I had the first HoloLens and it was amazing what it could do even when it was 4 or 5 years older than most of the other tech that was out. It was still Head and shoulders above most everything in some areas. Was thinking about purchasing the second version but was holding out for something that was more a consumer level adaptation. In many industrial use cases, you're not even allowed to impair the employee field of view for safety, like a surgeon operating or a utility technician making repairs in a power pole, so the Apple Vision is a no go from the start. They definitively serve different purposes.... but my guess is that if Microsoft could get away with not making the hardware and just selling the software that runs the business applications, they would probably ditch the Hololens as the hardware is less profitable.

HoloLens is/was really forward looking. Indeed, HoloLens was marketed only for Pro users - unlike the Apple Vision Pro (can you actually release a consumer device for 3.5k and get away with it? :)).
However, I think the projection technology has failed HoloLens. While it allows the HoloLens to get away without the advanced see-through cameras, it has two major problems: (1) half the field view of what the Vision Pro has, and (2) not-so-great contrast especially in bright environments. These limitations change the experience significantly. I really wish Microsoft continued their development for HoloLens.

VR could be my next PC if: it was within 2000euro, full dive...VR but also AR option, with hi res screens, powerful computing or additional external source(virtual or real computer), if it could be used to play games, use it as a camera phone... for that money it should be possible.
No need for ultra precision, as long as basics work.

I just find it incredible that they managed to make something so expensive look so cheap.
They literally took their most cutting edge processor and display technology and reduced it to a gimmick.

The irony of the Microsoft + Google creation of AR headsets is, their hardware is always way ahead of its time to the point where they do R&D for Apple. Apple takes the work, turns it into an ecosystem, then it all gets released to the masses.
Now as for the big-ass table, that could've totally turned into a futuristic Holodeck.

I remember reading somewhere that Bill Gates was trying to sell the idea of a keyboard-less tablet to IBM back in the 90s but he failed because nobody believed anyone would want a portable PC without a keyboard. But then the iPad rocket sold some years later. I guess maybe MS is just too far ahead of time that people are never ready for their visionary ideas. 😅

Timing really has been a bitch for for Microsoft. But that too is part of the equation for a successful product launch to the masses. Have you forgotten about windows xp tablet edition? I wanted one of those motion computing m1400 tablets they used on Stargate Atlantis. They looked so cool and futuristic. It even had a fingerprint reader back in 2004. The concept was great but the tech wasn't there yet. The cpu power, the battery life, mechanical drives plus those things started at 2000 usd. That's 3250 usd in today's money.

Microsoft’s Big Add table isn’t that bad either, least you can see through and control with your eyes, comes with a battery attached at the back of the set so you don’t have to carry it around. Basically everything the Vision Pro does

It is better. If I did not need a software development team to create software for me to use with it, I would be considering it even if the windows don't sit exactly still without an in-depth understanding of game programming.

Capability angle, I feel Hololens got their hardware much better. Forcing windows 8 tiles on it ruined it. Latest Windows for ARM UI could look much better. I hope hololens team is still well funded.
