So much this. Everyone I've heard has been extremely nice. There is always that one grumpy person that tells everyone they are doing the hobby wrong. And remember, it's a HOBBY. It's meant to be enjoyed and it's a very wide ranging hobby.
Check audio using a SDR. On Nets when asked respond with your call only, wait until the NSC acknowledges you. Treat others like you'd want to be treated.
The kerchunking is frustrating because it always seems to happen after listening for a while as I am about to throw my callsign out there. Not going to do it now because I don’t want everyone to think I was the one kerchunking the machine. 😆
Common courtesy goes a long way in life and on the ham bands. Show respect and don't be a snob. Receive (listen) more than you send (talk.) Welcome newcomers to your group. Don't assume you are the smartest guy on the frequency, but even if you are, there is still lots to learn. Remember that ham radio was created to serve in the public's interest, convenience, and necessity. If you have been a ham for a long time, don't assume that you have nothing to learn from a new ham. If you are a new ham, don't assume that all old timers are stuck in the past.
I live by the call CQ Rule - sometimes I’m the only one calling on 40m amongst the nets though - wish more would. (I called CQ on a repeater as a new ham and someone nice explained why people don’t usually do it)
Unwritten rule - IGNORE THE HAZING and BE KIND!
