You’ll be fine. I did the brutal half a couple of years back as a 50 year old biff. Top tips: lake is cool but not extreme; the ride has plenty of climbs and you’ll do well to have a lightweight road bike with aero bars for comfort and to give your core a break before the run. Use a well-ventilated helmet as the climbs are brutal and slow with very fast descents (I took a tear drop helmet and regretted it); you’ll need good brakes for the descent from pen-y-pas (rim brakes are suitable, but must be in good shape); your body will burn through salt on the run so be equipped for that; expect jelly legs on the descent (I fell); the 3 laps of the lake before the climb is also very hilly so expect fatigue and prepare an extreme nutrition plan; train for hills then train some more!

@@SiGoodchild1 thanks very much, appreciate it. I’m just building a disc brake road bike with clip on bars, I’m planning to use that for this event. Good shout re helmet, I wasn’t sure what to go for

Epic! Look forward to following the journey. I did the Action Medical Research Chase the Sun event in the Lake District a couple of years ago, we finished with a hike up Skiddaw after a ride and canoe. My biggest takeaway from that is plenty of big hills training on foot - those mountains are unrelenting.

Great news. Was a bucket list event for me. Did the half last year. Wanted the full thus year but family and life got in the way. The event and the Brutal events company put on something really special. You wont be disappointed and its by far the hardest event ive done. It tests you physically and mentally and tactically. The motto, all it takes is all youve got, sums it up and it really does live up to it. Have a great day out, i hope the weather is kinder than last year, everyone melted, cant wait to follow. 💪☠️
