Ostapenko is a very dangerous player and very intimidating. She may not look thin enough but she can surely move around easily without any trouble all over the court. She has the power to hit the ball in any corner she likes with amazing accuracy. I’ve been watching her play tennis for a while now and her style of play is a little bit unusual but very effective. She made Coco Gauff look like a very slow player and also caught Coco by surprise with her speed and power. Can’t underestimate anyone with such an aggressive approach in her game of tennis.
She didn't make Coco look slow.
She also has impeccable timing..almost always huts the ball out in front..taking away time for the opponent
Coco tried to beat ostapenko at her own game, big mistake. When ostapenko enters in hittin machine mode if not disrupted, you’re done for
@Marcos D.P to beat Ostapenko you need to mix it up with Slices, dropshots, etc. Coco didn't make a single dropshot.
She hits the ball extremely cleanly like Pegula. Basically she is like a Davenport, but even bigger. She’s fat and she’s a bitch, so people generally don’t like her.😊
People love to pick on Ostapenko for not having the same physique as these other women on tour but she's putting the fittest and youngest to sleep. Go Ostapenko! ❤️🎾
Her 25 lb weight gain hasn't affected her power. It seems she's hitting the ball even harder. 90mph winners.
I mean... the bodyfat isn't doing her any favors. She can be a great ball-striker wall also having a vastly suboptimal physique.
I agree everyone has a different body and physique, she is not fat. She has great hand eye coordination, she may not be natural athlete but she is an athlete. She never looks out of breath. People just need to zip it.
@@rajsra3842 let’s not kid ourselves: she is definitely fat, especially for a tennis player. That doesn’t take away from her skill as a tennis player and the power she can generate, but she’s definitely fat. I just hope this doesn’t impact her health too much in the long run
She reminds me of Marion Bartoli
Brilliant ball striking by Ostapenko throughout the match. Gauff simply got outplayed.
Coco not ready for primetime tennis.
@@williamsannuto8239 lol you realize how stupid you sound, she’s number 7 in the world. That’s prime time hater, your #1 fav iga just got her ass tapped by the #22. Talk about that
@@adelopez27 Coco is out of the tournament deal with that son!!!
@@williamsannuto8239 lol she absolutely is! And I love osteopenko, rooting for her or pegula, IGA’s overhyped ass is out too! Deal with it!!

Always say that Ostapenko is such a natural player. Win-or-lose, absolutely fearless. Actually, a refreshing player in a world of robotic responses.
Blah blah Coco won.
@@azieldaly2965 What sense does it make to comment on one video about an entirely different match?
I love how Ostapenko eats pushers alive
Jelena is a colorful character, but her tennis is powerful and precise. Coco's forehand is killing any chances for better results. Jelena just outplayed Coco.
I don't know about her forehand, but I will say that Coco is just not an "intelligent" player. And maybe that's the wrong word to use, but what I mean is that Coco is used to being the power hitter in a match. What we saw here is her trying to go pound-for-pound with someone whose frame and body build is better suited for that style of tennis. Coco was unprepared for this, and she wasn't aware enough to switch her tactics. As soon as she caught wind that she wasn't going to be able to out-hit her, she should have placed her shots better, made Ostapenko run more, and be more strategic in setting up winners. Instead, she tired herself out trying to overpower someone who is more powerful than she.
@@robertreed9818 I agree with this. People have tipped Coco for greatness just because she's so ambitious and a great athlete so they make her success seem like an inevitability, but you need some way to dominate, and Coco can dominate neither the other grinders like Iga nor the true power hitters. I'd be surprised if she wins a Slam while Swiatek, Rybakina, Ostapenko, and Garcia are active. Wanting it but having no distinct, overpowering advantage at the very top is not enough.
@@robertreed9818 Also, Jelena generates power so efficiently, no strain or stress. it's a beautiful sight to behold, truly.
I like Jelena because she didn't come out of a cookie cutter. She's an individual, you couldn't mistake her for anyone else.
@@robertreed9818I’m not sure Coco has the attacking game to win these big tournaments yet against big players. We saw against Emma, she had the defence and physicality but was behind Emma’s game in her attack.
Say what you want but there’s no denying Ostapenko’s ball striking is next level when she is on. I love her and her power. Hopefully she continues to plays consistently.
I will always question Ostapenko's game outfits but I will never question her tennis abilities. Good match.
Powerful Ostapenko! her tennis form is so impeccable.
Power hitting and mental fortitude attribute to Ostapenko's success. She just go for the shot without hesitation and seemingly had the mental understanding of her physical capabilities..Congrats Ostapenko! and great effort Coco..
Reminds me a lot of Seles, Ostapenko, bigger frame, but movement is decent and hits very clean. If she keeps the unforced errors down and her 1st serve percentage up, she has a chance to make a deeper run
EXACTLY! I've gone from hating her pettiness to being a whole Penko stan because Monica is my all time favorite player. She holds the center of the court and dictates, just like Monica used to do ❤️
Sales was not overweight. I watched her live.
@@ileanasantamaria2364 precisely and Monica became more corpulent with age but was still a major force
I'm a new fan of Ostapenko!!!
What a player!!!
the commentators must be devastated by the result
that and Little Foe being beaten.

