David I’m an Independent, always have been. I also live in Texas north of Conroe. I’m also a disabled vet and I was raised to love my country. I am totally embarrassed and ashamed of people like these and am beginning to doubt that my service and sacrifice was time well spent knowing this is what I was putting my life on the line for. THIS IS INSANITY! Someone should make a movie of this insanity and call it Zombie Apocalypse or America has been invaded by the Walking Dead

She is only still my friend because I won't let her talk about anything but our families. I have no problem discussing politics, but she goes from 0 to rabid angry in a split second. David, to your question about how to run against such people. The simple answer is you can't. No amount of facts, emotional guilt, personal tragedy, financial ruin, education, intervention or anything else you can think of will sway these people. You just have to accept that these people are out there. They are dangerous, uninformed and vote against their own interests most of the time. They are intellectually lazy, non-curious and religiously indoctrinated individuals. As you know, it's much easier to destroy than to build. People enjoy the explosions and shootings of things and people over building them. It takes years to plan and build, but only seconds to bring it all down. The same with facts and truth. You would need hours and hours to debunk only one paragraph by most conspiracy or religious zealots. It's the same reason news is all about disasters, hardly ever about good things. I'm afraid that these people are stupid, uneducated and proud of it. Individually, sure, ignoring them can be a great way to get them off your own back...
A short-term & slightly more lazy solution that won't truly solve anything.
But in total, and on the long-term?! No, not so much...
Ignoring them then / in that way... doesn't really help matters much, over all.
Not even for the ones that thrive on attention & spotlight.
They'll keep on doing as they intended to do, regardless, and keep on believing what they already want to believe...
And our ignoring of them will ultimately only breed further ignorance, and further grow their ideals, for a number of different reasons.
For instance anyone who is newly-introduced to them or their belief will Less Likely to be privy to public opinion on them/that belief.
Meanwhile if we keep spotlighting them, giving them that attention they desperately crave, they might feel better & more smug or confident but...
That keeps the public eye on them, which allows their opposing party better opportunity to make & maintain better rebuttals to any given point of their discourse.
Have to start coming to the realization that these people are never coming back to reality.

When she said about saving the world, I thought of the right wing article which stated the USA was the only country in the world which is governed by the consent of the people.
They really do think they hold up some sort special beacon to the world, when in reality, the rest of the world look on and sadly shake their heads..
These people need to be stripped from their voting rights. I'm not joking. You have to have some level of understanding of how the world works before you should be able to vote.

It's not only the voters who need some understanding of how the world works (a test?) but also the candidates who run for office (a harder test?) otherwise you get MTG, Boebert.Gaetz,et al.....

Pretty sure at least one of my cousins was at the Jan 6th insurrection. He's why I knew it was going to happen a couple of weeks before, but I didn't believe they would actually be allowed inside and would be stopped way before it got out of hand. If I knew about the planned riot, then law enforcement knew much more about it than I did. I still don't understand why it was allowed to happen.

This is what happens when you cut the funds for mental health. Many of these people would have been institutionalized in the 1900's. Which is exactly where they should be now.
We were warned decades ago what stopping funding for mental health and education would do - This is it! End of experiment!
We need to start funding these things again so we can get back to a halfway normal country again. It'll take many years but we don't have a choice.
