John's take on young adults "Just hearing themselves play for the first time" (as in not necessarily obnoxious) is such a generous attitude and true in so many ways and we all need to remember how awful we were when we first found the confidence to express ourselves. He used music as a metaphor but it is universal.
11:03 as a long time fan of Conan, I am SO happy to hear that he likes this part of his career better than any other part, because his podcasts I think have been some of his best work. Some of the hardest I've ever laughed in my life have been through this podcast. And he seems so relaxed and happy in this medium.
@@poolhall9632 I think a lot of people think of him as just another pop artist. If you dig deep into his catalog you find he's such a stellar songwriter.
@jooohan I used to go see John in small clubs in Atlanta before the original release of Room for Squares. I think he got a little overwhelmed by the fame and it took him a while to figure out the balance of his overwhelming talent and his ego.
"I am finally at a point where I no longer only want to hear what I think. I now understand the pleasure of seeing myself and my influence reflecting at me through the faces of others."
About 3 months ago I had a thought in my brain. It was "Is Conan still on TV? He isn't. What the hell is he up to?" It led me to this podcast and NOTHING has made me laugh and cheer up like Conan and his Chums doing their thing. This episode has been great really had never heard Mayer speak till now!
Great episode, actually laughed out loud (in public, looking insane) Gourley's slightly sheepish comeback at 2:11 could've been kind of obvious but launched them into a minutes-long riff. Good work all around
6:15 I get the impression that John has that same kernel of unshakeable confidence within himself that Conan mentioned during his Hiking with Kevin episode. He is way too observational throughout the entire interview about what is going on, but Conan meshed really well with him. Great episode.
So true, Spotify just peppers in a few similar songs, but a lot of them are ones I already listen to consistently, made they should have an option that makes it more out of the box or just less popular stufd
Great choice, with Conan doing the slipping-on-nuts performance. OR: A little reunion with Andy Blitz, Brian Stack and Jon Glaser ft John Mayer would also be pretty great
John hit it on the head with the suggested songs on Spotify. I turn that recommendation button OFF. Don’t tell me what you think I wanna hear Spotify!!
why tf is he putting in the same position in life as someone 15 years older than him bruh 😭 you still have a LONG way to go buddy if you don't know it John
While i respect his musicianship, John is such a prime example of how massive insecurity and ego collide to create the insufferable human that needs validation every moment of their life while doing so in a way that makes it seem like they don't want it
This was not a good interview... the whole 1 hour thing is basically a bunch of unnecessary jokes and they didn't really let mayer talk. Whats the point of even having him as a guest if its not gonna be an in depth interview lol.. he didnt ask him anything about the next half of the tour... anything on a new album... anything that would require real deep conversation.. he didnt ask. This was a waste of time... give mayer the chance to talk about real things worth talking about.
When John Mayer talked about the Spotify Algorithm reminds me of the RUclips Ad Algorithm. I keep informing RUclips that the Medicare Ads are either irrelevant or inappropriate (many of them are scam). And yet what Ads do I get - the Medicare Ads that I inform the algorithm are irrelevant or inappropriate. Sometimes multiple Medicare / Medicare Advantage Ads. Several times I got several in a row!!!! Useless.
Boggles my mind at how many PodCasts exists. Everyone, their dog and monkey has a podcast. Hmm... A idea - A new PodCast - A Man, A Dog And A Monkey. Could be called The Captain Bob (Man), Major TBone (Dog) And Professor Darwin (Monkey) PodCast.

one of the funniest shows they've ever had. they should have John on as a regular. starting at 10am.
you mean starting between 10:07-10:11 am? :))
YES

It’s so funny how much John and Conan are both trying to impress each other.. love them
john mayer is actually hilarious god damn
His early live show banter is legendary. "Movie ending phone!"
My favorite bands are the ones that make us laugh between songs.
John Mayer is a crazy successful artist. But I feel that his talent is underrated. Conan thank you for having him on... Love you!
Clapton said "John doesn't know how good he is" - "he has tremendous facility"

@@poolhall9632Yup!!!
I love that Bley is being acknowledged like this (4:55)... I wonder what he was actually at the time...
what
Yep, Aaron is always upbeat. That is absolutely true
Yeah I agree! So glad that Bley is getting recognition for his effusiveness 😊
fr fr
The way he recognizes people’s reactions and body language is amazing. And to give the compliment after noticing is what makes him special
"I am finally at a point where I no longer only want to hear what I think. I now understand the pleasure of seeing myself and my influence reflecting at me through the faces of others."
Bley has been told to shut the F up by Harrison Ford and that he has awesome energy by John Mayor….thats pretty cool 😂😂
I was so happy for him when he got that positive feedback 😂