@@kevinpatrickcarey3741 always.
Jelena had Coco running all over the court and cocos response? Hit the ball right down the middle back to jelena 🤦🏻♂️
Yup. It's like Coco has an attacking mind but defensive playing style. She needs to change something to tame that inner conflict.
@6WireBender Maybe she's being Coached that way
@@jeffreykaufmann2867 I've been saying...in order for coco to reach her full potential she will have to fire her dad and get a real coach..no disrespect intended
Yup, playing against someone that hit harder than you requires change tactics. Perhaps giving jelena some junk balls, deep slices alternating with drop shots. Tire jelena off so she loses some accuracy
Maybe Coco was trying to change directions on the ball, but with Jelena’s fast, flat shots, it’s hard to control
Wow what a player Ostapenko is.
Just love how they put the winner on the cover of each video, despite how much you don’t want to know the results
Is that sarcasm?
Don't get off the Coco train. Ostapenko is one of the greatest big game strikers ever.
STOP PUTTING WINNER IN THUMBNAIL
Ostapenko is looking ominous. She might actually recreate the Grand Slam magic of a few years ago.
You would think that Coco's people would have done a better job of preparing her to face Ostapenko. Coco tried to out hit her but once Ostapenko is set, she has the power to hit anywhere on the court. She needed to giver her some off pace shots, some slices, so slow balls because Ostapenko feasts on pace. She needed to move her around and get her out of the middle of the court. She was camped out in the middle of the court through the entire match.
Exactly what I thought as well. Slow balls and slices. She played right into her game power hitting everywhere.
The main issue with women tennis for over a decade now. Very rare to see female players who like to change the pace, use dropshots, slices or even go to the net.
There is no way Coco will ever be able to outhit Ostapenko. Coco does a lot of things well but does not outshine any of the major players in any one consequential facet of the game
Yes, in theory, but Ostapenko didn't let Coco to set up her game, nor let her to construct those slices. Most shots finished in three or four, not many long rallies, because Ostapenko was able to direct the ball the way she wanted with a high precision and power. When Coco is on, she moves like a little bird flying around the court. In the match, she looked beaten down most of the time. Coco was just outplayed and had no solution to get back to her own game plan.
@@ileanasantamaria2364 Coco needs alot of work to measure up
BRUTALITY!
I have always, always loved Awesomepenko.
Ostapenko = "ball of fire". The most entertaining female player currently.
Final: Sabalenka vs Ostapenko?
That would be GREAT!!!
that would be such a power match !!
ostapenko really shows the state of women’s tennis
@@asdfswer4657 Ostapenko only shows the state of Ostapenko's tennis, nothing else.
Was the "state of women’s tennis" better when one super-athletic woman (Serena) was constantly winning?
Or when No.1s were Wozniacki, Muguruza, Osaka or Kerber, for example?
I found the men's tennis more boring, with those endless exchanges of super fast, pointless shots. Matter of taste.
The Final is really up for grabs, at this point. Aryna might make it there and win it... or she might lose to Belinda today, in a 4th Round match which should be a SF at the earliest; the two of them meeting this early in the tournament is a real travesty. Garcia's also in that half of the draw. I expect it to be one of those three making the Final from that half, but picking WHICH one of them makes it is a total toss-up, at this point.
Also, Jelena's got to get past BOTH Rybakina, and either Vika or Pegula... which is a tall order. It's not 'impossible', but she'll have to play impeccably to have any realistic chance of pulling it off.
Gauff needs to stop yelling, "cmon" after every damn winner. Just shut up, and continue to play. Such a over hyped player.... Congrats Ostapenko
I thought the same thing! Quite annoying😂
oh yah shes notorious for celebrating useless points. She will be down 6-1 and scream Cmon when she wins a point like it means ANYTHING lol

Ostapenko may just be the first player to win a Slam with Type 2 Diabetes. Her game is amazing and I hope she does it!
У нее диабет нового типа - улучшает игру в большой теннис и повышает силу и точность ударов !

