Judas Priest - Painkiller
[Lyrics]
Faster than a bullet
Terrifying scream
Enraged and full of anger
He's half man and half machine
Rides the Metal Monster
Breathing smoke and fire
Closing in with vengeance soaring high
He is the Painkiller
This is the Painkiller
Planets devastated
Mankind's on its knees
A saviour comes from out the skies
In answer to their pleas
Through boiling clouds of thunder
Blasting bolts of steel
Evils going under deadly wheels
He is the Painkiller
This is the Painkiller
Faster than a lazer bullet
Louder than an atom bomb
Chromium plated boiling metal
Brighter than a thousand suns
Flying high on rapture
Stronger free and brave
Nevermore encaptured
They've been brought back from the grave
With mankind ressurrected
Forever to survive
Returns from Armageddon to the skies
He is the Painkiller
This is the Painkiller
Wings of steel Painkiller
Deadly wheels Painkiller
He is the painkiller
This is the painkiller (2x)
Pain
Pain
Killer
Killer (2x)
Can't stop the Painkiller
Pain

• Ian Hill - Bass

Priest's heaviest, most brutal and best song.
Try the jagulator album. That was one of the two Priest albums without Rob. Tim Owens was the singer for that album along
the Demolition album which was his final album with the band before Rob returned in 2003.
Maybe not the heaviest, but definitelly the fastest
@@pocoloco753 Ram it down is the fastest.
Other songs on painkiller, and jugulator can even get into thrash metal territory and painkiller has some speed metal songs including this one
@@pocoloco753 Painkiller is rather slow compared to tracks like Metal Meltdown,Jugulator,All Guns Blazing,Leather Rebel,Dead Meat,Ram it Down,Death Row
That drummer's a legend.
Yup Scott Travis was a Damn Monster easily in the Top 10 Greatest Metal Drummers of All Time along with the other greats
Remember kids, this album came out just weeks after the band was in the trial of their lives for the ridiculous accusation of having one of their songs be the cause of 2 teens suicides. They were rightfully acquitted & this masterpiece dropped on us. ALL killer, NO filler album. What a response!
The PAINKILLER doesn't cause suicides, he kills all his victims himself.
Painkiller was written before that, but because of the legal trouble they held on to it until the trial was over
Rusty Kuntz am surprised suicidal tendencies suicidal failure (1983) didn't cause anyone to attempt to commit suicide although I could be wrong
Don't forget about Metallica's Fade to Black
Seriously such a beautiful and purely metal FUCK YOU that move was.
I was a huge Iron Maiden fan growing up and never got into Judas Priest because I thought of them as competition. Having grown up and matured I can now say without a shadow of a doubt that this might be the greatest heavy metal song ever written.
"One can have more than just one favourite". :)
Everyone who's mature considers Judas Priest to be better than Iron Maiden.
Yes, it is hands down the best Heavy Metal song ever!
@@FearsomeVoid Holy shit, I just looked it up and Iron Maiden has sold 130 million albums, 5 million more than Metallica.
But Priest has sold 50 million, beating Megadeth (38 mil) and Slayer (20 mil).
And here's the really baffling part: how has Motorhead sold only 708,000 albums worldwide? Every metalhead knows them!
used to listen to painkiller on a walkman just before a rugbygame in the tight 5. if that plays in your head, you dont feel pain. the other team does.
Now this is good metal. It’s hard as hell, quite complex, and you can actually hear the separate instruments as well as discern the vocals.
Yup. This is pure heavy metal
🤘
not really bass.
Must agree, not enough bass, but still, an amazing show of vocal and instrumental mastery.
Only when you wear headphones. Or have a Dolby Speaker in your phone.
@ChronoWind qq
What makes this song great is that Scott Travis really gave Priest a kick in the ass. He's a great drummer.
Absolutely true. The main reason why I love this this song so much is because of the awesome drums.
drummer, singer, bassist, two guitarists... perfection
Rob's voice makes this song show it's true power.
LMAO, this whole song is raw power.
2:41 sends goosebumps down my back every time!
3:10 gives me goosebumps every time.
Whole album is a masterpiece lol
best guitar solo of music history
My step dad was in a priest tribute band, and played Glenn's solos and the other dude did KK'S. They played from Maine to Texas, and it was really fucking awesome for a few years. He practiced this song for fucking hours, everyday until it was on point.
He had the Hamer and the other guy had a v guitar

