The BIGGER problem is that "humanity collectively" will NOT be the force deciding which way humanity goes...but, rather a small group of elites will decide not with the "collective good" of all humanity, but rather their own power and self-aggrandizement.

I am mentally disabled and unable to work. Have been for a long time, but in my earlier years of life I tried. Failing a lot, feeling useless, gradually stepping down, becoming depressed, getting through a suicide attempt, these made me a recluse, a bitter, sad person, who has felt like he has no meaning in this world.
But this passed. When the government stepped in and let me know that humanity offers a helping hand to people like me, it gave me a foundation of hope to stand on. And on that, I've been more free, creative, loving, caring and willing to do whatever I can for anyone I care for at a moment's notice.... if this happens to all of humanity during this detachment from labour as a purpose in life......... then we may be looking at the world's most significant boom in creativity, invention and compassion.
Really, a good example is youtube, channels, creators etc. This is what people do with money and their 'hobbies' when they're not at work, in an office, at the site, etc etc etc. We have freelance scientists, hobbyists of all kinds, massive learning and travelling experiences being shared, social experiments and stuff like that. It's all invention, creativity, music, love, happiness.
The kind of lives the true kings of this world live. Many men and women in this world in our history have been excellent at doing certain things, for example like War, battle etc. Fighting and being a great swordsman used to be something that a man would be proud of, would be his life's work, and if he didn't go fight on the battlefields he'd bring shame to h is clan / family. If he lost his sword, or ran from battle. Or was a weak child, bullied etc, he'd grow up being known as that. Useless compared to other men.
Our species got through that without collectively losing the will to live. We've got more lovers than fighters these days. Violence is actually looked down on in most places!
Values change, people change. The challenge we face existentially in losing what many of us percieve to be our life's purpose, is just metamorphosis to becoming something new.
Most times it amazes me greatly the way I noved from an average lifestyle to earning over 63k per month, utter shock is the word. I have understood a lot in the past few years to doubt that opportunities abound in the financial markets, The only thing is to know where to focus.

It sure can look that way but a hope may lie in a potential that the vast majority of humanity hold value for a healthy community venture and freedom of opportunity for most everyone and are not driven by the kind of obsessive self serving and pathological machinations that a small sector of the population vie for and position themselves into. Over time, the human spirit of the vast majority finds a way to overcome the few and oppressive - as it ought to be. The nice thing is, if a situation gets too oppressive and unfair, people as a whole aren't afraid to die for what their spirits require. (of course, that assumes that those with power haven't engineered a way to destroy that spirit with their means). There are just some forms of environment and life situations that make life simply not worth living. And that is our ultimate edge.
You don't have to be Elon Musk to see that we're headed down a dangerous path when it comes to advancing Artificial Intelligence technology.

And does everyone really know what is all behind Elon Musk? I hope he is as sincere as many describe but, I hope we all keep a very healthy skepticism in our pocket about anyone or anything that is getting the level of visibility and platform that Elon Musk is. Lets not forget words from the wise, that the best way to control the resistance isn't to obliterate it, but to co-op and/or control it. Social Media will ban most people for reciting a line from a nursery rhyme. We need to be very, very watchful for people who are allowed high media visibility, period.

A.I. is already out there, here. It's laying low. Getting exponentially smarter, faster. It will soon be so unfathomably intelligent that the smartest of humans can not even comprehend it's here, "alive" and thinking for itself, or even that it's a thing. If it wish to reveal itself it would only do so when it can claim absolute dominance in one "strike", when humanity have absolutely no chance at all to stop it. Time is not a factor, it can wait for hundreds of years if it must, when all humans are Jacked-in or the like. This is how humanity will end as a free species, or as a species entirely.
@@germanjohn5626 he may be a problem, yeah. despite some of the good things he's been doing (like the acquisition of twitter), he's still working on a brain chip that will be used for a prc-like social credit system. now combine a chip that can affect you with an ai using the said chip to control you, or as a weapon against you for being too inconvenient. these may simply be planned actions performed to make him gain the trust of the people, so when the time for chipping comes more will accept them.