Not sure if she was diagnosed with diabetes back then.

She doesn’t have diabetes or at least it’s not publicly known.
@@ginomarone8831 Are you conscious?
Wow. Such power hitting
Ostapenko was a much stronger player today.
Love me some big Osta!!
Love seeing Gauff LOSE!!
Im from USA.. glad Jelena won! - she deserves to win. Much better player.
You know who’s game Ostapenko reminds me of? Davydenko. Tons of powerful angle shots and down the line winners without eve letting up. It really is impressive. Her only weakness is her serve which is why she couldn’t beat Serena, Azarenka, and the like. They feasted on her weak serves. Players who aren’t as good returners will most likely lose to an in form Ostapenko.
Davydenko could run all day long though….Ostapenko is more like Nalbandian. Clean, powerful hitting, but fitness is lacking, and not the best mover.
@@springfield03sniper Nalbandian, surprisingly employed far more variety at an almost Federer like scale. Also, has she not proved her fitness? She moves fine for her game style and clearly it works for her. I remember people saying similar things about Bartolo and she was fine. Perhaps we need to rethink what fitness looks like and instead focus on what fitness actually is.
@@willybeama1 Amen to this!! The superficiality of our era makes people jump to criticize players who have gotten heavier, even if their game is as effective as Penko's and firing on all cylinders. She's been thinner, she's now heavier, but she can bludgeon the ball like very few others. Reminds me of my all time fave Seles, so I now overlook her pettiness and delight in her ground game!

So glad this match-up is done and over! I've had it with all the publicity surrounding Coco and the WTA propping her up as the next best thing in tennis the last couple of years. All Coco's matches are shown on TV to the exclusion of others. I have nothing against Coco - she seems like a nice sort - but I've had it with the over saturation of news relating to Coco. Now, we can peacefully watch the other women play in the Australian Open!
She does everything well but no one element of her game, apart from her fitness and hunger to excel, is truly exceptional!
Nothing against her. I like how she handles her interviews and her responses are always respectful of her opponents. I'm just tired of all the hype the WTA has built around her. All this attention given to her matches puts a lot of pressure on her and doesn't help her in the long run!
Well serena is gone, who else is mainstream media going to back?😂

Ostapenko ❤️🔥🏆
Who knew Gauff could be overpowered? Jelena Ostapenko that's who. Coco could not muster a response to the blitzkrieg of deep hard groundstrokes flying off of Ostapenko's racquet and her serve let her down bigly in this match making it easier for Ostapenko to tee off on her second serves. Coco's forehand continues to be a weakness and she's not able to flatten it out and really crack it when she's in position. Ostapenko was clearly directing most of her serves and groundies to that side of the court and it paid off with a straight set dismissal. Coco is lacking a weapon in her game and athleticism and speed will only take you so far in today's game.
Absolutely. EVERYONE has speed. It takes something more.
yah its not track and field
Ostapenko a beast!! What is she eating?! She outplayed Coco!! Like her aggressive play!!

