Thank you for your comments, whether positive or negative! It's always a pleasure to read them. I just want to add that you have full control over the restoration settings. You can choose to clean your video lightly or go for a deeper restoration, depending on your preference. Whether you want a softer result or an ultra-sharp image, you are the master of the process and the final result! For this restoration example, I’ve set the parameters to the maximum to showcase the full potential of the process. Thank you for your understanding, and feel free to experiment with the settings to suit your needs.
I inherited about 30 Super8 reels some years back. A few years ago, I sent them to a converter in Tennessee . and they sent me fully digitized versions of the recoverable footage. Amazing footage my grandpa shot in (mostly) Daly City, Ca. in the 60's. Your channel encouraged me to get those reels converted. Thank you! (and yes, I've uploaded to my crappy little channel) :)
Great footage! Now just add some sound and you will give NASS a little bit of competition! Looks like you hit the big Six O this year........happy birthday for 60 times around the sun.😄
I guess it's better than nothing. But I prefer the original because it looked more natural. The modified one made the faces look wax-y, almost cartoony on the edges.
The colorization and restoration process, is a process not that far off, from the colorization process used today when taking photos or videos. So discoloration and eroded things; like photos, videos- there's nothing natural about that considering what it was when taken. Maybe, you just like the old decrepit black and white aesthetics. 💯
Hi NASS, Thank you for all your wonderful uploads, you bring back to life many films that may have been lost to the vaults of time, but now they can be seen and enjoyed as they were intended, bringing History to life, Best wishes to yourself, Loved ones, Fellow viewers and a thought too for the Folk in the Films ❤❤❤.
I loved your work for a long time. No restoration can be perfect. But it's really good. If you don't mind me being a bit critical, I have a 55-in TV and still most of the video that you show seems to be pretty small. And the other complaint I have is that the mouse trail is often over the picture. Other than that, I love it!
My family had 8mm videos transferred to VHS in the late 1980s. If I wanted these upscaled and cleaned up, then converted to digital, what would you charge? I believe we have four hours worth, maybe slightly more. Are you in the USA? I’d love to contact you and see what you would charge. Thank you!
All I saw was that those kids looked like they were Not into the home movie thing, how times have changed. 😂 I liked the original better actually, but I still Love your work & always look forward to your videos. 🎥 ❤
It's nice, but nothing like content originally filmed in 4K resolution. I was one of those early Topaz adopters, who quickly became disillusioned by the unrealistic looking output form low quality VHS and 8 mm sources. I got sucked in by the all the AI marketing hype, and spent a fortune in the process. In my opinion, it's going to take many years if not decades before AI, in combination with powerful GPU's, will have the ability to create the missing details in low quality sources, and then upscale into something that looks like it was originally captured in glorious 4K resolution.
Thanks. The AI outcome is amazing. I just wish software licenses weren't so crazy expensive nowadays. When you restore a video like this using AI, do you also still keep the original archive footage?
Looks much better, but I think AI still in it's infancy. Not sure how the AI works, but will be better when it draws from real life data rather then analyzing and adjusting the image against itself. A bit like music samples are applied to enhance old records etc. (something like that ☺️).
I have a old tin can with all my parents reel to reel 8mm movies from when I was a kid in the early 1960s they have been in that can for decades..IM sure they are pretty good for no weather got to them or moisture. how much does it cost to redo them today about?
You footage is in much better shape than the 4 hours of VHS family stuff i have from the late 80s. Its pretty bad in spots. I wonder if it would be worth it to try to clean it up.
I tried doing it your way, The AI programm uses 90% of my CPU and it made my pc fail. So I guess you need at least 8 cores. I7 4th generation with 4ghz and 4 cores doesnt cut it anymore. (Still a cpu from $150,-). Im not upgrading a system that works perfectly, just for upscalling. So wont be able to do this for at least a couple more years.
Looks amazing! I am so excited that you revealed the process! I have tons of Super 8 footage I shot in 60s and 70s of family and friends that I can’t wait to restore. Thank you! Plus I watch all your footage.
It's pretty sweet how you inserted 2 events that are both well known AND politically polarizing. You are an agitprop God. Pat yourself on the back and good luck with your cancerous accelerationism.
weird... All your videos look awesome and they are WAY better than the original footage of course. But for this specific clip, the original is WAY better than the restored one. Objective evaluation, not a matter of preference. Original is better
Thanks for your comment! You can restore it as you shouaité with you settings To achieve a result that suits you! For this video, I used maximum sharpness!

What a pleasure to hear that! Congratulations!
Awesome video's :-)

I agree with you.
Hello, thank you for your comment! You can adjust the restoration settings as you wish! You can do this by not choosing the face enhancement option!

As for me old version looks better! The new one has too much artificial image.
What you do is truly wonderful
thank you very much
You are a national treasure for what you do
Oh Thx!!! ^^
I loved seeing this process we get to see alittle bit of what you do with all the other film restorations. As always I look forward to new uploads

beautiful
Thx!
Nah, original one looks better, "improved" one looks weird and cartoonish.
Exactly. Butchered the original footage into a horrible cartoon. What a shame.
Stabilizing the image is good, but I’m unsure on some of the other improvements
@@RetroFilmRush Stabilizing is fine, but he ruined everything else.
I respect your opinion!
You can adjust the restoration parameters as you wish! You can do this by not choosing to work with extreme sharpness.

It may be worth a try

Can you add Rio de Janeiro from the 1930's pls
yes!
Thank you for sharing your trade with us.

I had a bit of super 8 cine film put onto VHS Years ago, wish I could find a reliable company to transfer onto something more useable / modern
you can find it!

Thanks, I’m sure I could but so worried they would ruin it, it’s only film I have of parents and family

The gpu is very important, but you can also use a CPU just whose processing time is a little longer.
Nice
dunno... think old version looks more natural. After restoration it looks more like a CG.

The huge white background makes this like trying to look into spotlights. Could not make it through the video.
Пройдет ещё 10 лет и будете переделанное видео опять переделывать. Всегда храните оригинал!
I think you need to find better examples to use, this footage does not look to improve the original much
Sharpening process makes them look like clay.
👍👍❤❤👌
I can do it better in After Effects. Without AI. For now...
cool! ^^
Can you help me restore a vintage gay porn video please?
Yes, you can follow the steps
