You are the man. Hate when people abuse a place like that. No respect for the history of that old place or the people that depended on it on a daily basis. Take care my friend and as usual another great job !!
That's the way the world is getting , people don't care about nothing but themselves, then they wonder why pieces get close down , just ask someone who does that and see what kind of response you get . Great job cleaning up and old school cooking god bless you thanks
You're a fellow after my own heart. I hate seeing places trashed and can't understand why people do it. Thanks for the thoughtfulness of cleaning it up. Enjoy your videos. Likem even better now. Its good to leave a place looking better than you found it.
I'm a cub scout den leader and one of our community service projects is to walk around our very small town (300 people) and pick up trash. We do it about 4 times a year and we recently picked up 8 full 13-gallon trash bags full. People have very little pride anymore. This is not the way I was raised. Sheesh. So glad you cleaned up the place. It's a really beautiful area.
I don't know when I was a kid growing up in the early 1960's you saw a lot more trash on the side of the road than you do now. I know I get angry over just seeing one can that is not in the trash bin. Could we do better yeah we always can do better, on the other hand, it's also a good task for the Cub Scouts! Kids don't play outside as much as they did in the past so you can look at it as well some in our little town, sounds like my kind of place are slobs, with some teamwork we can pick up and have fun doing it.
Leave no trace! Pisses me off to see the trash that people leave behind! I always take at least a couple of grocery bags with me when I camp or go exploring. I never bring them home empty....sad! Anyway, what a great find!! Love that spot. You could even camp there overnite or weekend! It would be a great weekend getaway!
That is fine dining right there. That is a nice hearth to do that in. If you can bring things into a camp you can haul it out - don't leave it for others I say.
I grew up in southeast Ohio with places like this all over the place. It always pissed me off when I'd see beer cans, bottles and graffiti all over everything. This video is great and yes, cooking outdoors does make the food taste better! 👍
Lucky enough to have an old similar fireplace and chimney on our property. Never cooked in it. But I’ve always wondered why the fireplace was wide and tall. Now I know. I’ll have to take a couple Dutch ovens and a griddle out there and cook up a meal. Thanks
Another great post brother...Wish I was there...what a cool adventure. Nice of u to clean it up. Some people don't appreciate things, the beauty of nature. Thanks for sharing and for making me hungry!
Awesome video concept! I love thinking about the life before it was ruins, the meals and the stories told around that hearth. I know of a private land homestead fireplace I have access to as well. I've thought about camping out next to as well. You've inspired me to get it done, I'll make a video as well.
I live about 10 minutes from there when I was a kid it used to have an old tin roof on it and looked like an outdoor kitchen probably for the loggers that worked nearby in the late 1800s to around ww2 because that local area was a logging town with a lumber mill a few miles away
That was Cumner Lumber cutting old growth cypress and also a lot of turpentiners cat facing trees. I walked and hunted that area in the early '60s. My brother surveyed Green Swamp, Rich loam etc back in the '70s. He is passed now but lived in San Antonio Fla, other brother in St Joe, sister in Blanton. The land is still beautiful one you get off the roads ans all the new growth. In high school I delivered bottle gas to Lacoochie, Clay Sink, Croom etc out of Western Auto in Dade City.
Both my grandkids are in scouts they learn early leave no trace and the outdoor code so thank you for cleaning that up but them sliders and taters look great thanks again for a good video
It looks peaceful and quiet out there. You're a Good Steward of the Earth. Just imagine the stories of the lives that have crossed this point, if the Old Hearth could talk. Excellent Video. 💯👍👍😎🇺🇸
Wow, that site is an outstanding find. Thanks for putting the time & effort to freshen up the hearth. I've been following your channel for sometime now & not only enjoy your content but your overall efforts to always leave an area better off than you found it. Your love off the outdoors shows. Thanks. Oh, the burgers looked great...
I think it was very interesting that large came out with the black lock. So many disagreements on the antique cast iron forums, it may have put it to bed... I don't follow them anymore but I suspect it did. There was so many similarities when Blacklock went away and Lodge started. That would be an interesting thing for you to talk about during one of your videos. The diehards will say that still not proof LOL
We have a place just like that here in Burlington Ct. Its a beautiful place we hung out there a lot growing up we never left it a mess some would but we always cleaned it up till a crime happened then they tore it down
It's awful that ppl do things like that ,I been a woodsman all my life believe it or not from Massachusetts there are many of us here lol..we have a simple rule here take with you what you brought in thanks for the vids
I bet those old pioneers that built that place never dreamed the Backwoods Gourmet would show up on his heated and air conditioned "horse" and cook a meal up in their fireplace among the ruins of their home and film it with his 4K camera, then post it for the world to watch.👍🏻👍🏻Enjoyed it. That was cool. Also, I'm with you, I just don't understand what's wrong with the slobs that go out and get drunk and trash nice public landmarks like that. They must be some miserable human beings.
That would be awesome. I have had some comments from locals that say that it used to have a tin roof over the area. But, yes I would love to see what it lookied like in the day. Thanks for watching.
The origin of the pan is unknown, but through research in the cast iron community, most agree that is was made by a blacksmith from a mold that was sold by traveling salesmen back in the late 1700's. Thanks for watching and check out the channel page for much more like this.
Wait, you were with WHOSE Coochee? lol Looks freakin' awesome bro' If you can't leave no trace, at least you can leave it better than it was. Thanks for bringin' us along. Happy Thanksgiving my Floridian Brother!!
What I take in, I take out. It's not hard to do. Gee if you are going out take a few trash bags with you and police the place up. I don't drink much so mostly It's water and milk for me and well guess what they still make canteens. I bet that house or what is left of that house can be dated back a good 100 years if not more. I not much for Florida, all I know is the tourist traps, now this part of Florida I could like even thou is a way to flat for me.
It seems that I almost always pack more crap out that I pack in> The ones I hate are those who leave their kids SHITTY diapers thrown around,If I could find them I would return what they left behind!
Lots of owners have closed off areas so beautiful like this on private property because of people that trash! Why?? Makes me angry that especially college kids today have no respect for others property!! Even at public swimming and fishing holes all the trash left for someone else to clean up after them! Disgusting and disappointing ! Have more respect for yourselves and others on your path through life ☮️