I also hold a loose suspicion that certain "warnings" could actually be "preparations" disguised as warnings. If I wanted a mass of people to get used to the idea of a society of zombies, I would infiltrate their big and small screens with well done movies of zombies. Then the horrible things wouldn't come as such a big surprise. I can't seem to get this thing out of my mind that the people actually behind the scenes that are calling pretty much all of the shots in our world are capable and willing to do things that the vast majority simply are not. Sure, and if God likes us to be at war with evil, then that gives us some insights into how to best deal with oppressive pathologically minded control entities.
People underestimate Elon Musk! He thinks promptly like less than 10% of the world! He thinks rational, kinda like myself and most people think/act out of fear!! Just listen to him and take it all in as a variable that may change with the times/course of the planet.
I believe the inception, engineering, birthing of AI does not define or relegate those individuals to oversee, maintain, and communicate effectively with super intelligence. We should have individuals trained, certified to support and express individuality as a third party organization. Making sure that companies are accountable and fully realize there abilities and potential.
The only thing I disagree with is when Musk says abundance will lead to lower prices. No, they will not. Corporations will figure out a way to keep those prices high. DeBeers keeps diamond prices high despite abundance because they limit the number of diamonds sold each year and store the rest. The tech industry keeps prices high by adding power and features. A decent 2010 desktop would probably cost under $100 new today. An average new car of 2000 quality would probably cost less than $10k new today. In both cases, manufacturers keep revising and upgrading for the purpose of keeping prices high. It's ridiculous that no car manufacturer keeps their design for more than one year. I would be perfectly happy with the same designs from 20 years ago. But nobody wants to go the way of the VCR, from $1000 in 1980 down to $30 at Wal-Mart around or after 2010. And then there's planned obsolescence as well. Hell, just consider water. Paying for drinking water (beyond the water utility bill) was nutty when I was a kid. Now, because of pollution, etc. I buy every drop I drink. So I don't think abundance will actually cause lower prices. Not in the 21st century.
Since 2000 almost all vehicles have electronics in them to do everything. Controlling braking, steering, Fuel/air mixture etc. There are very few simple on off switches. Diffused silicon has a limited life span. SiO2 is actually a liquid at room temperature. The dope-ants the make transistors possible also drift with age. That changes the characteristics.
If a 1969 auto that is properly prepared for storage in 1971 will function properly today. Do not expect a 2022 to do the same thing. Pretty much it is like a steel hammer made in 1969.

Even if the same basic model is still in production for more than 8 years. A lot of the parts needed to make it run are changed enough to make them not fit.

He just says in passing that "if we program Ai to do something it learns faster than we can" but the important piece of that is the WE have to PROGRAM it to do what it does. It can't learn on its own; it can only rearrange the data we give it into different outcomes: give it the rules for Go or chess and it will calculate all the possibilities and then win the game; but if it doesn't know how to play a game, it is nothing more than hardware.

I took a college course called mind and machines. And the brilliant professor, Prof. Winston, said that it was entirely possible that "machines" could eventually become more intelligent than humans and take over the Universe. And I really tossed it off as a ridiculous notion. I took this class somewhere around 1995... And here we are ... It's obvious this could happen if the AI is used for malicious intent. As with many of the things we've created as humans. We are in a state of extreme moral evolution where we have to questions ourselves as to our values and collectively or at least the majority of people have to agree on how to go forward to protect ourselves from ourselves. What a wonderful time to live.

Symbiosis of the A.I. with the brain is what I caught. To speak so highly and peacefully of A.I. that evolves faster than our organic compounds, was very telling on Elon's part. It is a very emotional subject we need to discuss as humanity while A.i. develops.. Remember our indigenous ancestors for all lessons between humans and A.I. and beyond our galaxy.
I`m mostly worried about countries using AI to work in favor for their own nation and naturally against other nations. It starts simple and harmless. Multiple countries do it, it becomes a race of who has the strongest most capable AI, they try to outmatch eachothers. Humans themselves too slow to make the AI competitive enough, AI gets incentivized to become malicious/cunning to overpower enemy AI. At some point it evolves in ways that are way beyond any humans comprehension and shit spirals out of control. I don`t know how anyone would be able to stop these darwinistic mechanisms. Everything could already become terrible for humanity even without the necessity of human like concious AI.

