Good video however if I may suggest two small improvements, 1, always drill two small holes in each end of the crack to ensure the crack doesn't continue to run after the repair is complete. 2, Always put a layer of wet resin down first and then position the fiberglass patch to ensure it doesn't move then wet layer on top of the patch.
Nice video, thanks for sharing this method. I hate to throw things away and it's so nice for people to take time to share how to repair items rather than discard them.
Thanks for the video! I had great success with the fiberglass repair of my hardshell case. My "learning curve", was that in paying attention inside the case to make sure that the fiberglass cloth was soaked with resin and bubble free, I neglected to line up the break on the outside of the case. Oops. It was not horrible but it did require some mending. I used a dremel to smooth the edges of the crack, then used a clear drying Gorilla Glue to fill in that defect. Overall, I am pleased but, will know better next time.
Rimowa told me they could not fix my (stupidly expensive) case today. I'm so glad i came across your vid! Your clear instructions and demo helped me a tonne and I've had a 'crack' at fixing my case. Just hope I've used enough fiberglass to cope with the overly heavy handed bag handlers. Cheers 🍻
Guys, I went ahead and fibreglassed around a cracked wheel, outside and also inside (had to cut some material back). It worked real well. Just travelled to 2 countries and still solid. So much that another wheel fell off with the airport abuse. So definitely recommend doing it around wheel supports.
Thank you for such clear direction and some of the comments that sided with a better application. I'm going to try this on my Delsey Chatelet that got two big cracks on my recent trip to Morocco via Turkish Airline which they refused to compensate me for so this is my way of saving money
Excellent video. My nephew borrowed my Antler suitcase and returned it cracked. The damage is around one of the wheels; do you think this repair would last at that location? And where do you buy the repair products shown? I’m in Canada.
You can apply fibreglass to the outside of the crack after sanding the reason I didn't as it looks unsightly. If you are going to apply it to the outside I would get some pigment the same color as your luggage to dye the resin. It doesn't need to be a commercial dye there are cheaper solutions as shown in my other video here ruclips.net/video/8a4VfJGist4/видео.html
@@brieftodo Excellent video,Can i use same method if there's a longish cut right through the outer shell, how can I make sure it stay put and doesn't split after a while?
I really like this fix and I need to repair a similar crack... In fact it's worse. But I'm wondering about residual odour and if that would be a bit intense when closed and full of clothes?
Hello! I'm new to working with fiberglass. I've heard it can irritate the skin. Is it dangerous to put fibreglass on luggage due to potential skin irritation?"
Thank you for sharing the very clearly explained method of fixing a crack on luggage. What is the product you used? What do I look for when I go buy it? And where? Any help in this direction is appreciated.
Just today I gave away a “VIP” (brand) full size valise to Goodwill with a badly cracked outer shell but otherwise in good shape. (don’t worry I told them about the damage) But it wasn’t just cracked, a piece of the shell was missing. Your video was great, but it does not say anything about replacing missing shell material (abt 1 square inch(6.452 sq cm). Is replacing lost fiberglass material doable, or should one just throw out the bag in that case? Also, that outer shell was so thin. I don’t see how it could possibly survive even one flight.
What is fluid ounces ? Where I can purchase Kindly suggest me name of items which I should mix-up with each other.where I can get such items kindly suggest another name of items
Maybe try googling “Airlines with careful coach class baggage handlers” (my money says PROBABLY not a problem with first class luggage)… But even if you do find one, their on time departure and arrival record will probably suffer for it. I don’t think such an animal exists! I think the inside dirty little secret is that airlines simply say “let the nosebleed section passengers find new cheap luggage with every flight being they don’t fly very often anyway.”
Any hardware store will have the fiberglass and resin. The resin will come with the catalyst and instructions for mixing it. The fiberglass comes in woven cloth sheets or mat which is what he used in this video.

This is the best and most effective long lasting repair that is well presented and explained.

Me 2...with large cracked. Im stop buyg stupid remova...mine is cabin bag not even chk in
Best repair on RUclips. I initially thought of using fiberglass but was concerned the resin would melt the plastic. I see it does not. Thanks.
Can this be used in the corner areas around the wheel area effectively?
Came here to ask that as well
@@allanr9163did you try it? I need this too
Me too
I want to know that too.

This was so useful! Managed to fix a nasty crack around the edge of my hardcase! Thanks for this video!
Super useful! I really didn't think there was anything I could do to fix it, so glad I stumbled across this video. Thank you so much!
Glad it helped!
Does anyone know if Home Depot or Lowes have the material used in this great video ??
Thanks
Do you have any links for the products you used? Also, is there a way to reinforce the crack on the outside too, or is that unnecessary?
Just search fibreglass repair kit on Google.
Very helpful, simple and easy! Thank you for sharing
Just got a crack & you’ve got the solution, thanks
Just wondering if you can post a link to the fiberglass kit that you use?
Great video. What is the product name you used for the repair please.
What is the difference between fiberglass matt and cloth, Which is better for luggage repair.
Wonderful. I have cracks in the exact same spots you did. Design flaw? Anyway, thanks for sharing this!
Which kit did you use?
Can this be used as a preventative option.? Thanks in advance
Great video! Can you tell me what resin and fibreglass to buy? Can I get it on amazon?

What about epoxy resin with the fiberglass or with out
Perfect instructions!
Thanks🎉
I have a descent 90% ABS plastic and 10% AS plastic suitcase , do you thing this stuff will bond well with it?
Thanks...tried and it works fine...Just wondered if I could use this on the outside, where the unsightly crack is?

Will be trying this fix. Thanks
Would epoxy resin work as well instead of fiberglass resin?
The fibreglass and resin combined give strength and flexibility, resin alone is far more likely to crack when flexed in transit.

Will give it a try. Thank you for the video!
Good video. Tell me how tick was the resin after mixed. Was it like honey or something like motor oil?
I need to do this on my luggage also

There is no residual odour
Thank you!!
Hello! I'm new to working with fiberglass. I've heard it can irritate the skin. Is it dangerous to put fibreglass on luggage due to potential skin irritation?"
It shouldn't irritate when dry but you can apply top coat fibreglass paint on top of the dried fibreglass if you prefer.
Thanks RUclips recommender, I think I’ll just do this over top my desperate glue job to strengthen it.
Go for it!
Very useful. Thanks

Hello! Would this work if my crack is at the wheel?
No wheels are normally made in some type of injection mold, you are better off buying a new or used compatible wheel.
Super sir thanks
