  • Daughter Becky shares anecdotes about father Jack.
John Griffith London (born John Griffith Chaney; January 12, 1876 - November 22, 1916) was an American novelist, journalist, and social activist. A pioneer of commercial fiction and American magazines, he was one of the first American authors to become an international celebrity and earn a large fortune from writing. He was also an innovator in the genre that would later become known as science fiction.
London was part of the radical literary group "The Crowd" in San Francisco and a passionate advocate of unionization, workers' rights, socialism, and eugenics. He wrote several works dealing with these topics, such as his dystopian novel The Iron Heel, his non-fiction exposé The People of the Abyss, War of the Classes, and Before Adam.
His most famous works include The Call of the Wild and White Fang, both set in the Klondike Gold Rush, as well as the short stories "To Build a Fire", "An Odyssey of the North", and "Love of Life". He also wrote about the South Pacific in stories such as "The Pearls of Parlay", and "The Heathen".

As a child, I read "The Call of the Wild" and "White Fang" a million times, and I listened to "Martin Eden" in a dramatized version for the radion. Thank you for this wonderful documentary.

I’m on Call of the Wind now, but I finished Martin Eden about a month ago and I listened to it as well. I listened to the version narrated by Edoardo Ballerini and it’s glorious!!! The delivery of the ol’ Oirish accents were beautiful and really helped with immersion.
I was feeling a bit lost after finishing Nietzsche, but so far Mr. London has been everything people have tried to convince me that Hemingway was, only truly.

What a joy it is to watch and listen to Jack's daughter recount the memories of her father. Jack London was a high achiever over adversity, adventurer, social justice warrior, animal rights activist, sailor, writer and loving father. He did everything in life with passion and vigour. A man of his time, an enigmatic figure, flawed and often absent but loved and respected by Bess/Becky and many more.

Thank you very much! Jack London was my favorite writer in childhood)) I love his North stories, they are so true. He was very popular in former Soviet Union and he is still popular in Ukraine.
And what a delight to see his daughter!

This is a delightful documentary on Jack London. Truly a great and adventurous man. I believe that he was an alcoholic but nothing could be done to save him from that and his severe chronic pain. His book John Barleycorn is a masterpiece and should be read by everyone!! I really loved his daughter talking; she truly loved her daddy! What a man! What a life!

From dad I have a stack of Jack London books. Maybe it's time to read them. I really like how he lived his life, because its a way of lifeI have endavoured to live myself over the years and am far too aware of what challenges come along with such a choice.
Very inspiring to hear his estranged daughter attesting to the goodness of his heart.
That's a mighty feat in the world of art and litterature it seems.❤

My Grandfather - a surgeon - met Jack London in the South Pacific. I thought "The Iron Heel" was good. George Orwell said it was a source of "1984." "The Seawolf" is brilliant.

A second source for "1984" was James Burnham's "The Managerial Revolution."

Londons 1910 science fiction short story "Unparalleled Invasion" would be the template for US 20thC biowarfare policy and bioweapons development, which would eventually culminate on the attack in Wuhan, China, resulting in the 2020 global pandemic. And previously said to have inspired the notorious Unit 731, Japans biowarfare program and the mass biological and chemical munitions used during the Korean War. Certainly the most acclaimed racist PoS Sinophobe.

BELOVED! PLEASE don't die without JESUS in your heart!
    St John 3:16! ❤️
I was once atheist, but JESUS SAVED me!
Better NEVER to have been born, than to die atheist!
"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." Revelation 21:8!
    Brilliant but foolish.
"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God." Psalm 14:1a!