Songs like this never get old or go out of date
Lyle Sargent metel songs never grew out of date
Lyle Sargent 33 years later still blasting this wth 3000 watt car stereo
Lyle Sargent yes, truly a classic
Lyle Sargent yes exactly, a whole album is immortal, never cant stop this, noone cant stop the Painkiller!
King Diamond “no one *can’t* stop the Painkiller”. So in other words your saying that you can stop the Painkiller...think about what you just said.
When your children ask you what Heavy Metal is, you play them this song and tell them if they can't handle this they can't handle anything else. This is Metal at it's absolute purest.
TheKane987245 Amen
I mean ive just recently gotten to appreciate this song. The vocals at frist can be a bit mucch for someone. After you let it sink in though its fucking killer.
TheKane987245 Disown them if they can't handle it.
It took me forever to give the whole song a chance i never liked high pitched vocals with heavy music didn't think it made sense but god once i got used to it so worth it incredible fucking song pure eargasmic guitar solo PERFECTION. Greatness epitomized.
It's like death they took me awhile to get into coz the vocals but once i did i was so happy i did. Most death metal TO ME is stupid and completely indecipherable but chuck schuldiner of death while he does have really harsh vocals they're easy to understand what he's saying still. And no I'm not comparing the 2 bands just saying sometimes a band with amazing and incredible talent gets overlooked because of vocals but once you get into em the musicianship is just instrumentally astonishing and satisfying to the ears. Just amazing.
This is the most metal song of alltime!
Though its not my personal favorite, you are goddamn right!
Love it!!! Rocks!!!
Not on the periodic table too.

I must've missed the point where metal -> chemistry jokes were funny.

Yep! Well, this one, Holy Diver, The Trooper, Master of Puppets, Paranoid, We're Not Gonna Take It, Stairway To Heaven, and Raining Blood.
Ian Hoswell well Led Zepplin is more of classic rock in my opinion
This song made me appreciate rock music. Concise intelligible lyrics that tell a story and amazing skill with the instruments by the band members.

Be sure to check out the cover by the band Death and then check out Death's album Symbolic. The song 1000 Eyes is a good first listen from them.
I'm sure it's not just me who gets legit goosebumps listening to this...
Also the vocals surprised me the first time I listened to this, I had only heard his vocals in the style of "living after midnight", "hell bent for leather", etc... I would have to suck helium to get through singing this song in this range, and I was a first soprano in my high school choir. It's impressive.
it's a cure for goosebumps in my case
It still blows my mind that this was on fucking NFL Madden 10. That game had an OUTSTANDING heavy metal/rock soundtrack for no good reason.

I discovered this song in middle school ish. 10+ years later, I still think it's one of the most perfect metal songs ever created, or songs in general.
Impossible song... As I rember, first heard it back in 1991 and that was mind blowing. Now too.

