Hi, my name is Sophia C. Colias from Van, TX. I love this church a lot, wish I could go to this church, but think it's about 3 1/2 hours away or so from where I live at. :) There are no upc churches here in Van, TX that I know of yet. I found some elsewhere think it'd take around 1 hour if not bit less to get there, though I don't drive, my sister won't drive me to one unless it's in Van, TX. Here is some more about the soul, in which the churches of Christendom have taught that the soul cannot die, saying it is immortal, but which the Bible shows otherwise. Here is what the Bible teaches about the soul. (1) that the soul eats, for Deuteronomy 12:20 says, in which the King James Bible reads: "When the LORD thy God shall enlarge thy border, as he hath promised thee, and thou shalt say, I will eat flesh (or meat), because thy soul longeth to eat flesh; thou mayest eat flesh (or meat), whatsoever thy soul lusteth after."
(2) that the soul bleeds, for Jeremiah 2:34 says, in which the King James Bible reads: "Also in thy skirts (whereby the wicked two tribe kingdom of Judah is described as a ruthless woman) is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents."
(3) that the soul dies, for at James 5:20, the King James Bible reads: "Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death", and of which Isaiah 53:12 says of Jesus, that "therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death."(King James Bible)
(4) that the soul can be destroyed, for Joshua 10:39 says, according to the reading of the King James Bible: "And he took (or captured) it (or Debir), and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed (Hebrew charam, meaning "to prohibit, to exterminate, to be completely destroyed") all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king thereof; as he had done also to Libnah, and to her king."
And Joshua 10:40 shows that souls breathe, saying: "So Joshua smote all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded" (King James Bible), for the Hebrew word for soul literally means "breather", so that anything that breathes is a soul, and NOT possessing one.
And at Revelation 6:9, it reads according to the King James Bible: "And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the SOULS of them that were SLAIN (or killed) for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:"
And at Revelation 20:4, it reads according to the King James Bible: "And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the SOULS of them that were BEHEADED for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years", showing the soul as being killed, beheaded.
Thus, what can be concluded so far about the soul ? That the soul is us as a person that breathes, eats, bleeds, dies and can be destroyed and can represent who we are as a person, whereby our physical body can die, turning back to "dust" (see Gen 3:19) while who we are as a person can be resurrected back to life with a new body, as Jesus stated at Matthew 10:28.
So, the soul is NOT something that lives on after death, but dies when we stop breathing, for at Genesis 2:7, it says of the first man Adam: "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul."(King James Bible) Before God breathed into Adam "the breath of life", he was a dead soul, just as an appliance is dead until it is given electricity or its "breath of life".
And the word "soul" as the Hebrew nephesh and Greek psyche, that literally means "breather, a breathing creature", so that EVERYTHING that breathes IS a soul, "a breather", such as all the animals, birds, fish, insects, arachnids, etc, as Genesis 1:20 says: "And God went on to say: “Let the waters swarm forth (with fish) a swarm of living souls (Hebrew chay nephesh, meaning "living soul") and let flying creatures (birds) fly over the earth upon the face of the expanse of the heavens."(1984 New World Translation)
Genesis 1:24 says: "And God went on to say: “Let the earth put forth living souls according to their kinds, domestic animal and moving animal and wild beast of the earth according to its kind."(1984 New World Translation) So, after having created all the insects (that has six legs), arachnids (such as spiders that has eight legs) animals, fish, birds, God then came to his final creation of man, creating another "soul".
Genesis 2:7 reads according to the King James Bible: "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul", so that before "man" or Adam became "a living soul", until he started breathing, he was a DEAD soul.
You may have the ability to speak to men , but you don't have permission. If you can't obey 1Tim. 2:12, your going to have a bad judgement day.
Many accept the belief in the immortality of the soul, that when the body dies, there is a part called "the soul" that lives on forever, as a "ghost" of the dead person (such as believing that "Samuel" at 1 Samuel 28 was really Samuel speaking to King Saul, but was in fact, a demon impersonating Samuel, see Deut 18:10-12).
So, is the soul immortal ? The simple answer is no. Of the soul, the Bible shows it as NOT something "breathed into us", but that it is us as a person with all our desires, for here is how Genesis 2:7 reads according to the King James Bible:
"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul", so that only upon Adam starting to breath was he a "living soul", and before he started breathing, he was a dead soul.
The word "soul" is the Hebrew word nephesh that literally means "breather or breathing creature", so that any creature that breathes IS a soul and does NOT possess a soul, and when a soul stops breathing, they become a DEAD soul. At Deuteronomy 12:20, according to the King James Bible, it reads:
"When the Lord thy God shall enlarge thy border, as he hath promised thee, and thou shalt say, I will eat flesh, because thy soul longeth to eat flesh; thou mayest eat flesh, whatsoever thy soul lusteth after", showing the soul eating "flesh" or meat.
At Leviticus 23:30, according the King James Bible, it reads: "And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day (or Day of Atonement, verse 27), the same soul will I destroy from among his people", so that the soul can be destroyed.
At Jeremiah 2:34, according to the King James Bible, it reads: "Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these", so that the soul has blood. So what is it that eats meat, breathes, bleeds when cut ? Us as a person that can be destroyed.
At Isaiah 53:12, it reads of Jesus Christ: "Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he (Jesus Christ) shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors."(King James Bible)
Thus, at Matthew 26:38, it reads of Jesus saying: "Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me."(King James Bible) So, Jesus as "a breather, a breathing creature", died, no longer being "a living soul", but upon death, became a DEAD soul.
