just did this on the wifes 2015 acadia. her's is front wheel drive only. you DONT have to take ANYTHING apart! get the rack loose, push the drivers side in towards the center to give it more room to spin, then turn it ( the same way as in this video - with the input shaft facing the front of the vehicle) then wiggle it out! i just did it, yesterday. i did NOT unhook anything else!
@@josechavez3670 nope. i may have unhooked the swaybar links to get more wiggle room, i don't remember, but it took a bit of wiggling around to find the sweet spot, where it would fit thru, but i did NOT take any frame parts loose.
what are all the tools you used ? do you need that special mini air racket he used in the video or will this bolts 10 mm be removed by a racket how many bolts in total are there to remove ?
great video. this is an extensive job and you did an excellent presentation of the step by step procedures. thanks for taking the time to video and post it.
Thanks for making this video man! I'll be doing this to my vehicle my self in the spring time. I've already been quoted over $2200 for a dealer to do it.
This was a good video. I disagree with a couple things like the sway bar link removal and the exhaust removal. I just did one yesterday without doing those two. Dropping the one end of the subgrame is a must though. Also remove the one end of the hydraulic line on top. And it will alide right out.
Good stuff here! Helped me out tremendously! Thanks for taking the time to share this information for us do it yourselfers! Its people like you that make my dealership free lifestyle possible lol
I'm getting ready to do one front wheel drive only. Looks a lot more spacious than they let on in these videos. Im going to see if i can do like the one guys said and just unhook the hydro lines and pull it out.
What were the symptoms that led you to finding out the rack was bad? My 14' acadia just started handling weird yesterday and I noticed with the steering wheel straight that one wheel is straight and the other is toed out about 2 inches...would that be a bad rack inner tie rod ends? I don't have a garage and it's currently -8 outside...thanks
My 2009 saturn outlook has a really bad leaking rack and pinion ……Would this be the same process for an all wheel drive or do i need to remove the drive shaft also ? Thanks in advance and awesome video .
Thanks for the reply i truly appreciate your effort in making this video and i just did the rack and pinion job on the 2009 outlook exactly as you did in the video and went pretty smooth thanks to you and your video ! Greatly appreciate it !
Oh one more thing if anyone knows what the torque specs for all the subframe bolts are i would appreciate it if you can share that information as im having a heck of a time finding this information online and thank you in advance !

I was looking for a video hoping to do this job in my driveway. I can't drop the frame at home. Do you drop it for easier access or because it's necessary to remove the rack? Great video btw
It's the only way that you going to get that rack out, you may be able to put some jack stands under the body close to the front doors. Then use a floor jack to lower the frame
Those steps are exactly what I have been searching for on you tube. Awesome thank you

Just look where the steering shaft is bolts to the steering gear, the 1 with the angel sensor will have a plug on it.
@@tommytarver3060 very helpful, ty Sir
Thank you for the video! Does GM recommend using Dextron 6 instead of power steering fluid?
Yes
Hi can anyone tell What's the difference between dextron and power stering fluid im currently working on this issue thank's
Much easier to bleed the air out of it for 1
Was this ALL WHEEL Drive? I heard for all wheel drive you need to remove driveshaft?

Or how much do you charge me to do my 2007 Mac Acadia
Can the rack and pinion cause bad vehicle vibration? I can jack up either side and wiggle each wheel a good half inch.
check the motor mounts
check tie rod ends, ball joints, control arms, or wheel bearing
Very unclear what your saying half the time
When he says I always do. You know GM has a reliability problem..
Could of made your life easier by removing the exhaust all the way
