- An astounding "debut" album from someone who has lived in the shadows for decades that doubles as Jay-Z's most relaxed work since the Blueprint. A monumental and important album that also brings back the unfortunate question of Anti-Semitism in racially conscious rap music.

Look I hear you about anti-semitism in hip hop. I hear ya. It should be addressed.
But I will say that when the Israeli military blows up a Palestinian school or hospital, they don't exactly portray the best light on themselves.
Palestine is a really important issue for a lot of artists in the hip-hop community.
When the Israel is labeled by everyone including themselves as a Jewish state, then commit atrocities on the West Bank, that gets projected onto Jews around the world.
What Netanyahu has done to the West Bank puts the jewish community more in danger than any Jay Electronic bar ever could.
Facts. Professor is a great reviewer, but his politics lean very liberal, very democratic party. He's often good on socio-cultural issues, but when it comes to geopolitics, global south and US imperialism, he's as blind as any other dem. In a recent review of his, he said that "mainstream media is mostly good". Well, their coverage of the current genocide tells me they're the exact opposite of "mostly good".
And shiny suit theory is literally. a 10 years old song. It still stands the test of time .
I learned that since doing the video. It is a great track.
Great review, aside from your misunderstanding as to why Blacks feel a certain way about the Jewish involvement in our history.

I love the album. You get good beats, atmosphere, and pure rap bars. And the silent Jay features like ghost/Chef. The Grammy nom was good.
It’s impossible to analyze the relevance of the Nation of Islam and “antisemitism” without a profound study of social history relating specifically to blacks and whites including “Jews” in the United States and the world. It’s irresponsible to highlight how black people respond to oppression as a way of deflection. Why do Jewish industry people have no stated or official issue with black artists using the N word or glamorizing deplorable life choices but any criticism of “semites” is taken as the highest protocol to dismiss?

the kids screaming is jay electronicas production tag .....listen to his album Act 1 he is sampling Jon brions soundtrack to eternal sunshine of the spotless mind movie... also listen to the songs , exhibit c, renaissance man, jazz mattaz, my world (nas tribute) and dear moleskin.... also the music video for dimethyltryptamine is one of the most insane hip hop videos ever made. kendrick Lamar is jay electronica's son once you realize how historically legendary jay electronica is, he even had a daughter with Erika Badu and then had a relationship with Kate Rothschild after he signed to her label, then signed with roc nation after being friends with literally ever hip hop titan the likes of p Diddy, just blaze, mos def and j dilla, then he waited for the craziest time in history and jay z to become a billionaire to drop his first album... its like a fucking movie he's even lived in many of hip hops greatest cities and travels to far reaches of the world.

Hey Prof. SSR. I love your reviews mainly for how they tap into an intellectual stream of consciousness each time you speak of an album; keeping it fresh every-time. I see that you keep comparing this album to TPAB & such, but I think there's an album that's more aligned to that comparison. I'll recommend 'Purple Moonlight Pages' by R.A.P. Ferreira (a.k.a. Milo). You won't be disappointed & it follows more of the live instrumentation that was apparent on TPAB. It's something special.

I love this, but why anti semitic what if there just telling the truth, most of the language they use concerning Jews is biblical language.
I really dont see any issue with calling "israel" satan. Its not the terminlogy I would use as im not religious. However its quite common for people who subsribe to a form of liberation theology to refer to colonialism as "satanic".

Why the fuck is the review of fantastic piece of a discussion about Jews? Who cares about some religious shit. Religion does nothing but divide society anyway. This album is the best Ive heard since " Good Kid, Mad City ". Nothing before that except ' Illmatic and " Enter The Wu Tang ".
