A long time back, I recall one writer speculating on a connection to Elizabeth Short’s murder 9 years after the last body was found in Cleveland. Seems unlikely, given that all the bodies in Cleveland are found headless and decapitation was about the only indignity Elizabeth Short was spared. But it does provide a stepping stone through several dismemberment murders of mid-20th century America and makes for an intriguing read.
The PC game The Black Dahlia, does this connection. Tough the game is only very loosly inspired by these murders, the intro is the Boys finding the body on the bank in Cleveland And the name of the game is the nickname of Elisabeth Short. It's an old game now, but I remember how thrilling it was playing it then 🙂
Well, actually, the last murder attributed to The Butcher occured in 1950... At least the local newspapers thought so. Whether or not it was true is debatable.

Little ashamed, born and raised here and never heard of the story. Thank you for the story, horrific tale but I'm a sucker for history. Thanks for letting me know some of my home city's dark past.
Dude, you should be ashamed. Next you'll be saying you never heard of Captain Penny. Yikes! 🤣
Your accent and delivery is top notch. I could listen to this kind of stuff all day. 👍
Personally, I suspect that Sweeny was their man. His familial influence was all that really kept him from being pegged for sure.
The Sweenies have always been a bad bunch.
Who knew tom sweeny was a serial killer
The Sweeney name/family didn't save him.He just hid the proof and the prosecution couldn't go ahead on just hunches, suspicions and circumstantial evidence
Yay! As a Clevelander, I'm so excited that you covered this! 😃 Thanks Simon! 💙
🎉hooray🎉
I love the quick video to the 1st section, there is literally one centimetre of blood on the knife... lol

PLEASE....do the Borgia dynasty!!!!
Cesare and Lucretia especially
Yes please!!!!!!
The pope's family?
@@88mphDrBrown - Bingo!
I have no doubt in my mind that we’d get a ‘“legendary” episode if you trace Rodrigo/Alexander VI’s life and ascension......including the impact Cesare, Juan, Lucretia (and the others) had on the church, art, politics, etc.
Your channel is very soothing sir. Never have I been so calm while someone spoke of such heinous actions..
at a time without TV and Internet, the Worlds Fair move was a brilliant idea.
I have been watching your videos non stop for a few days. I have to admit I'm hooked. Such informative topics. I'm sure to become one of your number one fans. Thank you for making these videos.
This is such a gruesome story. I've always thought it would be frightening to find these artifacts.
Learnt more from you then my history teacher in school ❤️ lots of love from india
My dream is to have my own biographic and Simon narrates it
Same.... wait a minute
You just need an axe, go fulfill your dreams.
Or Count Dankula's Mad Lads lmao
Well, then you better get to work. People won't kill themselves, now will they?
Hey Simon, long time Viewer first time Commenter.
I've lived in Cleveland 35 years and I'm just learning about this.
This is why you're my favorite RUclipsr
After knowing about the habsburg jaw, I would like to see an episode on Charles the second of Spain.
I think they have done on on him, I could be wrong tho
What about me Charles I of Spain?
@@TechSupport900 DUDE, I thought you died!!
No I didn’t, I was reincarnated
@@renaissanceredneck73 i think they somewhat covered him in other episodes like Gibraltar because he was the ultimate cause of the war of Spanish Succesion
This seems very solveable, and is loaded with clues imo. Really enjoy how you present your work, very well done ty.
There's no files or information left. It was all destroyed or removed
Serial murderers have fascinated me since college days. I'm a writer, so I snarkily call it research and development, though it more likely fits with my psychological studies. I don't recall ever hearing this much about the Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Run, so thank you for helping me learn about him.
Your videos help get me through the tedious work day
I’ve seen the buzzfeed unsolved video on this, but that doesn’t stop me from watching the Great Simon Whistler, with one of the best beards ever and a voice that is greater then an opera singer.

Thank you teaching me something morbidly new about my city. I always enjoy learning about Cleveland's dark past.

