Having graduated art school, hearing Shea reference Van Gogh’s brushstrokes as a detail to improve Baga’s makes me sooooo ecstatic. These queens KNOW their stuff!
Mo Heart was recreating the woman that appears in a painting from Salvador Dali that’s called “mujer con una cabeza de rosas” literally means women with a head of flowers. She was recreating a painting that features that woman, and I think people thought it was an homage of Dali’s style.
If you look at the painting next to this look it hits very little of the details. It has a much grungier feel and less fairytale fantasy like this look. I get taking liberties and making it your own but it missed too much for me. The color, the vibe, all off.
So I googled it and I can see the reference - but the interpretation still doesn't look great. It's like she took pieces and copied them and in the process lost the entire feeling of the reference figure.
Notice that the hands at the waist and the wrist, even though black instead of white, are drawn from the Dali work, as is the brown boot which references the leathery clawed left foot in the painting.
she was going for that, but it doesn't read as that at all in my opinion. not the colour of the garment, not the shape of the headpiece or the choice of flowers, not the bizarre heart. it's an interesting look, but the reference is a complete miss for me because it's totally unrecognisable. a bit like how juju's look had next to no iris van herpen inspiration at all.
They have a personal taste, of course, but give actual critics. Is not just "I don't like it" They talk fit, fabric, styling, and everything else. LOVE
Oh, exactly! They are both hundred times better than Raja's and Raven's too-cool-for-school pseudo "expertise", ignorance when it came to references and down right laziness that we had to put up with for years and years. It is so refreshing to hear somebody actually educated on the matters of art and fashion to talk about these runways like Shea, The Miss Sophistication and Class herself.
I love how the first thing Shea said was Schiaparelli, and both Pangina and Jimbo had stunning Schiaparelli inspired looks for this runway. Mo was the best on the runway, and her makeup reveal was Perfect. I liked Blu, but as Graham also said, it gave more Mondrian than Picasso.
I actually think the black strokes in Janey's look are better than the black felt idea. since Warhol's lines were not as bold as Lichtenstein's... and Janey was specifically referencing Andy.
If she was doing Andy I don’t think she should have done those strokes on her cheeks and neck and the tears she painted on too. Since those are very clear staples of Lichtenstein. Although the eyeshadow is obvi Warhol
This is where I disagree with Shea as well. The Janey's rendition of this Warhol art piece was spot on and perfect for me. I also didn't understand what did Shea mean by mixing Lichtenstein type of design into Janey's make up. That would've been a complete nonsense mixing those two different artists and their styles together in one look. 🤦

Salvador Dali’s 1936 painting “ Three women with heads of flowers finding the skin of a grand piano on the beach” is one my favorite paintings EVER. All Mo had to do was make the bottom nude gauzy dress and about the voluptuous female body, but I immediately got the reference 👏👏👏
I really hope we get these two together for another season. The depth of knowledge and the references are nice to hear when they're evaluating these looks.

It’s the party city quinciñera Halloween version of the painting. Why bright lavender? Why so much stoning ? She should have just worn an elegant lavender gown with a huge lobster painted on it and a lobster hat, both Schiaparelli and Dali. Very easy.

I loved Mo's. I believe it's based off of Dali's "Woman With a Head of Roses". She's used a lighter colour palette that's more her own but Dali did do a few paintings of women with flowers sprouting as the heads.
I think the execution wasn’t t there. It would’ve been nice if the shoe/boot was thigh high, the fabric was heavier/as if it was wet and clinging to the body, if the flowers were a bit larger and sculptural than just standard artificial flowers, and if the hand details were clearer. I guess that’s just me when looking at the reference and comparing it to the runway.

Blu’s look gives much more pop art than picasso. The colors are so saturated and the shapes are so sharp
it really gives me Piet Mondriaan! he painted very sharp cubes in primary colors with very sharp black lines
