My mother used to make this for my father every Thanksgiving and Christmas. The kids wouldn’t touch it preferring mashed potatoes. I ended up trying it years later and was immediately filled with regret for missing out all those dinners!
Hello from Canada! Yes there are quite a few different names for things in North America- rocket is arugula and so on - tastes just as good! Thanks for commenting. Peter
Well, I have to do low carb, low oxalate Low salicylic acid and low histamine way of eating for the next couple months and somebody suggested rutabaga fries or rutabaga mash. For mash I used butter and heavy cream and salt. Topped it with a little bit of freeze dried chives holy smokes, absolutely delicious annd only eight net carbs, that’s it.! Potatoes 50 carbs depending on the potato, so rutabaga for the win
I have loved rhutabega since I was a little kid. I don't have any butter, but adding a generous amount of Marsala wine to moisten it up while mashing it tastes very good also. I also add lots of onion powder, or garlic powder or both in the water as I begin to cook it,
PS for those in the middle of transitioning to a different vegetable or low carb, etc, I figured out to add a big bit of mash potatoes. I did this with mash cauliflower, and my husband didn't recognize the cauliflower!
Seems like a lot of the rutabaga is wasted in peeling it. I wonder if you could put it in a pot of hot water and melt the wax off then peel it with an actual peeler so that not so much of it is wasted.
I will have to try that! I’m sure it really boosted to energy level of the meal and could keep one going all day. I like to rub coat baking potatoes in a very thin layer of bacon fat before baking - absolutely delicious! Thanks for the tip. Peter
Love sweed but I like butter & lots of white pepper in it delicious
Thank you very much! Enjoy.

I'm from the UK and love swede on the side of a roast...... I have never heard it called 'rutabaga' before haha. Love it!

I've heard a few names, including turnip, although we in the US know turnip as something else!
Excellent...thank you!
Great. Let me know how it works out for you. Thanks
Awesome thank you 🙏 🎉

Unless you're scared of the carbs, you could add some potato and carrot to the mash. It's an old Swedish recipe.
Wow ! How do I cook and mash swede lol. Desperation video.
Great video.😮😢✌️😁🤔

❤thank you!
How about a hand mixer?
Sure. You could take it all the way to a purée- not sure how that would be though. Good luck!
Great! We are looking for an alternative to our regular veggie side-dishes.
Thanks Frank!
Try boiling strips of bacon with it. Yum
Great idea. Right up my alley. Thanks. Peter

Keto friendly 👍🏼
Doesn't anyone know how much better rutabagas are with the addition of brown sugar?
Thanks for sharing the tip! I’ll definitely try that.
This video was 6 minutes and 8 seconds longer than it needed to be.

The light colored flesh is bitter. Like the pith of an orange. Need to perl down to the colored flesh to be rid of the bitterness.
7 minuten to say cut the rutabaga in pieces and mash it with butter.
Thanks for taking the time to comment
😂
my grand mother add the fat from about a half pound of bacon fart per pound of rutabaga.