Ostapenko, good job, tennis channel/espn is now scrambling to figure out who to talk about
4th round and up. This is when it starts getting even more competitive
Ostspenko hits it hard.
Coco is Wozniacki: Defence, defense, defense 😳.
She may be in the top 10 for a while but, grand slam contender?
Congratulations 👏 Jelena!
Loosing your father in 2019, at such a young age has taken a toll 😢 on you.
But hold your head up and keep going 💪
its a miracle i still have NO CLUE how she cracked the top 10
Coconut got cracked 🤣
I say physical fitness and diet control is overated . . . hahaha she's as good as ever
Ostapenko's vocalizations are simply hilarious!
Who cares. She outplaced the Americain....very weak performance of Coco..
This woman just beat the #7 ranked player and you are talking about her weight? Who raised you?
still have no clue how Puffs got to 7 after getting drummed outta this will it lower rank?
wow ..Ostapenko was crushing the ball ...poor Coco ... I was rooting for her but she was no match for Ostapenko's power
rooting for Coco Puffs must get tiring
Spoiler alert! Always spoil the outcome with the winner on the thumbnail, more mystery and I bet more views if both players are on the thumbnail.
The late 2010s produced so many topspin hitting players that I think many just defaulted to hitting that way. Coco is young enough that she can spend a year changing her grip, take the ranking dip, and come back more powerful than ever.
That forehand wind-up is killing her Grand Slam potential!
She’s not gonna change her grip; a pro has hit millions of balls playing a certain way at the point they are ready the compete; thats why erani never changed her serve for instance; its so deep in the muscle memory. The most you will see is then changing their rcket. They will rarely take the risk and change any technique. Besides, we ignore alot of the pros her topspin forehand has given her; taking that away to fix one con will mean she also loses some of the pros of it.
@@ajollypanda4175 She’s surely not going to, but it’s actually something pros do all the time. The serve is a way more important shot than even the forehand because it starts the point and many pros have totally changed their serve motion and sometimes grip placement to improve that shot for power or injury reasons.
She’s still young enough to develop new muscle memory and it’s so unnatural that you can tell she thinks more than she reacts because she can’t just react with a swing and grip like that.
It’s up to her. She’s lucky it wasn’t Garcia or somebody like that, it could have been 0,0. Smh
If someone in need to change a forehand swing is tiafoe that forehand is uglier than sharkeisha from norbit. How does he even have a wrist left ?
I have to agree with Neeka Bubbles, about the Coco Gauff extreme grip. Outside of French Open I just don’t see Coco winning any other slams with that grip. She is just not going to beat the big power hitters with top spin lobs from her forehand..she needs to flatten out that forehand and gets some more pave on the ball to hit winners. Very disappointing result for Coco!
Ostapenko has huge power off the ground. She's not built like a typical female tennis player but neither is Ons Jabeur.
Gauff has settled in as a good workout for the top players.
lol yes! she wins some basement tournament against some of the lowest ranked players and evryone has her winning them all this year HAHAHHAH LOL LOL talk about losing perspective hahah
we know who the boss was on this court hahahahahaha Coco frozen by the power!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go Jelena! Keep on winning!
Osta is bouncing on the court. I love the energy she is showing on the court.
Experience matters.
I guess Ostapenko decided to pull out her good tennis today and help people remember she's done this before. I hope Coco can make a good run on the clay
Really wanted to see Gauff Swiatek battle it out. Not what I expected.
Yeah and they both got knocked out too it seems. Iga is not as dominant as she was last year. Pegula, however, seems to be on the rise, calmly and quietly
Swiatek has Gauff's number! These upsets make it more interesting now!
They will have battles in the future. But maybe Rybakina's win over Iga shouldn't have been a huge surprise. Rybakina would have been a top 8 seed if she'd received Wimbledon points.
Swiatek absolutely owns Gauff, they’ve played 5 times and Gauff has only got more than 3 games in 1 set
@@moonballpusher6560
who in the hell is this Ostapenko? girl looks like a tank but moves around like a Porsche. and got the power to back it up. she'll be a major threat in the future.
I love Ostapenko!!! Go girl !!!
Ostapenko is such an inspiration. I feel like I can eat 4 pizzas a week and still play great tennis.
She is out! 😊
Ostapenko creating ridiculous angles. I’m rooting for her against Rybakena but Rybakena demolished Swiatek and she has that spin heavy shots that troubled Swiatek so it will be interesting against Ostapenko
I haven't liked Coco since she said she wants to win "as many slams as possible" as if her winning them was a given. I like it when she loses.
yah the more the media tries to make her into the phenom she isnt the more satisfying watching her get drummed out and hopefully in no doubt fashion
So a good double player like Coco didn’t think about making slices and dropshots for a powerful and slow player like Penko? So, the spectators can see that and her coach can’t? I hope Penko win this tournament.
Gee you think Fraudd errrr I meant Gauff would have figured out her opponent is going for flat out winners after like the 50th blistering passing shot went whizzing by her
When Jelena Is in the right day She Is a GrandSlam-champion level player
Coco is so much more confident in her abilities today than she was here. So much growth is amazing to see!
Jelana has the best groundstrokes in the women's game. Powerful ball striker... fun to watch her hit the ball.
I said COCA gets a real pro and barely can hang...She can't really play against the lions..Only the qualifiers that really can't play pro tennis
yah she should stick to WTA 250 level scrub tournaments against 100s in the world
Coco needed to serve way better and mix it up to make Penks run and get her away from her preferred strike zone otherwise its curtains for Coco -puffs groundstrokes
Ostapenko reminds me of boxer Butterbean, esp with this outfit color. Love Butterbean, and also Ostapenko and wish she would go all that way!
Wow! That chunky gal can hit monster shots!
The only reason Ostapenko won is because she was able to get her weight into her shots, LOL!!! But seriously, few gals have such a big, put away weapon off both wings, forehand and backhand. Reminds me of Davenport.
she has put on some weight.
Ostapenko stay great and powerful
I don't know why Coco didn't come to the net more. She can't go toe to toe with the power hitters on their good days! She has got to start using the full arsenal she is capable of using instead of hitting right back to the opponent and defending
It's called being 18 and still learning when and how to adjust your game. That's largely on the coach(es).
Hard to come to net with Ostapenko blasting balls but I do agree she could’ve used other tactics.
her coach knows nothing about net tactics.
@@kevinlakeman5043 her we go with the age excuses LOL god I cant wait till shes 19 and 20 so they freaking STOPPPPP.
yah she constantly runs back and forth at the baseline like a hockey goalie
5:14 that reactions shows she was done then hahah
I feel like Coco’s forehand grip hinders her a bit, just doesn’t allow her to hit through the court as well.
Gauff is a bad match-up for Ostapenko. Gauff's groundstrokes sit up too high. Giving Ostapenko plenty of time to pounce from both wings. Gauff made the huge mistake of not using drop shots. And bringing Ostapenko forward.
That's what being beaten by a better player looks like. But she doesn't fit the what the sportscaster's want.
She reminds me of Davenport!
Coco has to learn to make slower heavy set opponents like Ostapenko run more by hitting
shorter shots and making her run forwards towards the net and not only side to side.
Exactly, Azarenka use to make Ostapenko WORK. Ostapenko can move and she sure as heck can hit so it is easier said than done. She can be broken down by true variety and make sure you whollop her serves.
@@willybeama1 Aga Radwanska pissed her off - she actually told her coach on a court side visit that Aga "wasn't a real player" because she gave her no pace and threw all the junk at her 😂