It is as Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6, 10 states: "For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know NOT any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.......Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might (while alive); for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest."(King James Bible)
Of the spirit, that is the Hebrew word ruach or Greek pneuma, it means a person's active, life force (that can be likened to electricity for an appliance that keeps it "alive"), or enthusiasm for life and is the SAME word for wind in the Bible. For example, at Genesis 6:3, according to the King James Bible, it reads: "And the Lord said, My spirit ("spirit", Hebrew ruach, or his motivation to act) shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years."
At Genesis 8:1, according to the King James Bible, it reads: "And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind ("wind", Hebrew ruach) to pass over the earth, and the waters assuaged."
At John 3:8, Jesus told Nicodemus, according to the King James Bible: "The wind (Greek pneuma) bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit (Greek pneuma)."
So, the word "spirit" in the Bible means that which is invisible, but produces visible results, just as wind does, and also applies to those in the spirit realm, God, whose name is Jehovah (see Isa 12:2, KJV), the angels (Ps 104:4), and even the demons, called "unclean spirits".(Matt 10:1)
At Ecclesiastes 3:18, 19, it says: "I also said in my heart about the sons of men that the true God will test them and show them that they are like animals, for there is an outcome for humans and an outcome for animals; they all have the same outcome."
"As the one dies, so the other dies; and they all have but one spirit ("spirit", Hebrew ruach or all have the same life force that keeps them alive). So man has no superiority over animals, for everything is futile."(New World Translation)
So, when Ecclesiastes 12:7 says that upon death, "then the dust (or the person made from "the dust", see Gen 3:19) returns to the earth (or decays), just as it was, and the spirit ("spirit", Hebrew ruach) returns to the true God who gave it (in which only Jehovah God can restore the life force to a dead person, by means of a resurrection, see Isa 26:19).
Thus, there are NO ghosts or "souls (or spirits) of the dead", no immortal soul, but there are "unclean spirits", demons who want people to believe this lie, as well as all other lies taught by the religions of the world called Babylon the Great (Rev 17:5, in which Christendom is a major part), where "unclean spirits" or demons make their home.(Rev 18:2, 3)
You are wrong. Your soul is going to live FOREVER somewhere. Sounds like you don't have a prayers chance in hell of making Heaven your home.
Interesting, so please correct me if I'm wrong but you're advocating that there is no life after death? The Saducees of Jesus' day were of the same opinion.
Hwever, Jesus Christ says to the criminal on the cross beside him (when they were dying on their crosses), "today you will be with me in paradise".
In the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, Christ clearly sees souls living in eternity.

No, I did not say that that "there is no life after death", but for a person that has died to live again, they must be resurrected, in which the Greek word anastasis (found 42 times in the Bible) is translated as "resurrection" (Matt 22:28, 31, 3, with the words "raised up" also meaning the resurrection as at Matt 16:21; 17:22, 23), and means "a standing up again" in life, is how a person can have "life after death".
But there is NO immortal soul, that "continues to live on after the death of the body", for the word "soul" is the Hebrew nephesh and Greek psyche, and literally means "a breather, a breathing creature", so that ANYTHING that breathes IS a soul and does NOT possess a soul, as Genesis 2:7 shows:
"And the Lord God (or Jehovah God, see Ex 6:3, KJV) formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man BECAME (or is) a living soul."(King James Bible) Before Jehovah "breathed into his nostrils the breath of life", Adam was a DEAD soul.
And Jesus did NOT say to the criminal to one side of him, that "today you will be in paradise", for (1) he was a criminal and was NOT qualified to be in "paradise", which word pointed to the original paradise in the garden of Eden (with Eden meaning "pleasure") some 4,000 years previous and was on the earth.(Gen 1:26-31) This repentant criminal would have to wait for his resurrection from the dead during Jesus Millennial reign (Rev 20:4-6), when there will "be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous".(Acts 24;15)
(2) he could not precede Jesus in being resurrected, for 1 Corinthians 15:23 shows Jesus as the first to be resurrected three days later, "Christ the firstfruits (on Nisan 16, 33 C.E.), afterward those who BELONG to Christ (or his "bride" or "CHASTE virgin", being morally and spiritually clean, 2 Cor 11:2, of 144,000 "Jews" Rev 7:4-8, or Jews and Gentiles, see Rom 11:11, 12, 17, LOYAL "chosen ones", Matt 24:22, 24, 31), that Jesus "will resurrect.....on the last day", that began in 1914 when God's heavenly Kingdom was "set up" and Jesus was crowned king of it.(Dan 2:44; John 6:40; Rev 6:1, 2)
And (3), there was NO punctuation in Koine Greek, so that later translators applied it as they BELIEVED (such as the King James Bible translators), often misunderstanding scripture and being tainted with false religious beliefs, such as immortality of the soul.(see Lev 23:30, that shows the soul can be destroyed, Deut 12:20, that shows the soul eats meat and Jeremiah 2:34, that shows the soul bleeds, so that the soul is us as a "breathing" person with all our desires)
So, an accurate translation of Luke 23:43 states: "Truly I tell you today (or at this moment), you will be with me in Paradise (giving him the promise that he would be resurrected during Jesus Millennial reign and have the opportunity to come to know and love Jehovah God and thus please him, see John 17:3, and "find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace......forever" on the earth (Ps 37:11, 29) that has been transformed into a paradise, as Jehovah originally intended when he created the first human couple, see Gen 1:26-31)."(2013 New World Translation)
