@@TheHorsebox2 should we say missexpected versus missprefered ... missing other expectations or préférences is quite the same, but the second is less violent and respect freedom. Might be more open to surprises, or more curious about others... more open.You open the 'culpabilisation' side of expectations, that is very interesting... is culpability is the great part of expectations suffering ? A response about culpability or like of self estim ... is a quote of Rûmi : " Roda told me to love my ennemi, So i love myself infinitly" 😏

This brought a tear to my eye, because you just helped me figure out my problem. I am guilty of this expectation stuff. I expect way too much for what I put into others and 90% fail me because I set myself up for it.
Then I'm let down, hurt, bummed. Then eventually follows the distrust in them.
I have even grown to "expect" the failure. I say things like, "That figures, I knew it, typical, it never fails" etc etc..
I am going to "prefer" from now on.

My wife expected me to be there for the baby when needed but often I couldn't do it. Same thing accounted when our second child was born. Now we are in turmoil and seeing a counselor for therapy. God bless us and angels, please help us to grow back together! This marriage must go on.

I really needed this because my boyfriend of 10 years dumped me and I was sincerely hoping he would marry me. I would prefer if I had a family of my own and feel I'm growing closer to it.

He tried getting revenge on me by setting me up with a random dude on Instagram just to have him get my pants. Seriously, this guy needs therapy.

Beautifully illustrated and really brings the point home for me. I have often expected a lot from me and from others only to see them unfulfilled leading to anxiety and distrust of others which eventually devalues to the relationship. A close friend said to me have high self standards and low expectations of others. I think your approach of preferences is really useful which allows for acceptance of reality for now, if you preferences are not met. Thank you for a great lesson!!

"Accept what life is showing you" is an excellent way of looking at things. It seems the same as saying, "Everything happens for a reason," so to accept that can cause you less distress when something goes wrong. I do expect certain standards from people, especially friends and family, and if they fall below those standards, I make sure they know it or they will never learn. I won't just accept unacceptable behaviour.

But from my observation the root cause of all seems to stem from forgetting where we came from... ancient ppl had the knowledge of their past present and future with mind power...but in this kaliyuga it's impossible to attain that state cause of the greed, jealousy, lust and hatred that seems to rule the current world