PLEASE start interviewing people John. Even non-celebrities. THAT is something I would love to listen to. Please consider adding video though.
John Mayer is crazy AF , and insanely funny!! Love this surprise
This is my first time watching a conan podcast and boy is it hilarious. And mayer adds onto it with his comedic side😂😂
Finally Conan catches the Mayer crowd.
His previous interviews on Conan over the years are great too. You have to deep dive but they are worth it! Especially their Lullaby 😂.
the whole podcast is GOLD the epsiodes with just the 3 of them are even better sometimes
Love this series with John- really hope Conan made the appearance on his Sirius channel. Would also love to see Conan and John have a jam session 🫠
Definitely…One of my favorite Conan podcast interviews. I know will rewatch it many times in the future :) 😊
Yes, Conan! Please riff on the guitar with Mayer!
Great episode, actually laughed out loud (in public, looking insane)
Gourley's slightly sheepish comeback at 2:11 could've been kind of obvious but launched them into a minutes-long riff. Good work all around
legendary guest appearance. they are really enjoying themselves!!
i love that George Benson - Give Me the Night is the random example he gave, that song is a bop.
6:15 I get the impression that John has that same kernel of unshakeable confidence within himself that Conan mentioned during his Hiking with Kevin episode. He is way too observational throughout the entire interview about what is going on, but Conan meshed really well with him. Great episode.
I feel like John's "Pearl Jam" joke didn't get enough recognition lol
Explain for me?
@@semanticks I don't know what neuvisean1739 means, but Eddie Vedder's voice does sound like a very long orgasm!
Please explain what you thought he meant by that
Thought the same thing!
Do elaborate
I never cared so much for John Mayer's music but oh man he is such a gem for this podcast appearance
Listened to this episode on Monday but I'm still belly-laughing at each clip that gets posted. So good
Man, I wish this was my group of friends. I need to level up. 😅
Yep, a seriously great episode. I don't know much about his music, but I sure enjoyed this conversation.
You should check it out for sure. The “Where the Light Is” live concert would be a great start for a mix of his songs.
Awesome chemistry in this room, makes me hate my life 😂
Can create chemistry right here dude, who's with me?
9:15 he's talking about "middling"! Just in time for the Curb premiere!!!!
His channel is my favorite on SirusXM! He plays a great mix of various genres from all decades.
I love Bley. I think John wants Conan as his therapist
So true, Spotify just peppers in a few similar songs, but a lot of them are ones I already listen to consistently, made they should have an option that makes it more out of the box or just less popular stufd
This is right up there with your Jeff Goldblum episodes. You should have both of them at the same time!! 😮
Best to ever Do It 💪🏻
What a great guest! Had no idea...well done.
This is the 2nd best performance of John Mayer’s career (after his cover of “We’re The Slipnutz”)
Can he play the slipnuts timeless song?
Great choice, with Conan doing the slipping-on-nuts performance. OR: A little reunion with Andy Blitz, Brian Stack and Jon Glaser ft John Mayer would also be pretty great
Absolute great content
Great interview
Such an awesome show!
I lost count how many times I’ve listened to this segment. I cannot get enough of the stupidly smart side comments everybody makes.
Wait, does XM's stream change based on your timezone? How would "time based" music programming work if not?
this is a great episode😂😂😂
That would be cool, John Mayer meeting up with other comedians or stars in general and play the guitar.
Have you seen his attempt at actual stand up comedy? It’s rough. But he’s in his element when it’s conversational and he can connect with people
Jahn Mayer laughs like Ray Liota
I'm laugh crying. Best episode!!
As a seasoned interviewer, was Conan mimicking his guests posture (palm on cheek) to make him feel (even more) at ease, acclimated?
Which watch is Mayer wearing?
ANY time of day is Tom Waits time!
Exactly! Tom Waits is the best.
Did we just get a Club reference on Conan?!?!
I love Johns Life with John Mayor. I listen all the time! ❤
Conan 💯
Conan: "I would never call back a crass remark, that's just not me" then shoots Sona a look: 1:08
Huge Mayer fan here but good he knows his place when Jeff Beck was in the room 😂
I agree Spotify kept playing the same damn songs over and over. So annoying
You can always tell when someone worked in television, because they always break up the interview in clips instead of just posting the entire podcast.
HALF OF THESE ARE ARTICLES bahahahahahah
These people are as gods, toying with the nature of reality.
John hit it on the head with the suggested songs on Spotify. I turn that recommendation button OFF. Don’t tell me what you think I wanna hear Spotify!!
Did spotify steal this idea with the daylist?
what about Saturday night's party music
DYING🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He looks like Ray Liotta in Goodfellas.
Whoever chooses the thumbnails for these 😂
I think i was brainwashed at a very young age by taylor swift to hate johhn mayer so this is the first time I’m hearing the guy speak
why tf is he putting in the same position in life as someone 15 years older than him bruh 😭 you still have a LONG way to go buddy if you don't know it John
I love John but holy crap does he need so much approval from literally everyone
Yeah I noticed this as well. Goes to show how even people who are insanely talented & have all that success can still be massively insecure.
He had to forgive himself for a lot and he wants that acknowledgment from those around him
When i saw his ad for his new show it was full of BS lol you need to look it up
While i respect his musicianship, John is such a prime example of how massive insecurity and ego collide to create the insufferable human that needs validation every moment of their life while doing so in a way that makes it seem like they don't want it
For whatever reason Conan feels a little self conscious towards the end of the clip.
Jesus christ sona is so damn loud doesnt even need a mic man
I guess I can't expect a musical genius such as John Mayer to know the difference between venomous and poisonous snakes.
are they all stoned?😜
Cannot agree more about all the damn typecast by Netflix, Spotify, you name it. SUPER ANNOYING!!!
🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍
Found the Taylor fan 🤡
When literally everyone tells you a dude is bad, but you still date him 💀
Jaw dropingly egotistical. The most cocky guest Conan’s ever had.

John is such a funny guest... Such a shame his music sucks
There’s something off about Mayer.
I have no idea who this guy is. Delete this episode
John mayonnaise. Dude let it go, your not relevant anymore, just play guitar and be a musician. Gzz
New - The Whatever The Hell I Want To Babble About PodCast.
How about a PodCast about PodCasts.
Gourley could make it, and it would be fabulous! ❤
