Yadin's drop was more critical and he came out well after the spit. Both waves were good but at the most I would say they were even. Either way Mick is the champ and surfed an amazing year. Next year should be even better.
Girls on the Womens Tour can do the bottom turn,roll in barrel move than Fanning got his 9.7 on. Nichols drop was far more critical & difficult. Fanning blew up every time he tried a critical drop.
The 9.7 buzzer beater to win his title was justified & I’m Kelly Slaters biggest fan & wanted nothing more than seeing him get his 12th. Even though its not my desired outcome, I agree with the judges. However I do think the 9.5 at the end of the previous heat against CJ was massively overscored.
I don't know why this is so controversial, from the side this doesn't look anywhere close to the score, from the front it totally does, you rarely see left hand pipe barrels that deep and long, almost a three section barrel.
In no world was Mick’s ride a 9.77 compared to Yadin’s late drop, behind the foam, shouldn’t have made it barrel and surely not a better score than Yadin. Mick’s was a nice ride and one you’d be happy about but Yadin’s was 1-2 points better clearly.

But na I still stick with my original comment, Yadin's barrel actually goes soft and is not as long, Mick's beautiful fade into that longer deeper barrel is a thing of beauty. Not sure if Mick's is actually better though, I think they are comparable. Mick probably get an extra .5 because hes Mick, following a lot more surfing lately unfortunately this is a common theme in scoring, like if you are JJ you get an extra point here and there.
