Hey! Maybe an idea for a video. A lot of us (i assume, haha) are doing martial arts for fun, as a hobby. And a lot of us are afraid of injuries (minor ones and of course major ones). Can you make a video about that topic? Injuries? Maybe you can talk about the injuries you got from the years of martial arts training and how to prevent them/how to treat them. But, again - it's just an idea off the top of my head!
@PaMuShin Mostly CTE tbh. Have moved up a level in sparring (60-70%) and after sessions can noticeably feel head feeling sluggish. Have some difficutly doing short term recall ie. was programming right after sparring session and was definitely encountering some difficulties with doing more complicated stuff. Sluggishness tapers off after 3-4 hours afterwards, and gone by next morning. I go spar once a week. My biggest fear is mostly, is this kind of head injury likely to accumulate and get worse over time?
@@johnpeng5525 no matter how "light" a punch to the head is it's still a punch to the head and that damage adds up over time, if you feel like your head can't handle as much punches as it used to feel free to take a break
@PaMuShin No, tbh no, just kinda of going off of feel rn. And yeah lol, maybe I should, altho I am probably going to start limiting sparring a bit more now, and also being more defensive focus instead of going idiot ape swinging mode. Tbh tho, it's kinda hard to gauge, cuz the variable of how hard you are getting hit is... Well super variable and varies between fighters alot, so even if I go to a doc, idk how to explain to him lol. I remember once, when it felt like I had obv sustained a minor concussion, that night I went sleep like a rock. Like almost my brain knew it needed sleep for healing. Did you ever have this experience?
I've been watching your sparring videos for as long as I have been training, which hasn't been too long I gotta admit, but it has given me so many ideas of things to try and also how to deal with certain types of fighters during sparring. I've been improving a lot, and that's in part thanks to you!
Yeah he doesn't actually know what the vibe is for it. You don't say it on slips and shit. Dude just wants to be part of the show but has nothing of substance to contribute.
I love that you're always trying new stuff and studying this art, trully beutifull man, I apreciate your content! Even tho you might not be a great name world wide (no ofence intended), you're trully important to the scenario and the development of the sport. Very few chanels share so much sparring footage with no ego involved and a nice breakdown to it, this is a great class for all of us
Fantastic footage and commentary showing the intricacies that would otherwise be missed by us non fighting experts. I could really appreciate the importance of sparing to the on going development of a fighter in terms of putting into practice techniques and tactics without being severely harmed.
wow incredible high-level sparring. This is truly inspiring ... ive been sparring for 2 months now and im completely addicted.. im getting real good at staying at range and picking my shot.. i been told i have very good movement and iam not easy to touch, but when an opponent is cornering me and really get close to me i lose control and have hard time getting out of it.. this is my main goal to work on now.
*Wow Jeff, seeing you spar, gives me confidence I can improve. The challenge is that at our gym, the Instructor doesn't do sparring for beginners, but goes straight into intermediate / advanced when it comes to sparring and it gets overwhelming and instead of focusing on trying things out, I end up evading and defending all the time, sometimes moving away too much.*
This is probably one of the best sparring I’ve seen in your vids. The others here are terrible. He lets you make the contact cause he trusts you. This is the key here.
Returning to sparring today after getting surgery to repair a broken orbital. Going to try to use more of your tools, the long guard, the dart cross, heavy focus on low kicks and evasion to avoid taking damage like I have in the past
Jeff, brother, I need your wisdom! How do you know what to throw!? Whenever I spar, I go blank and randomly through strikes that don't seem to work! Is this just lack of drilling? Keep up the awesome work! Your courses are incredibly priced so when I say that I'm waiting for my paycheck to buy your Head Movement course, it's just cause I'm broke! XD

So I've done Brazilian jiujitsu, but I am just a beginner when it comes to stand up (I know *a little bit* and more grappling than striking). How do I learn to move the way you are moving and throw combinations like you do? Where do I even start? I am familiar with the jab, cross, hook, uppercut, side kick, high kick, knee strike, elbows, etc. But when I try to do even light sparring, I act like a total klutz! Could you recommend instructional materials or videos? Do I practice footwork, hit the bag, lift weights or all of the above? What's a realistic goal for a novice like me?
I would start with footwork and distance management!! And yes basics like the jab cross low kick etc. footwork and distance control is most important with single strikes, then you can slowly up the combinations but even then I don’t throw big combinations unless I rock my opponent or they shell up
I always wonder how you would do in UFC against high-level fighters on the current roster in your weight class? A lot of your sparring is about adaptation and effective counter pressure. We don't typically see that in the UFC; we definitely see it a lot in high-level boxing (likely because they have more rounds to adapt). But given that you seem to have similar rounds as UFC, my mind is now stuck on wondering how that kind of psychological approach would work in the octagon when nerves aren't involved?
hey jeff fan of many years here, I would be a pretty high level amateur mma fighter here in ireland. Just a question for a video idea. Could you do a guide on dealing with very kick heavy opponents. As a smaller fighter i respect opponents kicks a lot. have been finding it hard lately to find consistent solutions to get past these types of fighters. Thank you jeff 🙌🏼
Distance management and catching those kicks! You catch and sweep once, your opponent will def start kicking less. But it’s all dependent on their skill level
amazing content man😍🙏 how do you mixup your strategy according to your opponent? Like what do you look out for to know what to change? And is it an adaptation mid fight or something you pre train for in case you face such opponent?
Thanks man! It can be a mix of everything. Sometimes mid way (if it’s my first time sparring that person), sometimes I have sparred with them a million times so I know what to do and not to do!
Please Can you do a video of transitioning from boxing to mma or boxing for mma. For example things you will need to change like stance etc. this would really help
The tradition of saying "Ouiee" or "Muay" during sparring comes from Muay Thai and is common among Thai Boxers, which DJ and Jeff are both trained in and which DJ's coaches include. You should just think of the sound as a way of applauding a good exchange, application of defense or individual strike. It lets the fighter know what is working. You might see it as annoying but it is a useful training tool. So suck it up.
