Congrats Brad. Have you ever walked into a museum that has Egyptian relics and statues? Many of those treasures are displayed in pieces and put back together like a puzzle. I honestly don't think Brad broke that coin. Yes, he may have nicked 1 piece of it, but the break had to be from a pointed rock setting over the coin when someone stepped on it.

We've all been waiting for the other finds from that day the gold coin was found by Brad. That was a dream spot for sure. British coppers, US coppers, US silvers, Spanish silvers, nickles, Indians and gold oh my. That had to be one of your best days EVER!

He's going to dig something even better in the future, and will approach it a little differently. This was meant to happen this way.
Me and my dad love to see our coins and see if they are valuable. There are times I just want to do it alone but my dad is afraid I will lose the coins so he yells at me

Love the Snap-On coats and hats. Sold Snap-on for 27 years before I retired. Relic hunted Virginia for 40 years before I moved. Found a lot of nice stuff over that time period!!! Started in 1976 !

Amazing! Love metal detecting and have never had such an awesome day like you guys did. Brad, sorry about your gold coin. One of my best finds but disappointed at the recovery was when I probed the ground to center on the target and I scratched the 1903 barber half. The coin was maybe an inch down.

The rivers are the last frontier! Amazing finds all the time if you find the right spot and apparently you did. Had to be a ferry crossing, tavern on the bank, whatever, but it was well used, no telling what's left still in the muck at low tide. Those guys put you on a honey hole for sure! There's no telling who/what/how/when that coin was dropped...but just thinking about 1700's in that area and what it was like...being able to hold that coin knowing that the last person that held it died probably 240 years ago, it's what makes this hobby so freaking addicting! Great video, sorry for your loss...
It's really awesome you guys live in an area with so much history to be pulled from the ground. And it's always awesome that the history is rarely lost on you guys. If you guys pulled each piece from the ground like an archeologist you wouldn't have the time to find 10% of what you are finding now, as a result damage is going to happen. Maybe I've got a sadistic streak, but the drama of watching Brad go from elation in finding that quarter of a gold coin to his misery upon realizing he had smashed a "perfect" 300 year old gold coin was pretty cool. Will Brad forever be contented with the find of a lifetime or forever haunted by how that find was scarred. You guys are the best and I really think Brad should look at the bright side. It was a late night find, had he took the time to carefully excavate all of his earlier finds he would have never even have found the gold. Keep it up!!! Love you guys.
