➡️ Slovenia 🇸🇮 to Austria 🇦🇹 Ljubelj Pass
To my knowledge, the Ljubelj Pass is the oldest road pass in Europe. It served as a main transport route from Slovenia to Klagenfurt in Austria. Now it is closed for motor vehicles but super interesting if you are a sports enthusiast. On the top you will be rewarded with a fantastic view and local culinary delights in the mountain cottage you will reach at the top. 😋

✨ WHAT'S SPECIAL ABOUT THIS WALK?
If you catch a sunny day you are going to enjoy the scenic views of the surrounding mountains. Around 300 m height difference feels a bit steep. The trail ends at 1369m with a lovely mountain cottage at the top offering fantastic views and feelings. During the winter time, this trail is an absolute win :)
➡️ Length: Approx. 2,5 km (1,5 miles) or 45 min.
➡️ My Grade: Easy - Moderate Walk 👣

✨ A BUCKET OF "TO DOS" NEARBY DURING WINTER.
💛 "Take the sled with you and return back in style" 💛 This must be one of the most exciting sledding I have tried. But rather be careful and responsible here as the drive can be very fast (!)
💛 "Try local "dishes on a spoon" at Koča na Ljubelju at the top" 💛 There are several delicious to choose from. For me, personally "ricet" is a sure win.
💛 "Make some memories by catching surrounding mountains in a beautiful photo" 💛
💛 "Walk through the "door" of an old border crossing at the top and enjoy the view towards Austria" 💛

🗺️ INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT LJUBELJ PASS
Ljubelj (or German Loibl) Pass is known for its rich history. The Romans connected the settlements of Emona (the predecessor of Ljubljana) and Virunum, the capital of Noricum located in Gosposvetsko field, using the Ljubelj Pass.
In 1575, a short tunnel (100 meters long), one of the first mountain tunnels in Europe, was built just below the summit of the Ljubelj Pass.
Nowadays, the road is closed to traffic, so this is a favorite place for nature lovers. In winter, you can enjoy the snow-crunching stress relief hike. on the way to the top and test your courage on a sled during the descent. This place is popular among adrenaline lovers also during the summer. Namely, this is the location of the first adrenaline park in Slovenia.