It’s embarrassing that I’ve been a Cleveland native for nearly 40 years and this is the first time I’ve ever heard of this.
you can see the death masks and the postcards at the western reserve historical museum
It is embarrassing. Oh well, it is what it is! 😆
Great video!!! I’m from New Castle PA and it’s crazy that it might have a connection with such a famous serial killer
I also read of that but it does seem far fetched as it doesn’t have any similarities with the cases of the Cleveland Torso Murders.
You need your on television program. I would tune into you daily..You're articulated, knowledged, well prepared and and you grabbed my attention in 1 min! Much success to you.
Okay the masked joker and that creepy laugh freaked me out. I HATE clowns
Um, yeah bc they’re HORRIFYING! I’m a fellow sufferer of coulrophobia. Hey r u more scared of one type of scary-ass clown than another? Like I’m particularly afraid of the hobo clown (that handkerchief on a long stick thing? They stole children’s smiles & carry them in there. I know this. I FEEL this😬) ooo...and John Wayne Gacy’s clown “Pogo”! Terrifying. [violently shudders] 👀 ... I’m never gonna sleep now.
We just chase you to give you a hug. We laugh to make you laugh. Who wouldn't want to be woken up by a clown laughing in their face. Clown need love too.
the dude Nope! I hate u, dude. Sorry.😉
May I ask which feature of a clown triggers the panic? I am not coulrophobic, but curious what are the triggers for this phobia
@@reverendharrypowell2390 I have a guess on this. I think its the features being obscured partially, but also some clown makeup seems to slightly resemble a predatory animal which sets off a instinctual fear response. Or for some, perhaps a traumatic early life event involving a clown or someone in heavy face paint. Hope that helps 😊
I don’t know what is your voice but it is unique and never gets boring
hey I remember this case from Unsolved! Thanks Simon
I’m a Clevelander and a fan. You nailed this episode! Thanks!
I'm from Cleveland and this case has intrigued me for years. Some say the Torso Killer might have killed the Black Dahlia as well as the victims in New Castle, PA but, that's just a theory.
I've been patiently waiting for a casual criminalist video on this
What the heck is wrong with Cleveland? So many serial killers from that area! The water??
Another reason why it’s called “The Mistake By The Lake.”
Didn’t the river light on fire once
Not much else to do in Cleveland.
lake erie thats what
Trevor Dillon, yes. You should watch the Cleveland Tourism Videos for more information.
This video made me feel comfortable and happy in a way I don't think I've felt in over a year. Thank you. ❤
They should do that ancestry DNA and try to find out who those victims are. I mean, if they have DNA to get a profile from.
I know this is a bit old, but I SERIOUSLY doubt they have DNA. They didn't even think about gathering it until the 80's. I'm pretty sure there's nothing left of the bodies by this point.
@@Sparrow-lh9qk
Some of them have graves in the Potter’s field.
It's now happening. The DNA Doe Project.
I'm psyched that you did this one. Good job on pronouncing Cuyahoga.
Oh and the original death mask of the tattooed man and reconstruction of the other victims, along with various original documents can all be seen at the 1st District/police headquarters at the Justice Center in downtown Cleveland. It's fascinating. I've seen it several times. Yes, I'm a lifelong, born & bred Clevelander. I love MY TOWN (other Clevelanders will surely get that reference).
I thought the 1st District was the far west side, with their station over there on West 130th. Did something change since I moved away ten years ago?
Hello From Cleveland, Ohio so awesome you did some Cleveland history. The Torso Killer so crazy!!
I’ve lived near Cleveland all my life and I drive past that area all the time and I’ve never heard of this once until now omgggggg 😳
Hello from Cleveland! Love all your channels.
I have family in Cleveland, including my dad. We've discussed the torso murders once or twice, though I'm probably the only one who does it with any enthusiasm.
Please do videos on the following people:
1. Ruth Bader Ginsburg
2. Dennis Rader
3. Jack London
4. Upton Sinclair
5. Jack Ketchum
6. Jane Austen
7. Anton LaVey
8. Annaliese Michel
definitely dennis rader!!! he was the definition of the normal family guy that had very dark secrets and desires.
I'm from Akron, I've never heard of the torso murders.
Going to go visit this site around old Jefferson Bridge. We live close by...
RBJ doesn't deserve a biographics video.
Also Thomas Sowell!
Cool topic. Great format. Great explanations of the current situation as context.
1:00 - Chapter 1 - First victims
6:50 - Chapter 2 - One killer to slay them all
9:05 - Chapter 3 - Eliot ness enter the fray
13:20 - Chapter 4 - No stopping the butcher
15:25 - Chapter 5 - Who was the mad butcher ?
Finally a vid about this killer. Never understood how unfamous this case was giving that the murderer in this case is one of the most horrific I have ever read about
Cleveland has a lot of contenders for "most notorious killer"....🤔
Yeah Cleveland and California seem to have to absolute most serial killers
I'd say pollution or alcoholism
Excellent!! I’m a Clevelander and appreciate the attention to detail.
I was told that my great great aunt found the body in Lake Erie. She never recovered from the trauma of finding that and became an alcoholic.
I did enjoy that video and I would very much enjoy a series on "unknown" serial killers. Maybe ones that aren't quite so well known or high profile.
Allegedly '80s band called "Destruction" revived the memory of him as well..
It's my birthday and Biographics came through with a really creepy story! Excellent!
Happy birthday.
@Jason Bouphasavanh HAHAHA!!! Close. 53
"Jackass hill"
Kings Run & Jackass Hill- I thought I had been everywhere in Cleveland over the past 50 years but I've never heard of either of these places before. Did they get erased by the freeway system or what?
OK I Googled Kingsbury Run and it turns out I have been there a few times. Never heard that name until a few minutes ago.
I would have become a town planner if I'm allowed to name stuff in the area. I'd kill for a "jackass hill" in my area 😭

drinking/smoking game: simon just uses stock images to make the video more engaging. most people who watch his channels are used to these kinds of little inconsistencies but i also usually do other stuff while listening to these lol. **take a shot/hit whenever the picture is a loosely related stock picture**
Another great video. Never heard of these killings before. This could be a movie or mini series.
Crazy my children love playing in big creek parkway as did I when I was small never knew
The random cutaways are a nice addition to your videos.
I imagine it's hard to tell fact from fiction with this suggestion, but I would like to see King David.
There's so little evidence that Simon would basically just end up reading the bible.
You have to remember that we can't even prove that Israel was anything but a bronze age tribal village at the time.
The only biblical characters we actually know existed were Jesus of Nazareth (Yeshua) and Paul of Tarsus
Simon, you should do more videos like this one, I really love watching stuff about the prohibition/public enemy era, John Dillinger etc
