My Menopause Journey

  • I had no idea that the feelings I had been experiencing in 2021 were due to the menopause hitting me.
Anxiety, depression, brain fog, aching joints, hot flushes and the inability to cope with everyday life took me close to breaking point.
This was unlike me. I have always been a bubbly, confident person and as a Fitness Coach, I have been the one helping other women feel strong and confident.
It was when I found myself driving down to Bournemouth one morning, but with no idea why, apart to be on my own that I knew I needed to seek help.
After being told by one male doctor that I was probably just tired and being prescribed sleeping tablets that made me feel awful, I eventually saw a female doctor who advised that with all my symptoms, I was probably in the menopause.
Blood tests confirmed this and at last I felt relieved that there was an explanation for how I had been feeling. I wasn't going mad!
if you are struggling right now, do not feel alone. Talk to those close to you and seek advice from you doctor who can give you an overview of medical interventions available.
You can also talk to your local independent health store as they are a great source of advice where you will find practitioners trained in nutrition and lifestyle. They can offer a more holistic approach to help you maintain health and wellbeing.
You can find your nearest at www.findahealthstore.com
I also highly recommend 'The Menopause Journal' by Aimee Benbow, Head Nutritionist at Viridian Nutrition.
This journal gives you the power to take control - tracking your symptoms, diet and lifestyle. Daily journalling will help you get to grips with your physical and emotional symptoms, understand how your diet and lifestyle choices impact on your symptoms, then help you get the right advice you need to ensure you manage your menopause your way.
I am priviledged to have been asked to help contribute towards the journal by giving advice on Strength Training during the menopause as a Menopause Movement Coach myself.

Im 52 started will dizziness and vertigo and nausea and exhausted and anxiety a year ago. Boy it is extremely hard. I wish i could just sleep through this.
I had to quit my job due to fatigue, nausea, dizziness and fear of dying suddenly. Feel like a burden. I went from being dependent, working since age 14 and outgoing always going somewhere. Now i sit in my room, watch tv, feel nausea, worthless, sad, scared, panicked, i watch people out my window going to work, going for walks and just hope those people know how LUCKY they are to do something as simple as hop in their car and drive to the grocery store as i can barley leave the house. Car rides trigger vertigo and nausea and panic.
This has flipped my life upside down and I hope it ends one day and i get me back. I dont know who i am now. 😢

I get these moments of uncontrollable sadness. It's so strange, I know I have no reason to feel like this, but the hormones affecting our brain so much. I'm glad you're feeling better. Stay strong!

those bloody hormones control everything! I had a day last week when I felt completely overwhelmed and in tears most of the day. I woke up feeling absolutely fine the next day. Are you taking anything right now to help? 💜

I know what you mean! I get 3-4 good days, feeling almost normal, and then I get the wave of gloom and doom and overwhelming sadness out of nowhere. As I'm still in perimenopause - I just take higher oestrogen on days when I feel extremely tired, sad or overwhelmed and lower when feeling ok(ish). All we can do is listen to what our bodies tell us and adjust and hope that it gets better. I'm hoping it gets better once I'm on the other side l, I mean when I'm actually in menopause.

I’ve been going through this for a few years (I’m 46). I have a 5 yo that I want to show up for as the best version of myself. Looking at starting HRT to see if that helps. Thanks for sharing your journey🩵

Bodyidentical natural HRT helped me a lot with my anxiety and self-doubt, insomnia, joint pain and many many other smaller issues. I listened to Dr Luise Newson's podcasts which answered all my questions concerning hormones. I had no clue and just thought, I was getting old so quickly (at 53 and still peri...). I could not connect the dots as nobody had ever informed me or talked about menopause (I literally waited for hot flushes or night sweats - the only two of the 34 possible symptoms I did not have 😂! I have an elder sister but we we never talked about that... 🤷🏻‍♀️ I wish I had started HRT 5 years earlier, it would have helped me so much!
Best wishes to you from Germany 🇩🇪💪

@@nicolemerz1731 thank you so much for taking the time to share, Nicole! I’ll check out Dr. Luise Newson and get the ball rolling with my OBGyn in regard to HRT. Wishing you all the best, from California 😊

I hope you are able to start HRT as this definitely helped me in so many ways. I still have struggles with joint pain, brain fog and anxiety from time to time but nothing like it was! Keep me posted on this thread how things are going. x
