      In Gens 1 and 2, IVs range from 0 to 15 and used to be called DVs back then.
      EVs range from 0 to 65535 and used to be called Stat Experience. Instead of earning 1-2 EVs by defeating wild Pokémon, you would earn an amount equal to its base stats that would be added to your stat exp. Meaning that a Pidgey would give out 40/45/40/35/56 stat experience for each corresponding stat.

    • @papij8834
      @papij8834 9 лет назад +14

      Not surprising at all. Ho-Oh is 4x weak to rock which means rock slide's power multiplies by 4. And since it was a Critical hit than it does 2x more so it did 8x damage.
      Rock Slides Power times 8 = Six Hundred Base Power
      And then adding up Dugtrio's attack subtracting to Ho-Oh's defense then take that number minus or add the base power which is six hundred.
      Ho-Oh does not have good defense so it wouldn't have been much of a difference if Ho-Oh had a better physical defense than Dugtrio's physical attack.
      Yes I have an A at Math

    • @LatiosUltima
      @LatiosUltima 9 лет назад +2

      Frigid Gaming true but regardless of it not being a critical hit, it would've still been a OHKO. the crit was just a cherry on top lol

    • @ShadowMario3
      @ShadowMario3  5 лет назад

      @@LatiosUltima Just saw this comment after a few years. According to Smogon's Damage Calculator, it would have been a 2HKO. However, Ho-Oh only went first due to Quick Claw. Next turn, Dugtrio would have likely gone first (due to Quick Claw only having a 23% chance to activate) and won the battle anyway.

    • @LatiosUltima
      @LatiosUltima 5 лет назад

      I figured as much. considering dugtrio doesn't have the best attack stat. so the critical hit mattered in OHKOing Ho-oh because if I recall, Silver's Ho-oh in R2 has giga drain so if you didn't get the critical hit, I would imagine ho-oh would've OHKOd dugtrio with giga drain.

    Pretty much. In Gens I and II, EVs are called Stat Exp., you gain them by the 100s or something, maxing out at 65535 for EVERY stat. If you use 10 vitamins on every stat, the Pokemon can get 25600, as long as they started with 0 stat exp. And yeah, the box trick would work for Pokemon at a lower level, but it would be less noticeable compared to when they are 100.
    It takes a long time to fully max out several Pokemon though, so the best place is the E4 with Dodrio GB Tower.

    No. In Red, he's Red. He's called Blue because of the game, and in Yellow, he's Ash because that game is based on the anime. Ash is based on Red, just like how Gary is based on Blue (or Green by Japanese terms).
    The reason all of us calls him Ash is because we watched the anime before playing the games.
    In every sequel to Red, Blue and Yellow, (they are Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver), he is called Red. Not Blue, and not Ash.

    How does a Dugtrio win against a Ho-oh? Amazing!

    • @henrycalde1991
      @henrycalde1991 2 года назад

      Dugtrio has decent attack, and Rock Slide is 4x super effective against Ho-oh, and since it was a critical hit it essentially did 8x the damage. No way Ho-oh would have survived even if it wasnt a critical hit

    Wow similar formula like round 1... Thunderbolt and explosion... Only this time you didn't start with thunderwave thus you used fire blast and flamethrower with some rockslide

    I don't get it, I even used my fully trained Lugia and Ho-Oh and still he was stronger, not only that, all of his attack were either critical hits AND landed added effect. It was so unfair. I'm surprised I completed it...after 18 years! Well that time I didn't know how to train my Pokemon well

    I know this video is very old and you probably aren't playing this anymore but I gotta ask. Are max DVs necessary to do well in Stadium 1 and 2?
    I've been busting my butt trying to get good DVs but it is taking too long... also, how do you get such good DVs for starters since they start off at level 5?
    Thank you!

      In Round 2, the Rival's Pokemon has max DVs + max stat experience. Fight fire with fire.
      Or, just train a Snorlax with Belly Drum, Rest, Sleep Talk, and Body Slam. It should be able to sweep.

      Blissy wobbuffet and snorlax could tank these guys just watch out with lugia using blissey as it has weak Def and lugias aeroblast will probably kill blissey in 2 shots other than it can take hooh and mewtwo as long as blissey has softboil to recover in between turns to tank the 2 legendaries

    Let me be clear. This exact battle with this exact amount of Pokémon would take twice as long with 3 times less animations, worse cinematography and infinite time less excitement

    I meant the Pokemon Movie reference where Mewtwo said that.

    I liked and hated the game. The only way that I managed to beat the stupid round 2 little cup was taking advantage of the "free continuation" suspend glitch.

    This looks so much like final fantasy 7, like, everything about. All you have to do is replace the character sprites with Lego versions of themselves.
