Stadium called Pocket Monsters Stadium 2 in Japanese.

I don't get it, I even used my fully trained Lugia and Ho-Oh and still he was stronger, not only that, all of his attack were either critical hits AND landed added effect. It was so unfair. I'm surprised I completed it...after 18 years! Well that time I didn't know how to train my Pokemon well

I've been busting my butt trying to get good DVs but it is taking too long... also, how do you get such good DVs for starters since they start off at level 5? Thank you!
In Round 2, the Rival's Pokemon has max DVs + max stat experience. Fight fire with fire. Or, just train a Snorlax with Belly Drum, Rest, Sleep Talk, and Body Slam. It should be able to sweep.
Blissy wobbuffet and snorlax could tank these guys just watch out with lugia using blissey as it has weak Def and lugias aeroblast will probably kill blissey in 2 shots other than it can take hooh and mewtwo as long as blissey has softboil to recover in between turns to tank the 2 legendaries
Let me be clear. This exact battle with this exact amount of Pokémon would take twice as long with 3 times less animations, worse cinematography and infinite time less excitement

In Gen 2, it was possible to maximize all of a Pokemons stats. That was fixed in Gen 3.

Oh because in Gen 1 - 3 all normal,steel,poison,ghost,rock,ground,bug (may have missed some) moves were physical.
in round 2 they cheat alot in battle AND the AI like switches out when you have a super effective pokemon at them.
I wouldn't call switching out cheating, considering you're allowed to do so whenever you like, it evens out the playing rield in my book.

Man, beating Silver in R-2 is a pain. It's not like in the original Stadium where it was just Mewtwo.