Words cannot describe how great that sounds.
We need this
Perfect for DOOM
Yep
I prefer this for Motorsport Manager. (Particularly for the Guildford Grand Prix.)
I'm sure this album is part of Doom's DNA in some way. I can imagine the Id Guys listened to this a lot based on the Doom theme song (main riff of this and the Doom theme are eerily similar)
Saul Goodman, Attorney Lots of metal songs and bands influenced DOOM like Metallica, Pantera and Judas Priest.
e1m1 sounds like this, but little changed
I got into Iron Maiden a couple years ago, which was sort of my "gateway drug", if you will, into heavy metal.
And for a while, if I'm honest, I still didn't really "get into" heavy metal. I don't know why. I wouldn't have called myself a heavy metal fan. I just kind of liked Iron Maiden and maybe a couple Motorhead songs. I think I even tried to get into Priest, but I think I ended up clicking on one of their less-great songs for whatever reason. I forget which. So I wasn't impressed.
And then, one day earlier this year, I saw Painkiller in my recommended. And I thought, meh, might as well check it out.
I was half asleep when I clicked it. As soon as I heard that absolutely insane drumming, I was no longer half asleep.
The guitar riffs, the drumming, Halford's absolutely incredible vocal range. Everything about this song was fucking incredible.
I think that week, I probably listened to it on repeat a few hundred times.
This was the one song that truly got me into heavy metal. Haven't looked back since. \m/
Ron Zombie said it well in the good docu 'metal a journey'; “Metal fans love it forever. No one goes, ‘Yeah I was really into Slayer one summer.’ I’ve never met that guy. I’ve only met the guy that’s got ‘Slayer’ carved across his chest.” Not saying you're into that certain band but through the decades I found that you may like 1 or 2 things at first but eventually come to love all the bands as a whole without realizing it first. As a teen I wasn't into slayer but now I do find myself listening to several of their songs which I think are great and slowly started listening to more of their songs. This is how you sometimes start with something mild and slowly end up loving the entire genre and being a metal fan; the point is you always were but you just didn't realize it yet and once you do you never let it go. I found out about this album the exact same way and now find myself a Priest fan.
Do you need someone to talk about it ?
Need introspection, feel insecure ?
There a qualified peoples for that. RUclips comments section is not.
(Tldrbtw)
I personaly got into avenged iron maiden but got into newer stuff like avenged sevenfold which in turn got me into slipknot and now im into all 80s-current metal guess sitting in the car with my dad got the metal into me
Forgot the comma between avenged and iron maiden*
The solos themselves were incredible!! Wish Iron Maiden could play solos on this level of Painkiller.
This song has the most impressive and epic vocals i have ever heard. Singer is so talented his voice is so unique especially for metal. Such an amazing song.
I wanna make a video game where this plays during the final boss battle
Too late, Brutal Legend did it :v
+anok98 oh yeah! I forgot about that
Rock Band 2, technically, it's the toughest song.
Doom 1 has similar Level 1 song...
Brutal Legend my dude
Slayer: Reign in Blood
Metallica: Master of Puppets
Priest: That's cute
If I could define metal in one song, it would be this
Johsty Bach Hell yeah! Right up there but how bout Damage Inc..Metallica
Hodassa Yentl Lifschitz
That would be how i would describe Thrash, right behind War Ensemble - Slayer
Johsty Bach Dude, how about holy wars by Megadeth?
+Wurdox that is another classic metal song. One of the greats.
Sabbath bloody Sabbath by black Sabbath
The more I listen to Judas Priest the more I think Glen Tipton is the greatest metal guitarist ever. He’s got his own style, tone and his playing is so precise. You can easily tell when Downing is playing and I say that with no ill intentions
This song is badass enough, but the sound (production wise) just makes it even more phenomenal.
The Big Four: Look at us. We're making the most thrashing, heaviest music ever!
Judas Priest: Hold my beer.
EXACTLY
OMG, most ignorant comment ever xDD Pathetic
Pretty sure Big Four came after and all list Judas as a inspiration
Aaron Scott Judas isn't super heavy
Isn't Judas priest from the UK? And the big four is only American. ( could be wrong )
The most metal song of all time.
ChronoWind That Master of Puppets cover is alright, but this is far more metal.
ChronoWind C'mon, let's be real. It's not. It's fun to be a hipster every once in a while, but c'mon.
ChronoWind Alright, you listen to value brand Master of Puppets then.
ChronoWind I'm only being half serious anyways. Besides I don't even hate Overkill. I was ragging on that song. I much prefer the album Horrorscope.
ChronoWind not even close bud
I read someone’s comment that said that they’ve never heard Rob Halford pull this off live. If that’s true then my theory is that he gave it everything he had in this one take and it was so incredibly awesome and powerful that it altered his vocal cords so that the song’s epicness could never be duplicated.
There are actually a few different videos of them performing this live on RUclips
Saw them live at Download in Melbourne, Australia in 2019. I can confirm that Rob Halford can indeed pull this off live
Rob performed this one with Baby Metal. Sound so funny. This is the pain kivor😂😂😂