Much respect to you for cleaning up like that. Sliders 🍔 looked great 👍.
‘Original Blackstone Grill’. Nice!
Amazing.
Excellent! You are correct sir that for some reason food taste better when cooked outside. That was very nice of you to clean up after idiots as well.

Enjoyed the video. I’m into the cooking with the cast iron.
Good on you!! I was taught to always leave a site cleaner than you found it. Sliders look delicious.
That is fine dining right there. That is a nice hearth to do that in. If you can bring things into a camp you can haul it out - don't leave it for others I say.
Finally found that spot yesterday, will return in a couple weeks to clean up the area and cook on some antique iron

Strong work! That old place deserves respect. Very satisfying to see smoke coming out of that chimney.

That's some mighty fine cooking in a beautiful setting. Thank you for going to all the trouble to make these videos.

That old spider looked right at home. Hope to see more of it in the future. Guessing we might get to see a return trip to this fitting location.

beautiful cast iron sir
I've always loved sliders. The steamed bun and onions can't be beat. That place looks like a place called Chimney Loop in Mio Michigan.

The one thing is that most of the folks that live in Central Florida, are not from Florida, but from the big NE Cities and don't respect anything..

I love your videos. They make me wish I loved the outdoors. I was curious what you are using to set your griddle on top of please?
bad ass

Another excellent video. What is the hole in the middle of the chimney at 3:33?
I think it was an attachment point for some iron hanging device, but not sure.
Latitude and longitude of the old hearth in Richloam??
Are those turkey burgers?
Homemade ground round. Thanks for watching.
Seems to be an error code come up in the link you have for the Seminole swamp seasoning. Did they go out of business?🤔
In our backyard almost! Did ya camp out there?

Just east of the town of Lacoochee, FL Check it out on Google Earth.
What did you do with the old ash?
I removed all of the man made debris and tossed into the woods. Good fertilizer for the trees.
