  • Tales of the Empire has been announced and I think there's a lot to learn from Tales of the Jedi- Barriss and Morgan's stories will potentially reflect Ahsoka and Dooku.

    Do you think Barriss' "final test" might be to kill Luminara? We know the Inquisitorius got her, and while the line is played with a duel happening, that would be very easy to edit. Plus, killing your master is like THE big Dark Side test.

      I like the idea that Luminara plays a role. I would love it if the end of Barriss's story is trying to *save* Luminara, with the obvious dramatic irony that we know it's only going to get them both killed, but it would be a genuinely redemptive *attempt* from Barriss, because I don't think she becomes an Inquisitor. I feel like we'd have seen her in other media depicting them by now if that was the plan for her character.

    In my head, I imagined that Barriss would have been a replacement for Ventress as an apprentice to Dooku. Dooku could have tempted her to join the Dark Side, pointing out flaws he too noticed with the Jedi. And once Dooku was killed, Barriss would have served as a Hand to Sidious himself alongside Mara Jade.
    For Morgan, I imagined she and Merin would have escaped Dathomir during the Massacre and Thrawn would have rescued them. Morgan would have sworn her allegiance to Thrawn while Merin would return to Dathomir. I'm interested to see how close my ideas were. This is awesome!! Can't wait!

    Barriss' story could end here with a redemption and/or death. However, if she doesn't I could see her being a primary antagonist in that rumored Ventress series (which I think is a bit more likely now that Tales isn't focusing on her, and the voice has already teased more)

  • @TheMichaellathrop

    The problem with Ventress and Elsbeth meeting is that Ventress knows that both sides were puppeteered by one person, I have trouble seeing Elsbeth staying loyal to the empire knowing that they are not separate from the separatists and therefore not innocent of the Dathomiry genocide.

    Maybe it'll go the other way ... I mean, what we've seen so far of Morgan I get an overall feeling of a tragic hero rather than a true villain. A big theme of Darth Vader's tragic story is that everything he was tricked into trying to protect, he ended up destroying. But Morgan? She did it all for her people, and as far as we can see so far, she succeeded in her central goal.

    • @shadowtrooper3764
      @shadowtrooper3764 5 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah, but she ruined that first planet we see her on without any regard for its locals. I don't think she'll be a hero in any sense, but I get your point. She'll definitely be a representation of becoming the thing you hate.

    • @IsaacKuo
      @IsaacKuo 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@shadowtrooper3764 I'd say that that just shows how focused her purpose is. She cares about her people and whatever it takes for them, and screw anyone else...
      ...but you have a point. I don't know that Morgan started off that way.
      Maybe in her first story we'll see that she was originally a naive idealist who was trying to help others - not just her own.
      First story chronologically that is. If this is the direction they go in, it would be particularly moving to show her story backwards. That way, we'd only see how far she fell from at the end.

    It wouldn't surprise if they are (or were) planning another Tales series for the "middle-ground" of Jedi and Empire, focusing on Ventress and Baylan. There seems to be plenty of room for connection and contrast there like how they handled Ahsoka and Dooku.

    I feel like your observation about Bariss likely taking a contrasting role to Morgan is a good one- I've been saying for years that it doesn't really add up for Barriss to have become an inquisitor- we've seen *quite a bit* of the Inquisition across different canon media, with so many opportunities for Barriss to show up as one of them, or even just to be featured in the background as a cameo, that I figured she had to have ended up on some sort of different path- that we'd have seen her by now if she became an Inquisitor. It's not like her imprisonment happened IRL after the Imperial Inquisition was created for Rebels or anything- people thought/hoped that 7th Sister was Barriss from the moment we first saw her! But there wasn't any other clear path for her besides execution, and that would be kinda boring.
    Then the trailer drops, and it seems to be pointing towards her as an Inquisitor, and it still feels off, but I didn't realize the obvious answer- She says no. These 3 episodes aren't going be the story of Barriss becoming an Inquisitor, they're the story of Barriss, for all her flaws and failings, *refusing* to be one, and almost certainly dying for it. That feels like a short, but interesting story that does something interesting with the character, and lines up with the fact that we've never seen any sign of her since her trial in The Clone Wars.
    As for Tales of the Jedi Season 2- I would *guess* that this is S2, that we're going to get more "Tales of the X" series in the future, but that S1 won't be the last one titled "Tales of the Jedi", just because there are so many more stories they could tell in that vein. I think they'll come back to it. Though I think we're likely to see a "Tales of the Bounty Hunters" with the confirmed-alive Ventress, before we get back to Tales of the Jedi. She feels like a perfect fit for this sort of vignette anthology series to flesh out her character and what she's doing during the last weeks of the Clone Wars and into the Imperial Era.

    Barriss doing anything other than firmly rejecting the Empire the first chance she gets wouldn't make sense to me. Whether she actively joins the Rebellion after that... I've got not clue. Hopefully she at least gets some therapy.
    I just hope they don't go down the route of 'death = redemption'. SW does that too much IMO. Having Barriss grapple with and take responsibility for her actions would be a much more interesting arc.
