    After using hydrochloric to quickly dissolve even heavy rust, I immediately wash/soak the item in a medium concentration of caustic soda, this alkaline solution totally neutralizes the HCl acid and limits/stops secondary rusting. Good water rinsing is then needed. Leaving any Cl ions around steel will result in the steel later oxidizing. Then phosphoric acid is applied which aids paint adhesion through the formation iron-phosphate.

    The two videos are a really good tutorial on the risks of sandblasting body panels.

    Great video! Please do a video explaining how to avoid having low crown panels (hoods, roofs and deck lids especially) developing ripples on really hot days.

    Hey Wray, I am getting my 911 Targa ready for a windows out respray and the inside of the lower corners of the windshield frame was had a quarter inch diameter rust hole and wastage on both sides so I cut it out and TIG welded in inserts. However, I didn't realize that the lower seam was leaded from the factory and it got heated enough on the passenger side to slump and some ran out. Question, can I use short strand filler right over the lead? Will it stick? BTW, I use Muriatic Acid to remove mill scale from hot rolled sheet. Muriatic's additives can make it more reactive than pure hydrochloric.
    Hey Wray, another question directly related to your video. I have been in the Maritime Industry for about 44 years and I've used Ospho forever (phosphoric acid) and Ospho's instructions have always stated to put it on, let it sit overnight, and then prime and paint. However, I have never been really comfortable with this and followed some advice from pros that due barge hulls and they recommended reapplying Ospho and the wiping off and rinsing with straight water and then dry and coat. They assert that if you don't do this the acid can later bloom out (although I've not really had this happen in the past). What is your experience w/ it?

      @proshaper  Год назад +2

      Yes, it will be fine. You can epoxy prime first then the filler is better.

    Hi Wray, that special door skin tool you made was what I always heard called a heel bar. Looking at the shape from the side you can see why. I spoke to you a few weeks ago about trying to find some 19g sheet metal. There was a Ryerson supplier near me that listed 19 gauge, so I put in an order for two sheets and some other structural steel. Then when the estimate came back they had changed 19g to 18g! When I ? them that is when they told me even though it's in the product list they don't actually sell it. Guess 20g is the best any of us can do now.

      Most large steel dealers can't be bothered with one or two sheets orders. I had to order 45 sheets the other day of 19 gauge steel to get it. If you are within driving distance to my shop you can buy some 19 gauge steel sheets from me. They had to truck it in to their warehouse, they did not stock it. The door hem opening tool I made years ago, I made several versions for different situations. Only takes a few minutes to make one.
