As a fan of him for almost a decade, I think New York was just wrong for Deron Williams. He's not a leader cuz he doesn't communicate well with others and he can't do well under pressure. He was asked once who is his best friend in the NBA. He took a long pause and couldn't find an answer. To me, he was the only player that I really liked and I am sad that his career ends this way. But I am happy for him as a person cuz he stays home, plays golf with Ray Allen and Jason Kidd and I feel like he's happy. Also for people who don't know. Deron Williams and his wife established a foundation called Point of Hope since 2007 to support Autism after his adopted-son was diagnosed which I think is really cool.
He's a nice guy, and maybe NBA was never for him, even though he still gets $5.4M a year from Nets...LMAO

As an Illinois fan, I watched all of Deron's college career in addition to his NBA career.
The dude was a great leader, was clutch, was sneaky quick, and was exceptionally strong for a PG. He was also one of the smartest players I've ever seen in college.
It appears that things got to his head and he had a furious temper.
IMO, he was better than Chris Paul for the first few years of his career.

Sometimes I think about that 2017-18 cavs team if every player were in their prime. Lebron leading DWade and IT with Derrick Rose J.R. and Deron Williams Corning off the bench. Yeesh

As you said Andy, a lot of people were comparing D-Will to CP3. I personally started to compare him, in his prime, to John Stockton.

When he wanted to leave Utah, he should have signed with the Mavericks. He made the mistake of chasing the money when Dallas (his hometown) had immense faith in his talent.

He was amazing to watch back in Utah, he just lost his passion overtime. Some players are like that, they get into the NBA, get the fame and the money and their basketball passion gets clouded.. An example of it is Hassan Whiteside recently and Andrew Wiggins

It’s too bad for him he wasn’t smart enough to see what Jerry Sloan could of done & was doing for his career.
He was the reason the HOF HC retired and then Deron asked for a trade anyways and got what he deserved, he got to go from laid back Utah media that loves their only major sports franchise that will look out for their players and instead ended up in the completely opposite media & vibe overall so he got eaten up.
NYC media isn’t going to Baby you and us not trying to hear that BS.
Utah should have got rid of the PG instead of HOF HC Jerry Sloan to begin with but they figured Jerry was retiring soon anyways and Deron was a young star on the team that everyone thought was on his upswing but he was on his way down & out swing.

  • @TheBsheep

Calling him OVERRATED is blasphemous...he was a beast in his early days but he just didn't age well at all. I think he should've never ran Sloan away and stayed in that Utah system...that would've bought him at least 3 -4 more great seasons.

Every time CP3 got hurt, even minor injuries, CP3 requested to rest, but DW kept putting himself on the court to fight, that's why during their early years, DW got the upper hand and higher reputation...
Ironically, when they got older, the result of their early decisions turned out that CP3 gets a longer career than DW, and that's the main reason, not because coach Sloan, that's a totally different story...

That's why you give the super stars the respect for who they are) better than the rest over a period of time at a high level and still dominate is special) very few is the real price of a ticket entertainment) many was call but few was chosen*
