The sting would be painful...the sting is painful! I was once stung by a bull ant and a paper wasp when working in a garden bed. My co-worker and I were debating which sting was the most painful, when I got stung by both at the same time, mid discussion! I can tell you, they are pretty well the same in terms of intensity and duration. Crazy thing to happen.

They're not very large in numbers, and less aggressive compared to Jumping Jacks though

Did you think to take a pressure bandage with you and learn how to apply it for Australian snakebites?

    • @Jannik-TravellersMindset
      @Jannik-TravellersMindset  7 месяцев назад

      hey mate,
I did not have a bandage with me that time, but I'm aware and studied the behaviour on how to encounter snakes and deal with a bite!
always seeking information before hiking here is a must 👍🏼 I agree!

I've lived here in Australia for 38 years. Seen many snakes. If you leave them alone they will leave you alone. Never been bitten despite stepping on a tiger snake when I was about 10 lol

Loads of nests around Blackboy Hill in Greenmount - I'd stir up the nests on my walk home from school. Got bitten once (in my own backyard) on my toe, felt like a bee sting. For me, a bee sting was an extremely unpleasant experience.

Those bull ants look like what we call Inchman in Tasmania. Big but not overly aggressive. They are closely related to Jackjumpers(because they jump several times their body length when agitated-which is often even if you look at them the wrong way😉) which are half the size but are very aggressive and have hospitalised and killed quite a few people here through anaphylactic shock. Thankfully an effective desensitisation treatment has been developed for both since their venom is the same over the last 25-30 years. I don’t believe anyone has died from a sting for decades now, thankfully. They still bloody hurt when they sting and they have absolutely no fear!
edited: I agree that not everything is trying to kill us here, that is a total myth! I’ve spent a lot of time all over Australia. Croc country, stinger season in the top end, I’ve seen a Tiger snake in our kitchen as a kid here in Tassie in the mid 70s just trying to get warm in front of our wood stove. I nearly stepped on one as it crossed the track I was walking along as a 15 year old. I extended my gait and we both went on our way…
Go to Africa or North America for the truly dangerous animals! I don’t have to worry about bears when camping, for example. Sure, there are potential dangers in Australia, but just take simple precautions and LISTEN to local advice.

Jack Jumpers are absolute beasts. They are actually "Bull Ants", just not the variety Aussies usually call bull ants. If I had a choice I would pick a monster bull ant over a Jack Jumper sting any day. Jack Jumpers roam and attack you without provocation. Kookaburras (your enunciation was entertaining and perhaps deliberate but still made me smile) are actually early warning systems in Australia and warn when non-permanent "other non-local" people are out and about nearby. Besides reducing fire hazards, removing dead trees that have fallen on the ground are essential as they become new homes for bull ants very quickly. Jack Jumpers usually have raised mounds from digging extensive nests underground and are never friendly. Have a lovely collection of bull ant varieties. They ignore the cattle but the cattle have the bloodsucking March flies to contend with. Most snakes leave you alone in Australia. You have more chance getting clocked by a falling Gumtree limb than bitten by a snake but I still wear Gumboots, especially in summer, to minimize Jack Jumpers and the occasional angry Tiger, Black or Brown snakes. Copperheads, Taipans and Vipers etc are way too nice to attack. Hot weather in early Summer can bring tidal waves of flying ants or termites on expansion expeditionary adventures.

Mate. What ya got there looks like a typical meat ant. They do hurt a bit but not remotely even close to the most painful sting. The bullet ant. These guys are mosquitos in comparison. 😅

these are soldier ants. meat ants are much smaller and Coloney's of meat ants have many more than soldier ants

hey mate, thanks for your comment and watching the video!
these are definitely bull ants (bulldog ants)
Meat Ants are significantly smaller and look different.
The Bullant I encountered that was climbing the tree for example was at least 3cm in length. Meat Ants max grow to 1-1,2cm. Just google and you'll see the difference! 🙏🏼

Mate just please be careful with the soldiers roaming around the nest. There would be around 10 or more ants hidden around to make sure nothing is invading their territory. They even wait in branches above and can jump.
Always look around yourself when close to a bulldog ant nest. Deadly little buggers. I’ve only been stung a few times when I was a kid but holy hell it was not good.

Three great animal symbols of Australia and the Australian character. The Kangaroo, the wedge-tailed eagle (the best eagle) and the bull-ant or bulldog ant. You could also include the thylacine and the great white shark (the biggest ones are south of Australia).

utter crap they are soldier ants. I have had a hand full of bites all at once while working and wasn't that bad, personally the green ant has the worst bite which aches for hours after the fact and you don't need to go into any bushland to find them.

      hey phillip,
I appreciate you watching the video and admire your confidence!
But these are definitely Bullants/Bulldog Ants. I did a lot of research before I made the video.
unless you guys call the bull ants also soldier ants here in australia... I'm very certain you are talking about a different ant!
Just google & look into it: Bull Ant Australia and you'll see. It's exactly the ant I encountered on my bushwalk.
The most dangerous ant in the world.
Another big proof... just look at their heads. You can see how massive and unique the pinchers of the bullants are (same as shown in my video). definitely shows you they are bull ants! 🙏🏼
and yes, I can imagine that those green ant bites must've hurt. Always stay away and be safe mate! 🤙🏼
