Nike’s blatant disregard for Caitlin Clark’s extraordinary impact on the WNBA is nothing short of a monumental failure.
Despite her ability to triple viewership and drive substantial revenue,
Nike remains shackled by unfounded fears of backlash from a segment of the league that resents her meteoric rise.
Their preference for A'ja Wilson over Clark for a signature shoe is not just perplexing; it’s a colossal miscalculation that overlooks the undeniable demand for Clark's brand.
By sidelining her, Nike is squandering a
historic opportunity to align with a game-changing athlete who is reshaping the landscape of women's basketball.

By failing to acknowledge that she’s not only tripled audiences but also attracted massive sponsorships and driven revenue to unprecedented heights,
Wertheim’s narrative downplays the lifeblood of the league’s growth.
Ignoring that Clark has brought real dollars to the WNBA is a glaring oversight, reducing her role to just another player when she’s actually reshaping the league’s financial future.
The interview squandered a chance to fully capture her game-changing influence, focusing instead on broad league themes, which undermines the true depth of her impact.

Adidas' move to praise Clark was very smart as it exposed Nike's blunder not to optimize her multi-million shoe contract by fast-tracking the production of her own signature shoes during the play-off. Her legion of fans would have bought in a flash just like her jersey! Or at very least, produce a TV ad with her. Tsk marketing 101. CC's management team should rescind her contract in favor of a better partner like Adidas or UA and work with Steph Curry for an awesome tandem TV ad!!!

We really don't know exactly what is transpiring between CC & Nike. It looks bad but Lets give it some time and CC will let us know what the delay was about. Consider this... Wilson's shoe is released after season ends. They sell poorly and six months from now her shoes can be bought in the bargain bins of major chains to get rid of them. Just before the new season starts CC's shoe is released to huge demand and quickly sells out. Millions await as new batches are released and sell out. Wilson grinds teeth as CC signs thousands of shoes as next season gets underway and continues through the season. Another clear example of who is the real star of the WNBA. Could happen that way.

The WNBA has not announced the Rookie of the Year winner yet. They put out a timetable about 2 weeks ago for all the awards & ROTY is the LAST award to be given out (no idea why that is) & is scheduled for Tuesday Oct 1 (tomorrow). I would think the Coach of the year or even MVP would be last…the regular season ended 10 days ago & ROTY award should come with celebrating yet some players have already moved on to their offseason plans. Is it because Caitlin Clark is the recipient that they are kind of sweeping it under the rug so as to not make waves with the thugs??

As long as Nike is paying Caitlin Clark, there is no breach of contract unless there is a timeframe related to the release of her shoe. Nike isn't doing themselves any favors by dropping the ball on this. To try and cover up their blunder, I can see them making a huge announcement at the opening of the 2025 season, and presenting her with the 2024 ROTY award then.
