    Joanies's comedic timing was absolutely perfect. Her interpretation was perfect. Her technique was unparalleled and remains so to this day

    Love the critic's comment about the Czardas may as well as have been in Hungarian. Take it to the bank, Dame Joan!

    As a native Hungarian, I am IMPRESSED. She was a beast. La Stupenda indeed.

    In the introduction she actually projects her low chest voice pretty well for her standard! Brava!

    For people who don't know, Sutherland is singing this part of the operetta IN HUNGARIAN.

      Thats true, but as I am a native Hungarian, I rarely understand 1-2 words. Anyways, she sings it really well

      Sounds as if Rosalinde planned this „show“
      in the 1st act….😂

    What a show-stopper.I have always loved this aria (or song) and probably most admired the
    Elizabeth Schwarzkopf version,despite the cut-off final note.However,Dame Joan’s is far and
    above the greatest of them all.She has left us such an amazing recorded legacy.Thank you.

      Nonsense--Anna Moffo's version here on youtube is clearly superior, as was so often the case in varied repertoire during her prime.

    • @silverkitty2503
      @silverkitty2503 3 года назад

      @@diefledermichael801 no singer has truly ever mastered this aria that is the truth ...imo as a singer this rendition is like the closest to a decent rendition ..the fact that this aria stretched even joan sutherland though should tell you everything you need to know about the difficulty involved ....i don't think there will ever be a singer who will pull this off really well ....imo strauss should have changed it to fit the human voice a bit better ..with mozart queen of the night aria his genius was stretching and pushing the voice not to write something inhuman that no singer was ever going to be able to master ...and even joan sutherland and anna moffo themselves would tell you no singer alive or dead has mastered this aria they either change it or .it usually falls apart ..

  • @CaptFitzbattleaxe

    Nonsense. Hallenstein is wonderful, but this is in a class all its own. No one could combine power, beauty and perfect technique like Joan Sutherland.

    Such a magnificent voice.

  • @CaptFitzbattleaxe
    @CaptFitzbattleaxe  12 лет назад +7

    @MusikPiratCH The more I listen to opera, the more I realise that no repretoire belings to any one singer. Hallenstein & Sutherland were world class singers, but comparing them is silly. Each interpretation is fabulous, but in a different way. (Also, Suthetland sings in Hungarian here to jive with the storyline better.)

    Hazámnak dalára nyugtom nem lelem,
    Könnytelt a szemem, a szívem fáj,
    Igéz a hangja, a zenéje kábít,
    Visszacsábít híven az ősi táj.
    A pusztán a délibáb,
    A napfény, a nyíló virág,
    A fák sűrű zöldje,
    A dús búza földje,
    Ó, az volt a boldog világ!
    Ó, százszor áldott kép,
    Mely a szívembe zárva ég!
    Százszor áldott kép,
    Ha messze vagy ma, hazám, ah,
    Te vagy szülőanyám,
    Szívemben ég a vágy,
    Rólad zeng a szám!
    A pusztán a délibáb,
    A napfény, a nyíló virág,
    A fák sűrű zöldje,
    A dús búza földje,
    Ó, az volt a boldog világ!
    Tűz és szenvedély,
    Víg hangú jó kedély,
    Tánc és nótaszó,
    Így mulatni jó!
    Hej, te barna lány,
    Csárdásra várnak ám!
    Nyújtsd a két karod,
    Járd a táncot, hopp!
    Húz rá egy szépet,
    Ujjong az ének!
    Peng a sarkantyú,
    Elszáll a gond, a bú,
    Párja oldalán
    Boldog így a lány.
    Bort, bort nékünk,
    Forrjon a vérünk!
    Boldog álmot!
    Boldog álmot hozzon ez ma rám.
    Baj, ha volna,
    Fojtsuk borba,
    Ezzel köszöntlek, szép hazám!
    Tűz és szenvedély,
    Víg hangú jó kedély,
    Tánc és nótaszó,
    Így mulatni jó!

    MusikPiratCH Hallstein had about a third of Sutherland's voice and if you prefer canary soubrettes singing Rosalinde then one can understand why you may prefer those singers you named.

    • @MusikPiratCH
      @MusikPiratCH 10 лет назад +1

      Nevertheless Sutherland cannot match with Hallstein's Czardas. And as at that time Sutherland isn't singing the original language - German! And volume is not the criterium I use - sorry, but you seem not to understand what means good coloraturas ... Therefore I don't discuss any further with you.

    • @Dadacomero

      MusikPiratCH
      Who is talking about volume? What has volume got to do with anything we are talking about here? You seem to be totally on the wrong track. Hallstein was a soubrette and couldnt/didnt sing Rosalinde or the Czardas in the theater. Sutherland was a dramatic coloratura. Hallstein also sang many Italian roles in German, so what?

    • @williammaddox3339
      @williammaddox3339 8 лет назад +3

      Acacia - Hallstein had 1/3 of JS's voice? More like 1/10

    • @MusikPiratCH
      @MusikPiratCH 8 лет назад

      +William maddox I don't understand what you mean by that! If you compare voices like that we have nothing at all in common!
      I judge more their technique and here Sutherland is weaker than Hallstein. Here in this role Sutherland has no legato in her coloraturas and nothing light like Strauss Czardas asks! Your idol Joan Sutherland seems very weak in this role that does not even suit her. Sometimes you should be intelligent in chosing roles that suits you ... xD
      +Acaccia Bloom Same with you! You seem to know everything about Joan Sutherland (who is really bad here) but nothing about Hallstein, who was the best Johann Strauss singers! xD Give me a break! :P

    Joan Sutherland admitted herself ...this is an inhuman aria. It was her opinion no one could sing it ...i agree....no singer alive or dead has pulled this off its UNSINGABLE....even though she thought no one could sing it ....she JUST ABOUT sang it ....this aria nearly fucked Joan Sutherland ....THAT is how hard this aria is. Think about that.
