Reeds can be the most frustrating thing about the pipes, both the practice chanter and even more with the full pipes. When a beginner has a reed that only squeals and screeches, they don't know what's wrong and they can't learn, and can't even really practice. I still have trouble with my reeds.
For sure. This is why it’s so important for people just learning to have knowledgeable info to work with. I’ve spent a long of time manipulating reeds and trying to get ones to work that I probably should have tossed. If a reed is good, you typically don’t have to do much manipulation, if at all.
