What a show-stopper.I have always loved this aria (or song) and probably most admired the Elizabeth Schwarzkopf version, despite the cut-off final note. However,Dame Joan’s is far and above the greatest of them all.She has left us such an amazing recorded legacy.Thank you.

@MusikPiratCH The more I listen to opera, the more I realise that no repretoire belings to any one singer. Hallenstein & Sutherland were world class singers, but comparing them is silly. Each interpretation is fabulous, but in a different way. (Also, Suthetland sings in Hungarian here to jive with the storyline better.)

MusikPiratCH Hallstein had about a third of Sutherland's voice and if you prefer canary soubrettes singing Rosalinde then one can understand why you may prefer those singers you named.
Nevertheless Sutherland cannot match with Hallstein's Czardas. And as at that time Sutherland isn't singing the original language - German! And volume is not the criterium I use - sorry, but you seem not to understand what means good coloraturas ... Therefore I don't discuss any further with you.
MusikPiratCH Who is talking about volume? What has volume got to do with anything we are talking about here? You seem to be totally on the wrong track. Hallstein was a soubrette and couldnt/didnt sing Rosalinde or the Czardas in the theater. Sutherland was a dramatic coloratura. Hallstein also sang many Italian roles in German, so what?
+William maddox I don't understand what you mean by that! If you compare voices like that we have nothing at all in common! I judge more their technique and here Sutherland is weaker than Hallstein. Here in this role Sutherland has no legato in her coloraturas and nothing light like Strauss Czardas asks! Your idol Joan Sutherland seems very weak in this role that does not even suit her. Sometimes you should be intelligent in chosing roles that suits you ... xD +Acaccia Bloom Same with you! You seem to know everything about Joan Sutherland (who is really bad here) but nothing about Hallstein, who was the best Johann Strauss singers! xD Give me a break! :P

Joanies's comedic timing was absolutely perfect. Her interpretation was perfect. Her technique was unparalleled and remains so to this day
She could have sung Chinese for all I care. Stupenda!!!
Love the critic's comment about the Czardas may as well as have been in Hungarian. Take it to the bank, Dame Joan!
As a native Hungarian, I am IMPRESSED. She was a beast. La Stupenda indeed.
The unmistakable voice of the incomparable Joan Sutherland.
In the introduction she actually projects her low chest voice pretty well for her standard! Brava!
Tecnicamente sem rival. Bravíssima.
What a scene!!!! "But sir - I was singing in Hungarian" how professional!
For people who don't know, Sutherland is singing this part of the operetta IN HUNGARIAN.
Thats true, but as I am a native Hungarian, I rarely understand 1-2 words. Anyways, she sings it really well
Sounds as if Rosalinde planned this „show“
in the 1st act….😂

Nonsense--Anna Moffo's version here on youtube is clearly superior, as was so often the case in varied repertoire during her prime.

Nonsense. Hallenstein is wonderful, but this is in a class all its own. No one could combine power, beauty and perfect technique like Joan Sutherland.
Her comedic timing was perfect
Such a magnificent voice.

Boldog így a lány.

Egy igazi csillogó gyöngyszem. Csak csodálni lehet.
Perfection!!!
Elizabeth Rethberg sings this magnificently. I also love Joan et al. Nice to have choices.
One and only ♥️🌟🌟🌟
The best! ❤️

People, just listen to Cristina Deutekom's version on yt, please. Listen and cry.
This version?.... ruclips.net/video/WUr52QMfsPw/видео.html
Three hearing impared people said "dont like"
This seems slightly higher pitched than on the cd, which I own, and which, unfortunately, seems a semitone too low. Have you remastered it? :)
I love Joan............but my favorite version of this is the Gundula Janowitz. Check it out.
Unforgettable!
Who's ever heard of Hallstein?
A goddess ❤
Hallstein, Hallstein. Wer ist schon Hallstein....
Хороша.

Now we all love you mother Sutherland ,however this language is HORRIBLE!!!!!
How is it horrible, my aunt speaks Hungarian and said it was pretty accurate.
However the original language of Strauss' "Die Fledermaus" is German (Klänge der Heimat)! :P
I also find Sutherland's singing horrible here! ;(