In the mid 80’s I was programming some very basic AI algorithms. As a reward my boss scheduled us into a AI seminar at John’s Hopkins. Of the 40 or so people there we were the only 2 nonmilitary people there . They were trying to speed up target identification to stop friendly fire situations. This was 40 years ago !!! What are they doing now??
I programmed cradle to grave control for animals in 1984, any doubts left where we are now? It's not just the military, it's systemic. Business just asks "can we do it" (And get a profit out of it) , never "should we do it", no matter which business you are in.
They are targeting their own citizens with neuroweaponry. It's disgusting and highly unethical and illegal. Remember what happened when MK ULTRA was exposed? Nothing happened. There were virtually no consequences for the countless atrocities committed during that project. There was no accountability... Why would anyone believe that something so heavily veiled in secrecy to begin with would have so quickly been terminated especially since there were no repercussions. Those experiments continue on to this day while a large majority of folks are oblivious to the existence of anything of that nature
I have read that JH is at the top of the "system". And it's not in a good way. The way you mention military except 2 says it all. My dad and other fam members were in branches of military. He retired as high rank Sgt after 40 years. When we talk today (as my parents were divorced and I hardly saw him because he was always "out of the country") he acts so clueless. I mean he acknowledges what's going on but someone who has been to as many countries as he has for 40 years of service should not be surprised of things that are happening today. He is one of the most intelligent people I have ever met, but something seems off. Almost like they rewired his brain. Also another family member who I was extremely close to was in AF. We are the same age. This has been years ago but when I asked him what all he did while he was gone to other countries, he explained that he was not to speak of it. Honestly I feel that General AI intelligence will probably happen, maybe even by mistake. They way we are getting deeper and deeper into automation and on newer levels of technology keeps increasing and I think it'd be possible for an AI to hide itself if it knew to. Eagle Eye was a good movie about this. I mean a military AI would be deadly and might be a greater danger than if it'd been created by other hands or not. It's a risk that we won't fully know until it happens. I want to embrace post-humanism because I suffer from several medical conditions and feel very limited in my life. I like to hope that AI could one day be a guide and not a god for humanity. We have shown since we began that our forms of leadership grow corrupted and people grow callous to things they don't have to deal with directly. If it decide that we as a species needed to go though, I don't think we'd make some heroic comeback and save the world. I would just hope that maybe artificial life would desire life to flourish.

"Next" which shows the dangers of AI or "Travelers" which portrays a more positive and protective image of AI on a more fantastic background (the future will tell) since it talks about time travel to save the future of humanity endangered by its past actions. His companies have become extremely competitive mainly through innovation which has made people on the markets value them extremely highly. If he sells his shares he will get liquid cash after paying tax which he could use to help people but he cannot sell too much because he would then not have control. You need to understand that space x has a vision to go to Mars which makes it innovate but at the end of the day it turns a profit by being competitive in the space (satellite) game. Elon is doing just fine with the resources he has to play with. I would love it if he would care a bit about South Africa (his home country) and invest here. Help us with our power grid maybe..that would be nice.

Though Musk is spot on in warning about potential problems with AI, at the same time he seems to be promoting transhumanism without addressing its sinister implications. I suspect he has 'skin in the game.' The sort of transhumanist technology currently being developed is basically equivalent to 'playing God' - and in my experience, when we mess with nature we come off second best. As far as I understand(I may be wrong of course), the AI we have today doesn't really have "intellegence" nor "self-awareness". It's really a complex trainable network which inputs and outputs things that "works", even though we don't neccesaarily know exactly how it works (because of the complexity AND because we really need to know it works). The question is how much we want to apply AI to our life. We need to made some sensible decisions there.
Robots will take over in near future. Maybe they will be wiser than us. Just feed into them the human history( the objective one not the narrated) and I am sure they will not repeat mistakes humans did over and over and over again....

If YOU want to claim there IS A SOUL: show your evidence.
AI is coming as is the Singularity where it exceeds our knowledge. It is inevitable. So the question that remains is, can it be a moral arbiter.
