- There's vacuum cleaners, Chinese takeaways and fatherly advice abound in the first episode of this very...erm, unique radio show.
For what might be the first time on RUclips, experience one of the holy grails of 1990s radio comedy! (if you're prepared to accept the fact that there's more than one holy grail!)
This is the darkly comical world of Victor Lewis-Smith, from 1990, combining sketches, satirical songs, hoax phone calls and abuse directed at well-known figures of the time, like Esther Rantzen, Lloyd Grossman and The Queen Mother. Oh, and you also get the original Radio 1 jingles by JAM Creative Productions.
At the time that this programme was broadcast, it was considered one of the most dangerous and offensive programmes on Radio 1. Of course, Victor's style of comedy would influence the likes of Chris Morris and Charlie Brooker...but that's another story altogether.
" ive just got to evacuate my vowels " lol, thankyou Victor, You were always an original soul and a true star !
This was brilliant in '90 and still is. RIP, genius
Hilarious! Thanks for all the laughs. Rest in peace, Victor.
All around this time the radio was just bursting with amazing stuff. VLS. Chris Morris. On The Hour. Iannucci. So much truly subversive stuff. Theres just no producer that would be this interesting and broadcast or fund this anymore.
British humour at its absolute best!
Thank you so! I have been looking for these for years!
Hugely influential yet underappreciated (still thats enough about me etc)
This show used to crack me up on a Friday night. I didn’t have any mates you see.
Nothing good goes on outdoors after dark of a Friday.
VLS has shaped my warped sense of humour over the years
Kenny Everett with 'A' levels.
Back when we laughed at what we heard and not what we heard and saw. In the future we'll probably only laugh at we hear, see and smell. That's progress
He sounds so much like Morris here.
Definite similarities in delivery from both. But shouldn't it be more a case of Morris sounds like Smith? As I'm pretty sure Smith was on the air broadcasting way before Morris. On both Radio and TV.
@@cuntchops23 they had a bit of a spat about it IIRC. After Morris admitted the influence of VLS on his work, VLS responded with something along the lines of "I suppose imitation is the sincerest form of being a plagiaristic bastard".
Love it x
Finally, thanks for uploading 👍
Been looking for these for years.
YOU ORDER FOO’, YOU PAY FOR I’!! Classic. Remember this from the first time around. Came across these by accident. Time for a binge!!
RIP
No coasting on this content. 100 mph vls. Forgot about mrs tribley and the whippet
Lewis Smith was always working "against" the bland BBC content. The jokes are superb and timeless. The Office was trash. I hated it. When you compare The Office against the genius of anything by VLS there is no comparison.
Bizarre comparison to make. It’s like saying “I like chocolate trifle but hate romantic comedies”
Victor was the man who reviewed The Office when it first came out and basically said it was utter crap destined to fail.! It reminded me of the Kenneth Williams quote on critics: "I loathe them, they're like the eunuchs in the harem - they're there every night, they see it done every night, but they can't do it themselves."
explain
@@andyscott6315 What part of something that’s so blatantly obviousness did you fail to grasp exactly?
Well, he was half right at least.
He was right, the Office was shit.
Your point is?
People are not ready for this ? There all thick ? 😂
..thicker now since a non-british 'culture took over . . . .
Classic. lol
Could you see this on woke 1 now lol
incredibly dumb comment!
@@barnabas5688 bollocks
it was the references to homo sexuality that were deemed 'incorrect' for todays broadcasting......btw Victor the man is very much alive ...
