    With so many horse-related acts, I'm always impressed by how willing the horses are to cooperate with each other and with their human partners, and to play their part in the drama.

    • @krisbaker9427
      @krisbaker9427 7 месяцев назад +4

      Sarah really? Horses are hurt if they don’t do what they are commanded. That’s why they cooperate. If you were told to carry something and run, now walk, now run and you didn’t do it correctly and then you were punished with pain, you would cooperate also. They have been through extensive training where some cooperation was rewarded but mostly they learned to avoid pain by submitting (what you call ‘cooperation’).
      Sarah, thanks for showing up and watching this video and thinking the horses and humans were mind melding.

    Not good riding. I'm sure they are capable of better, but are also aware that the average audience member is both easily impressed and can't tell how good/bad their technique is as most ppl don't do trick riding. They are pandering to an audience is what they're actually doing.
    Let's start with the lever bits. Why? There's no need for them especially for trick riding.
    Also there's quite a few places where the rider is not as tight as they should be and it throws the horses off balance. You can see, especially in that black there's a few quite protests on the horse's part. The riders certainly *have* skill. They are just choosing not to exercise those skills to their fullest. Also almost every trick preformed here is pretty basic and some of the first tricks learned in trick riding. Lots of repetition too.
    In comparison to show off some really excellent traditional trick riding. Here's a video of the djigitovka
    ruclips.net/video/knRpvurKuqU/видео.htmlsi=gdPAvPvkpf-r2akx
    Not a single clamped tail or pinned back ears. No protesting from the horse. No lever bits. Bodies remain relaxed and fluid to remain flexible enough to keep the horse balanced but still engaging the muscles to preform properly. Hell, look at 3:34 in the djigitovka video and watch the guy on the grey climb fully down one side of the horse, hang underneath without being kicked by the cantering horse or causing a loss of balance, and climb up the other side. Anytime the riders are qued to change position they can do so immediately without unbalanced themselves or their horses.
    You can see the trust they have between horse and rider when they are waving a flag in their face and the horse doesn't so much as flinch. When they're asked to go over a waving piece of fabric. Even bareback, they obey without question and the riders have tremendous seats.
    Even the flailing around with their weapon serves the purpose of desensitization because they are traditional cavalry horses and they would need to be able to deal with things flying around them, blood and other liquids splashing on them (such as when they cut the water bottles), fire, loud noises (such as the balloon popping). It's all done so they get used to it in a safe environment.

      I'm glad you pointed out the flaws as I felt the same; horrible curb bits when a snaffle would've done, too much side eye and high heads, and general tension in the horses, tricks done on the near side only, etc. I was also pretty underwhelmed and was waiting for them to do something other than bog-standard tricks. Too much time spent galloping around doing nothing but trying to gee the audience up. The riders in your link were far superior, their show was more interesting and skillful, and their horses were more relaxed and balanced.

      @@starscreamofvos Bits are only painful if used incorrectly. Hang a bit in a horses mouth and it creates no pressure until the rein is brought into action. It is too simplistic to say a bit in and of itself is painful. It is the hands on the reins which create the pain.

    A show with animals should be enjoyable for the animals aswell. Tormenting animals for entertainment is not cool.

    These are highly trained stunt riders and horses. I adore horses and am quick to criticise if I see cruelty. Compared to horse racing, showjumping and other horse 'sports' these stunt horses seem to be trained and treated extremely well and are not doing anything unnatural. They're just cantering and galloping. They don't look sweated up. Their heads are up, ears forward, they look at ease and pleased to be working as a team with trusted riders. It takes months, sometimes years to make a film and years to train stunt horses. The saddle does not touch the spine and the tack seems well fitted. I'd far rather watch this than racing or showjumping, both of which should be banned in my opinion. Incidentally, what would be the use of maltreating stunt horses? They cost money and it takes a long time to train them. The wranglers are under strict rules. We've come a very long way since the days of the original Ben -Hur in the 1920s where horses actually died, and the Westerns of the 1950s where horses were roughly thrown to the ground by having their heads yanked round to throw them off balance.

    Why is there literally not one single horse not stressed in these types of shows.... How are we so oblivious to horse behaviour?

    • @payntpot7623
      @payntpot7623 7 месяцев назад

      If you understand horses and can read the signs, they are plain to see here. Individual signs and subtle behaviours of each horse show when and where they are uncomfortable at any point in time. As horsemen, we are not oblivious; unless money comes first, which it does for some at the expense of the horse. Double edged sword, horses are expensive to keep and train so corners get cut and pressure is put on too soon in training. This results in stress.
      Given time and well balanced riders (not here in all cases) they could be trained and made fit enough to enjoy their job. Some do enjoy their work in really good shows. Time is money.....
