Shurangama Mantra in Sanskrit (Original Chanter)
About this Stone Sutra:
1. Stathāgata-uṣṅiṣaṃ Sitātapatraṃ Aparājitaṃ Pratyaṅgiraṃ Dhāraṇī This latest standardized edition of the Dharani was taken from the Stone Scriptures of Fangshan, and reconstructed to its original ancient Sanskrit pronunciation using romanised Sanskrit. Esoteric terms (like those used in mantras) are not translatable. Instead, they are transliterated to preserve the sound of their original language. In ancient China, dhāraṇī-s were transliterated from Sanskrit based on the Chinese spoken at the time, i.e. during the Tang and Song periods. When these dhāraṇī-s are read using modern-day spoken Mandarin (Putong hua), the sound produced is different from the original intended sound due to the fact that modern-day spoken Mandarin is derived from the Northern Chinese dialect spoken in the imperial courts of the Qing Dynasty and not from ancient Chinese of the Tang and Song periods. The outcome would have been inconsistent with the objective of transliteration and is not in accord with Great Master Xuan Zhuang’s guidelines on translation.
2. By reconstructing the text with romanized Sanskrit, we have restored the sounds of the mantra back to its original Sanskrit pronunciation without compromising on Great Master Xuan Zhuang’s guideline of not translating esoteric terms.
3. In addition, in order to prevent missing phonetic effects during chanting, the “o” sound has been split into the original form “a-u” before Sandhi contraction to be consistent with the translation practice adopted for other sutras. This is done so because when “a-u” are chanted at a fast speed, the effect of Sandhi-ed “o” could still be sounded as desired. Hence, splitting “o” to “a-u” was in accordance with other Sutra texts which should not pose aby technical problem in the Sanskrit pronunciation.
4. There are instances where the Sanskrit-chinese pairings in the Fangshan stone inscription were not standardized, in which cases, the reconstruction using romanised Sanskrit could not fully comply with today’s Sanskrit grammar and phonetic rules. We seek your forbearance on this. This standardized edition has also eliminated omissions found in earlier versions circulated since the Song & Yuan Dynasties.

Before you eat, recite this mantra first : "om anale anale visyade visyade vira vajra dhare bandha bandhani, vajrapani phat, hum, trum, phat, svaha".
Master Hsuan Hua said it will protect you from meals which are tainted with black magic.
That mantra is a part of chapter 5 from Surangama Mantra.
Because I'm a funeral director. I do recite that everyday at work for my own protection and peace to all of my surrounding. And you can tell there's a huge difference naturally. 🙏
What do the other assemblies mean? Where do I find what each section has meaning for?
@@Me-xd7bd Study the sanskrit words and the meaning comes out. To the best of my knowledge there is no in depth discussion of this mantra in English and it's meanings are multiple and deeply layered. I am in the process of studying it myself, but the process is slow with young children now in my house.
Yes it's the Shurangama Heart Mantra, in the 5th assembly. Normally people chant the whole long mantra and then 108 times of Shurangama heart Mantra.
@@Me-xd7bd it's Buddhist mantras which have meaning can't be described in words. Master Hua said if anyone chants this mantra regularly they will be protected by one Diamond Protector Bodhisattva, who is very strong and powerful.
I am listening this pious mantra minimum once a day, it provided mental solace, clarity of thought and provided the ability to assess the thoughts of people who interact with me
Very good mantra to ward off evil spirits according to Buddhist teaching. As long as one person is reciting it, Buddhism will continue on this earth; thus, the Shurangama mantra recital is a daily practice in many of the temples.
Personally, I’m going on ~ 4 months of daily recitals. Have tried to learn the Chinese version on and off since my early 20’s. However, it has been a challenge to just follow along. This version is the only one that was easy for me to follow along. I’m very thankful for this upload. It allows me to incorporate it into my daily prayers.
This version is special to me as it’s been the only one I’ve been able to follow along. I’m devoted to learn it by heart, however long it might take. If I’m able to follow along, I have faith I will learn it by heart one day. It’s not a race for me, rather, the intention behind this practice. Through my searches on the internet, I found a English interpretation of this mantra. See below link. Hope it helps those who wants to find the meaning of this chant.
Namaste!

14 days to memorize the whole mantra: 4 days to memorize the 1st chapter, 2 days to memorize the 2nd chapter, 2 days to memorize the 3rd chapter, 2 days to memorize the 4th chapter. 3 days to memorize the 5th chapter, 1 day to calm down and recite them over and over again.
Good luck.

Thank you very much for this version of the Shurangama Mantra in Sanskrit. It has a nice rhythm to it like singing a song which will make it a lot more easier to memorize than the version by Brother C. K. Chen. Although both versions are highly appreciated. When ever i am in worries or are in pain from a medication. After i listen to this Dharani, it helps relieve that pain or worries very much. And am very glad my body tells me that i am in pain after taking a medication for a period of time. It is basically warning me to stop taking those medication. It is a slow poison that will slowly destroy many cells and organs within my body.
Hi Infinite Being, thanks for your kind compliments and appreciation on our version of Shurangama Mantra in Sanskrit. In fact, Brother K. C. Chen was the lay name of Venerable Acharya Hong Bok @ Vajirananda before he renounced as a Buddhist monk. Both of them are the same person. Glad that you have good affinity to Venerable. Look forward to receiving more comments from you. Thank you. Have a good day ahead. Wishing you always in a pink of health.

