He would've been treated entirely different to Gerry Parks for example, Carter would've been fed better, worked easier jobs, less hours etc, but most importantly HE had plenty of opportunities to defect due to trips/errands outside of Jonestown. He knew the arsenal of weapons in Jonestown and had he said just something about Ryan's life being in extreme danger, when he infiltrated the "concerned relatives" just think what could have been prevented.
