- Ash Frame Body Resto - 1949 AC 2 Litre (slideshow).
Another in my series of slideshows, covering work on my AC 2 Litre Saloon, done before I had a camcorder.
The AC car factory used to refuse to restore the AC 2 Litre ash framed bodies. Many pro restorers avoid such cars. Specialist coach-builders will take them on if you have a large bank balance and don't care that the car will be worth only a fraction of that cost. How many amateurs can take on this task, and retain their sanity?

As someone who has spent the last eight years building a metal light aircraft from scratch with the aid of the plans mistakes and all I appreciate and admire you dedication and workmanship ,the drawings alone are a thing of beauty
Many thanks. That sounds like an amazing project. I hope it goes well.
I commend you on the Herculean effort to restore this car. You have done a phenomenal job.
Hi Ian, great to see some more information about the restoration, looking forward to the next installment. What a labour of love. Looking forward to seeing her back on the road.
Thanks Jonathan. You are one of the rare viewers who have travelled in my AC! Albeit back in the 1980s.
Lovely work Ian, those new blueprint drawings are a work of art!
Thanks Richard :)
Value or no value, I'm glad to see you restoring it. Seems you've done your homework on these cars. Looking forward to more!
Many thanks for your encouragement :)
Great video, coverage and commentary. Had not realised the woodworm invasion had started taking over the garage. Those detailed engineering drawings are amazing. The strain on your neck most unfortunate re those tendency to migraines.
Thanks. Yes, my migraines start in the neck.
Beautiful patient work as always, and the plans are an invaluable resource for future restorers and builders. I recently discovered woodworm had attacked some of the plywood on our Lanchester while it had been sat idle in the garage over winter, fortunately I seem to have caught it early enough that it was contained to just the corner of a couple of plywood panels, I don't think I'd have the means or skill to deal with an infestation on the level you'd had on the AC.
Thanks. And I'm relieved to hear that you caught the dreaded woodworm in time!
Hi,
Absolutely amazing channel!
Great work keeping the beautiful AC alive !
I have a Bristol 405 with parts of the ash frame being rotten.
Would you able to work on my car and sort the timber out for a fee ?
Many thanks😊
H
Many thanks. I love those Bristols! I'm afraid I can't do your timber repairs, although I can offer advice if you'd like to stay in touch via email? Mail: ian@ac2litre.com
I am thoroughly enjoying your videos. Your approach is thoughtful. In my channel I look after my Fiat X19 and would like to chat to you via email if you care to.
Thanks. I've taken a look at one of your X1/9 videos and enjoyed it too. Feel free to email me: ian@ac2litre.com
Imagine crashing one.
It can be better than being trapped in a more modern tin coffin! Morgans out-performed conventional cars in their crash tests, albeit using laminated ash for greater strength. The AC's door hinges are also way stronger than current safety legislation requirements.
