I always wonder about the day the resident left for good. Do they know they weren't coming back? Is there no family to inherit? It's like each abandoned property tells its own story
When my mother passed away she left behind 21 acres of land and a mobile home and a car. Due to none of us wanting the mobile home it remains vacant till this day. It's been about 5 years since I have been out there. The last time I was out there I walked in on a guy who had broken into the trailer and was in a room huffing spray paint from a bag. I tackled him and sat on top of him with his hands held behind his back until the police arrived. Afterwards I looked around and realized how much damage had been done from him and who knows who else. The car had parts missing and a window broken out.I knew then that since I lived far away I couldn't come check on the place very often. My sister has put the land up for sale now after talking me into signing my part over to her. I'm sure it will be bought due to it being highway frontage country land. It was hard on me seeing my mother's home violated the way it was. That's why it's for sale now so I don't have to make anymore bad memories of going back there. Today's generation has no respect for other people's belongings and destroy it for the fun of it.
My take on this, from watching your video, is that after the roof got ripped off in the storm, the insurance company gave them a big payout for wind and water damage, etc. They may still own the property, but they've been told to just have it demolished because of the mold. They should get in there and get all those antiques cleaned up. The insurance company won't give a crap.
Whatever the insurance company pays you for the insurance company owns... Everything except the actual home and property, more than likely the insurance company told them they couldn't take any of the belongings and said they were going to recoup their cost by selling the belongings but ended up taking the loss... I know this because it happened to me..
It is so interesting to step into someone else's life for a brief moment but at the same time it is so sad to see all their memories and belongings abandoned and left to decay. I feel bad for this family. Great find, thanks for the explore!
It is sad seeing homes that end up like this, and they not only lost a loved one, then a storm took their home too!! Thank you bigbankz for sharing this home with us. Stay safe and have a good week! 💙
Grief is such a personal thing everyone grieves differently. My dad died 10yrs ago and i still can't bring myself to go back to my hometown let alone his old house.
@@juliearmfield2634 I agree. I guess I'm just the opposite. I've been quite far removed from my parents for decades, so when my mom passed, and my dad couldn't cope, I was ready to get in there and start boxing up and taking her stuff to Goodwill (because otherwise, like the house in this video, that's what would have happened). The sad thing is, it only takes one generation to determine how important your "precious" items are to anyone else. This is why you see so many personal items at thrift stores. My parents have/had a LOT of tchochkes(?) and geegaws throughout their house, some worth money, some only worth sentimentality. But NONE of us "kids" want any of their stuff, except for maybe a few things here and there. My parents and grandparents went through the Depression, where they clung to absolutely EVERYTHING. People abandon houses and belongings for one of two reasons: the families are too poor to deal with what’s left or too rich to deal with what’s left when someone has died. It is sad either way because the abandonment feels like the remnants of grief. I restored my great grandparents’ house after it was abandoned for 10 years following my great grandfather’s death. Many family members didn’t want me to restore it and preferred it continue to cave in because they wanted to remember it how it was, not see it brought back to life. I documented the restoration from before I cleaned it out on my YT page - The Terrell Project

It's always been so odd to me that people would just leave everything behind. Obviously there's a reason, but there's gotta be a whole different story there that caused this to happen. I'm sure they were devastated, so that's no telling what happened. So, so sad.

I understand things being left . Heart break & depression , things being tied up in the courts , family arguing / & at each others throats , not getting help , only being used . You get to the point of not caring about material things and being terribly over whelmed . I have been there myself .
One of my work friends retired from our company ten yeats ago. He joined FEMA and went to Florida back during all of their hurricane stuff some years ago. He got sick, came down with vertigo then cancer. He swears it was from the mess that he worked in at the hurricane sites. Be safe
I recognized the name Bill Cowden right away, he flew with the "Happy Hooligans" 178th fighter squadron in Fargo ND, I remember working with him on several occasions at the Air Guard as a flight equipment technician. He was a good man. Sad to see the memories left behind, very sad.

You did a Great Job, all by yourself
One reason why I am a minimalist, Don't want to leave too much behind for other people to have to deal with.
Wow - I see a lot of things I'd love to have. Sad in the way the house was abandoned
It's always been so odd to me that people would just leave everything behind. Obviously there's a reason, but there's gotta be a whole different story there that caused this to happen. I'm sure they were devastated, so that's no telling what happened. So, so sad.
Whatever the insurance company pays you for the insurance company owns... Everything except the actual home and property, more than likely the insurance company told them they couldn't take any of the belongings and said they were going to recoup their cost by selling the belongings but ended up taking the loss... I know this because it happened to me.
Everything is laid out like that from the insurance adjusters.
I understand things being left . Heart break & depression , things being tied up in the courts , family arguing / & at each others throats , not getting help , only being used . You get to the point of not caring about material things and being terribly over whelmed . I have been there myself .
But no excuse for leaving behind family photos.
One of my work friends retired from our company ten yeats ago. He joined FEMA and went to Florida back during all of their hurricane stuff some years ago. He got sick, came down with vertigo then cancer. He swears it was from the mess that he worked in at the hurricane sites. Be safe
Thank you😊
I recognized the name Bill Cowden right away, he flew with the "Happy Hooligans" 178th fighter squadron in Fargo ND, I remember working with him on several occasions at the Air Guard as a flight equipment technician. He was a good man. Sad to see the memories left behind, very sad.
Wow just amazed that cars & houses are just left... just as they are