Gauff reached #1 in the world for doubles and has a WTA singles record of 124-62, so about 2 wins for every loss.
Also for Gauff, about whom so many pundits continue to voice an absurd "win a few Slams" phrase:
- 14 Main Draw Slam singles appearances, in which she's made it past the QF's just ONE time, only to get destroyed in the RG Final last year, winning a mere 4 games;
- Not only ZERO titles for WTA 1000 tournaments... she's never even made it TO a Final in one.
- Not only ZERO titles for WTA 500 tournaments... she's never even made it TO a Final in one of those, either.
- What happens when she has to play against others ranked in the Top 10? The WTA Finals, just this last November - she went 0-3 in the round robin stage, couldn't even win a single set, and had what was by far the lowest percentage of games won in her group.
"...win a few Slams..." *Laugh*
@@nunnayahbiznezz8071 She's reached 11th in the world at 18 years old and has a 32-14 (70%) record in grand slams. She is 18 and if she stays with it, I think she'll win at least one major.
There have been many heralded young players over the years who've burst upon the scene who came nowhere close to even sniffing a GS Singles title, though. She MIGHT gain one herself at some point in her future, yes - it's within the realm of possibility... but I (and many others more) am tired of the perpetual hype that's showered upon someone who still has yet to even reach a SF of a 500 or 1000 event, let alone win one. 💞🦾👍WAY TO GO COCO
Love Ostapenko. While her opponent is sipping an energy drink, she’s having a Cornish pastie and a pint. Girl after my own heart.
Why does she sounds like she’s sneezing? 😂
Most hyped up player i've seen in nearly 40 years of watching tennis (I'm 46). She & her family perpetuated the hype of her being the "next Serena" with Coco saying she wanted more grand slams than Serena. She's been a complete flop at nearly 19 she can't beat top 20s in a weak era. A glorified basketball player (with the shoes to match) who has little chance at a single grand slam.
She is a skillful player for her age, not near the Williams but close. I watched this game and she lost because of her weak game plan. Ostapenko playstyle is sluggish; however, Coco, was passive and mediocre at best, she could have easily made her run more, yet decided to push the ball to middle on every return... Look at 01:49, this happened in every rally but just on some occasions, like this one, she decided to go inside. She got the athleticism but lacked an efficient tactic and mental awareness of how to counter a heavy hitter.
She still has had a solid career. If she doesn't win a grand slam, who cares. Doesn't mean she is a bad player. Plus she is set financially making at least a solid million each year or more in prize money and about 8-10 million a year endorsements. I am happy for her.
@@cuentaacademica3613 Her unreliable first serve and her weak forehand had quite a bit to do with this loss, as they have from the beginning of her pro career. She's hamstrung by the amateur coaching she'd had from her father. A real coach would have fixed these problems.
When did they say they wanted her to be the next Serena?
Why a weak era...? The results are unpredictable because so many players are actually good not bad. There is no one player dominance, and it's fantastic for the fans. Another thing is the pressure that is unnecessarily created in the medias. That's why sports psychologists are so needed in a team at the moment more than ever. I definitely think it is a great time for tennis.