Can someone clarify below which one is correct?
1. Aṣṭā-viṃśatināṃ nakśatrāṇāṃ pra-sādana-karīṃ.
or
2. Aṣṭā-viṃśatināṃ nakśatrāṇāṃ vi-dhvaṃsana-karīṃ.
And there is another similar sentence later in the mantra (second assembly): "Aṣṭā-viṃśatīnāṃ nakṣatrānāṃ pra-sādana-kara hūṃ trūṃ."
From here, it looks it should be #1.
But #1 and #2 have totally different and even opposite meanings. "pra-sādana" means bringing peace or favor, while "vi-dhvaṃsana" means destroying or annihilating. And if we look at the sentence before and after it, both means a powerful entity who has the ability to cause the destruction or annihilation of planets. So in this context, it looks #2 is correct.

May i know when is the best time to chant this ? Can this mantra be played in the car while driving long distance ? Tq 19:26
When you feel the need for protection from evil or negative vibes, chant, read or listen attentively to this mantra. It will protect you because this is the most powerful Buddhist mantra and it should deserve your utmost respect. It means don't ask for things like winning the lottery, getting the love of someone, acing an interview for a job.......you get my point. This mantra deals with more serious things such as protection from black magic, evil spells, negative influence of love potion or charm.......You can listen to this mantra in the car during long trip with pure respect during its half hour duration. No eating, snacking , drinking, phoning... just pure attention to the mantra. If you are having problems with the issues mentioned above , only your faith can really save you. Every religion has its own way to deal with it and for Buddhist people, this is the mantra we use. You can contact any temple in your area for more details and info on this. Don't listen to people who ask you to pay a lot money for "chasing evil influences" The Buddhas of the Universe are giving us this precious mantra out of compassion and at no cost. The only requirements are utmost respect and faith when you chant or listen to it. At the beginning of the session always mention your name, DOB, place of residence and REASON WHY YOU ARE ASKING FOR PROTECTION. Express your gratitude to the Buddhas of the Universe. I hope sharing this may help you at the right time of your life. And please share this so other people in need may benefit from it. Be selective though, spirituality or paranormal events may raise controversial gossip and disrespectful comments towards the Buddhas which is something we want to avoid. Good luck and have faith in the mantra, it works wonder .
P.S I myself have greatly benefited from this mantra, through this channel since I listen to it almost every night before sleep. And also whenever I want to clear my room of any heavy or negative energy. I plan later to send some donation to this particular channel of Buddhist teaching. They never ask for anything, it's just me wanting to express some gratitude.
Yes, I listen to mantras while I'm driving long distances in the car. Be careful to stay mindful of the road and mindful of your driving if you are also learning/reciting the mantra however. It does take some amount of attention to learn and recite, so do keep focused on driving as your first priority.

Master hsuan hua said we should chant shurangama mantra while visualizing its sanskrit characters in mind. However, I only managed to memorize it in romanized Sanskrit. Is it okay? Or not enough if the purpose is to help avoiding the demons from arising on earth?
He possibly had Siddam script in mind.
Master Hsuan Hua was using Rañjanā (Lantsa) characters. Shingon Esoteric Vajrayana (T'ang Mi) has been using Siddham characters for visualisation practices.
Don't worry about demons arising on the earth, that is not your responsibility. Just tame the demons in your own life and keep more from arising. You will be miles ahead of whee you started.
I have a glass of water which has Pali words of Shurangama heart mantra on it. I often chant into the water the full mantra and 108 times of heart mantra (in the 5th assembly second last sentence), and write by hand the Pali words on the glass too. it's super powerful.
Anyone can tell me where can I find the version at the very start of this video?
Edit: I want to find the full version of 0:00 - 0:19

I'm also interested to hear the full version of the intro which @stevenkanmagic asked about.
Thanks for posting an alternative @netbat4399, however it's not the one that was asked about.
Can I recite this mantra together with Kali mantra?
🙏🙏🙏
This Sanskrit version adds alot more lines, and missing 2 front homage lines. Anyone to contact to discuss the differences? The romanized additions do make sense though (like homage to Anagamins).. not sure why Chinese version doesn't have those..
I know what you are saying about the homage lines. I have a version from another source that is much different and longer. I would reach out to an Academic resource who specializes in Buddhist Sanskrit tex. The Chinese translated it at least twice and published the Sanskrit text the last one in the last dynasty of China. This mantra has never been popular with the Tibetans. I think it's the various versions. It's in several versions of the Tibetan Canon. Toh and Peking additions. The Nilakanta Maha Karuna Dhaharani and many others were in the Chinese that I mentioned
apparently, this version is the older one translated by Amoghavajra while the most commonly recited version by Chinese Buddhism was translated by an Indian monk named Pramiti - 般剌密諦 which i cannot find much english articles on.
Kya ye pali language me milega
What's the problem with Sanskrit? 😁
@@deepakjoshi823 Because all the original literature of Buddha is in Pali language and Pali language is not more influential than Sanskrit language.
@@sumitgote Doesn't matter! Sanskrit is the parent language of Pali and Prakrit. I can proove it! 😁
@@sumitgote Prakrit isn't a single language but is a group of Later Vedic Sanskrit. Pali is a pre-prakrit language. Even the Ancient Persian language known as "Avesta" belong to the same family of languages. If you listen to Parsi people chanting verses they sounds like Sanskrit. Even modern Persian is quite similar to Sanskrit except the script which Arabs imposed on them after conquest of Persia.
@@deepakjoshi823 😂🤣🤣
Where can we get the romanised version of this one please?
This is romanized, brother. Sanskrit doesn't look like this. 🙏
@defiantclass 😂
Is this the original and most accurate??
Yes

There is no need for religious arrogance from you. If you are a true believer of Jesus and your glorious God, you should then show the basic respect to other religions instead of spamming the comments section with such praises to your god. This is an insult to the Trinity and its sacred teachings.
