  • SEMINAR ABSTRACT
Predictive processing has emerged as an influential framework for explaining mind and cognition across several disciplines. On the one hand predictive processing has spawned a large number of studies and debates, on the other hand it seems highly abstract and beyond empirical testing. Jakob looks at where the framework is at currently, discusses the theoretical reasons for taking predictive processing seriously, addresses some common objections, and considers different kinds of research inspired by the framework.

Jakob is the author of The Predictive Mind (OUP 2013), which explains perception, consciousness, and self through the notion of the brain as primarily engaged in uncertainty reduction.
