You don't even need the key by the way, after you beat gargoyles he will be a firelink no matter what
If memory serves, he gives a sunlight medal for 'saving' him. So, double loot for dooing so.
Gargoyles are laughably easy but if u help Lautrec, u can summon him and Sunbro, and u get 2 sunlight medals, 1 from sunbro and another for freeing lautrec. Makes the whole run smoother. Especially back then where right before the ladder to the gargoyles use to be a hot bed for twink invasions.
You still don't need the key just use master key

elite knight helmet and leggings (no chestpiece or gloves)
and any weapon i feel like using

also make a really buff character for extra effect
@@Dawooded tbh I'd drop the fap ring. But I also doing PVE only. No use for extra health, stamina, or equip load that can't be filled by leveling.
Get an extra slot for flex and keep ninja flip when you need another ring.

@@Eshtianthe equip load helps alot, I was at like 30 end or smthn, had a cool armor set and when I broke my fap ring even my havels ring didn't fix it, I've learnt to live dark souls life with only one ring slot and have the fap ring be part of the game

There's a hole in your story that you need to clear up.
Havels should be an equal replacement that allows for better flexibility.

I'm glad to see people bring up old tricks, I'd do this every first playthrough just to get the ring, and I only do it when I take the ring off the first time. It's also very helpful for late game

You also won't be able to get the Dingy set, which is actually quite good (mostly due to being light) and is very fashionable.

To be honest, I decided to go with hard route, complete his quest to get the full revenge and take his clothes too because it's wasted on guy like him 😎

As a souls vet, there are way better rings to get that early on. Example, start with master key->blighttown skip->hollow tree-> jump into center then grab ring-> hwbone back up to bonfire-> run to andre(using same location) *DO NOT GRAB ITEM NEAR DRAGON YET* (far side has soul you can grab without agro) -> run past drakes and make it to the elevator-> run to other side and grab stam shield. Now you have infinite stam, also stacks with mask of the Child and the stam weeds. Hope that helps anyone in the comments😊

the ring is good yes but you'll be missing out on 2 armor sets, the black eye orb and 1 free souvenir of reprisal
overall getting the ring early really ain't worth it, runnig havel + wolf or cloranthy ring usually gets you more value

Pretty sure you never learn the right of kindling if you do it this way either so you can never kindle past 20 but I could be wrong but turning down a free 20 kindle for the fap ring that honestly isn’t that good is kinda dumb and the reason it’s not good is cause you can EASILY level to have the exact same as what the ring was giving you and have say havels ring and any other good ring that way you have stupid equip load and can have extra damage or health or whatever else your second ring of choice would be, ninja ring and like the stamina ring is a better choice than taking fap imo

Mystery bit key is kinda can be clipped if you pick the master key which also is the best burial gift in DS 1
You shouldn’t kill him, you’ll miss out on a great quest and some really good lore and items if you do. Trust me you want to keep this guy alive

Many people don't know this, but if you don't have the master key and don't wanna key the key from the undead parish, you can just kill the gargoyles and he'll spawn in firelink. He just won't give you a medal
You gotta kill lautrec ring or no ring he literally ruins the one place that has good vibes in the whole game

To clarify, its not quite as good a strat if your playing a heavy build. It will still come in handy, but if you rely on havels ring, youll either have to break the ring you got from lautrec, or remove havels ring in order to replace one of them with the ring that lets you travers the abyss to fight the 4 kings. And not having havels ring as a heavy build sucks so much

If you don’t care about a single metal of sunlight, you can also just kill the gargoyales and then kick him off the cliff

Tbh, I don't like killing NPCs. Not even Lautrec. I prefer fighting him and his puny little gank squad to take revenge in the name of Anastacia.
I also prefer to have a free Ring slot during the first half of the game. The iron ring is one of the best tools early on. The other slot is Havels.

You can also open the door with master key, or by killing the gargoyles he'll appear in firelink on his own.
Many think Lautrec is a bad guy, but he's actually just trying to break the endless cycle of undead that are sent to rekindle the first flame.
He's actually the good guy who tries to let the first flame extinguish, but ofc it's bad for the player when the fire keeper in firelink shrine dies..

If he’s gone from firelink already don’t worry the ring is still possible, wait till you get to Anor Londo, and when you get the message use the black eye orb. I’m not saying anything else that should be enough. The game makes it clear as day when and where it should be used

I never ended up using that ring because you have to use it permanently lest it break and you only get two ring slots so I don’t think it’s really worth it

You can also rest at a bonfire rather than quit out
You get it from just killing him legitimately
Don’t forget to get havels ring especially easy to get if you have the master key or are using a thief class
he will get freed himself even without the key
Don't do this because you'll miss out on the storyline and a few other items

I would never advise a new player to do this, it would ruin their experience. Doing his questline is part of the journey.

The FaP Ring is probably one of the best… unless you like pain then go for the Covetous Silver Serpent Ring, which boosts Soul Gain.
3 months late, but for anyone wondering, the most optimal way to benefit from the Covetous Silver Serpent Ring (and the Symbol of Avarice) is to equip them right as you kill a boss. You have a good 10 - 15 seconds before receiving the souls and as long as you equip it in time you'll get the bonus while being able to use whatever ring you'd prefer for the fight.

I can imagine that ring is extremely useful in the early game, but killing Lautrec then and not later means missing out on his armor. That is why I would never do it...

His drops also fall in a place you can collect them in new londo, so you can go down and collect the item there along with the ring
New London is underground though. You mean blightown swamp?
@@Eshtian no its not? Theres an elevator straight down to NL, but its over open air. Its just always dark. When you kick him he falls in an area behind the elevator where theres already an item.

The cliff falls straight to blightown. If he falls into new Londo then it's an area loading mistake that juts new londo out slightly.
@@Eshtian that doesn't seem right... the map works perfectly and we don't see any ground that would be the ceiling of NL. Eitherways i found his loot there.

I just double checked the game on Google and it's a rock rooftop with a big hole providing light.

Just beat the gargoyles, no key needed
This ring is probably the single most busted item for the sole purpose of how much it can change the beginning of the game, I owe not losing my sanity to this ring. If you get this, the Claymore and the Thief set you can have a good set up for a little while. The Thief set isn't banging by itself but it is rather light and its fashion is awesome

Im here to be annoying and tell you FaP is one of the best rings for new players, but red tearstone and dark woodgrain ring are functionally better. one gives more I frames and cool roll and backstep, the other doubles your damage at low health

He'll give you one side mission where you can invade his world & get firekeeper soul back from him
There'll be three enemies & at the end you'll get the ring from him & also his armors

How much load should I get before destroying that ring?
I often keep it to the end of the game personally. Depends what else you’re looking to use. Havel’s Ring is much better if you’re needing equipment load so replace it with that easily
