Very nice track!! "Synth demos" don't get better than this. Amazing that this video has had only 2,541 views since Nov 4, 2011, as of February 19, 2020
Thanks for posting this as, I'm assuming here, your first of many songs with this synthesizer. I had played professionally back in the 1970s and early '80s and always had my TVS-1 around. Everyone loved it. Now that Tom has decided to reissue a unit similar to the original Two-Voice, I had to order one and I'm waiting for it to be built at this time. I am excited and honored to own such an instrument and I doubt I will ever sell it. It will be something to truly cherish for the rest of my life.
Awesome song, Scott. It definitely has the Oberheim sound and I have an Oberheim OB-Xa and a OB-1. It's great to watch and listen to a video where someone is playing an actual song, especially a killer original song, as opposed to knob twiddling or just having a sequencer playing a boring 4 to 16-note pattern over and over again. IMO, those type of videos have given vintage synths a bad reputation.
Amazing demo track but either I received a bad unit or you got extremely lucky. My SEM Pro has none of the sheen on top for leads or the liquidy/bubbly character in the resonance that is present here. All it does is buzz, click and hum. Hmmm, maybe it's that lovely Soundcraft mixer of yours removing all the ugliness in modern SMD "too perfect" design. At any rate, it's a wonderful demo, probably the best I've heard for this instrument.
Thanks. Always check the power supply first if you think there's a problem, otherwise maybe something else is wrong because it should sound really smooth and nice!
Ah yes, the OB-8. I had one of those too back in the day. Used it for sound effects for a play here on Long Island of "The Wizard of Oz". In the studio in NYC we had access to a Four-Voice Oberheim and yes, I made use of that too! There is simply something warmer for me when playing an instrument made by Tom Oberheim. The control over the instrument seems "right". The others certainly have their spot in the hall of fame also, but for me, given a choice, I'll grab an Oberheim over anything else.
Thanks! I agree, although I don't know if they give synths a bad name as much as the people using them. It's pretty hard to know how useful a musical instrument is until you hear it in a mix. You can come up with some cool sounds that get buried in the song and really aren't as useful as they first seem. I still love my OB-8 (although it needs repair right now) even though it's not the fattest sounding synth. Often the slightly thinner sound works better in a song and can be heard more clearly.
I'm sure it will be great. That sounds like me with my OB-8. It doesn't do everything but it's a great go-to synth that I hope I never have to sell (again)!
@captainleisuresuit heh, thanks! I find that true of most "demo" videos. It's usually someone turning knobs randomly like they don't have a clue what they're doing and playing 3 notes over and over and over and over. More and more I find that synths can sound totally different when you put the sounds into a mix so hearing a few random sounds on their own doesn't really show you what the instrument is capable of doing!
The best SEM pro video, straight back in the 70’s!!!!💕☔️☔️☔️
killer demo track! First time that I've heard someone making music with this instead of just squelchy noises.
Straight back in the 70’s!✌️😎🇫🇷🇩🇿🇺🇸

Awesome!
How do you create new patches or sounds?
Fantastic, Is it able to get such sounds with the OB6 as well?
How many voices or polyphony?

@adrianh63 Just turn the knobs and flip the switches. Very easy!
@adrianh63 A grand total of ONE! But it's a really really big one!
