1:23 "Saints, before the altar bending, Watching long in hope and fear. Suddenly the Lord descending, In his tеmple shall appear" Lord, yes Jesus! Come quickly! I pray to see that wonderful day!
Angels from the Realms of Glory" is a Christmas carol written by Scottish poet James Montgomery.[sung to the French carol tune "Iris"(Les anges dans nos campagnes, the tune used for "Angels We Have Heard on High")
I really like singing along - David is easy to sing with - Thank you for honoring our Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ and our Beloved Heavenly Father.
+Susan Cluff This is the proper way to celebrate Christmas! These days there is too much materialism and distraction to the true and only meaning of Christmas, ie celebrating the birth of our one True God, Jesus Christ!
It is such a treat to see and hear David Archuleta! His voice is so pure and beautiful! This whole performance is spectacular! I appreciate a true Christmas performance giving glory to Jesus our Lord and Savior!
I have loved the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Music since childhood. That makes it more than 50years It's so uplifting. Thank you for your music ministry GOD BLESS YOU
The words are from 'Angels from the Realms of Glory'. The tune is mostly from Angels We Have Heard on High; that's how Mack Wilberg arranged it. Also, this is only part of the full song, which has all four verses of 'Realms of Glory'. This song was shortened in order to fit within the broadcast time of Music and the Spoken Word, since the whole program has to fit under a half hour.
1 Angels we have heard on high Sweetly singing o’er the plains, And the mountains in reply Echoing their joyous strains. [Chorus] Gloria in excelsis Deo. Gloria in excelsis Deo. 2. Shepherds, why this jubilee? Why your joyous strains prolong? What the gladsome tidings be Which inspire your heav’nly song? Chorus] Gloria in excelsis Deo. Gloria in excelsis Deo. 3. Come to Bethlehem and see Him whose birth the angels sing; Come, adore on bended knee Christ the Lord, the newborn King. Chorus] Gloria in excelsis Deo. Gloria in excelsis Deo.
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (December 15), I filled in at a local Presbyterian Church. I played this as the Hymn of Dedication. However, it was to the tune, REGENT SQUARE, composed by Henry Thomas Smart.
David, you might not see this. but, Big Fan!! From Somethin Bout Love until now., That both are the best.Hwever Other people might know you earlier than that. Haha. Merry Christmas Everyone. ! GBU
So good.. And normally I hate Christmas carols. But there is an exception to every rule. (They're not really so bad in June I just don't like to hear them over and over every year from the last Monday in November through the first Monday in January.) Gotta see the Mormon Tabernacle Choir....
Lieber Tabernakel Chor.
This is so beautiful, you guys should also watch the performance of this song by the piano guys, it features peter hollens, david, the choir and many other people! It is so beautiful.
Shepherds, in the fields abiding, Watching o'er your flocks by night, God with man is now residing, Yonder shines the infant light: [Chorus:] Gloria in excelsis deo 1 Gloria in excelsis deo Sages, leave your contemplations, Brighter visions beam afar; Seek the great desire of nations, Ye have seen His natal star; [Chorus] Saints before the altar bending, Watching long in hope and fear, Suddenly the Lord, descending, In His temple shall appear: Though an Infant now we view Him, He shall fill His Father’s throne, Gather all the nations to Him; Every knee shall then bow down: [Chorus] Gloria Deo.
I have always wished that "the provbial they" would just let him sing in his natural register ... it was his "very clean" looks which gave him the popularity ... He deserves to be respected for his serious musical performance which i truly believe he has. My ears tell me he is a true baritone. Bless him!

Angels, from the Realms of Glory. . . On Christmas Eve, 1816, the Sheffield Iris contained a fine Christmas poem entitled Angels, from the Realms of glory. The subscribers noted that the author of the poem was James Montgomery, editor of the Iris. They were not surprised that such a fine poem had been penned by the editor of their newspaper, for Montgomery had already distinguished himself as being one of the best sacred poets of England. Lord Byron once described him as being "a man of considerable genius", and Prof. Wilson predicted in the Blackwood's Magazine that his poems would live. Quoting Wilson's statement: "His poetry will live for he has a heart and imagination profound. .. It is as sincere as it is beautiful". That the prediction was well founded, is proved by the fact that over one hundred of Montgomery's hymns are still in use. James Montgomery was educated for the ministry, but he resisted the thought of becoming a minister. He drifted into journalism and soon became editor of The Sheffield Iris, a liberal journal. Montgomery was himself a vigorous liberal, being twice imprisoned for his views. In 1789 (the year of the outbreak of the French Revolution) he was sentenced to prison for three months for having printed a poem, The Bastille, surmounted by a woodcut representing Liberty and the British Lion. The inspiring melody for Montgomery's Christmas hymn was composed by Henry T. Smart, member of a family which had for three generations been prominent in the musical life of England. It was composed in 1867 during the latter part of his life, when he was so blind that the composition had to be committed to paper through dictation. I see I am not the only one who noticed...this is not Angels from the Realm of Glory. This is Angels We Have Heard on High. Still nice performance. Just have it under the wrong title.
No, it's the song. It's just arranged differently and it starts on the second verse and ends with the third. Still pretty, though. You can always google the lyrics to the song and follow along like I did because I too thought it was Angels We Have Heard on High. They use the UK version and tune.
But the text is the text of "Angels from the Realm of Glory." "Angels from the Realm of Glory set to the melody of Angels We Have Heard on High" is too long of a track title for a CD.
No, this IS "Angels from the Realms of Glory," at least one version of it. Portions of the lyrics and the melody are reused throughout different Christmas carols.
This isn't Angels From the Realms of Glory. It goes "come and worship Christ the newborn king. Angels from the realms of glory, wing your flight o'er all the earth." This is Angels We Have Heard on High.
Well, it is partially. Someone arranged the music and added some lyrics, but the lyrics are consistent with most of those from Angels, From the Realms of glory.
1:23 "Saints, before the altar bending, Watching long in hope and fear. Suddenly the Lord descending, In his tеmple shall appear" Lord, yes Jesus! Come quickly! I pray to see that wonderful day!
You will, from one side of the veil or the other.
The climactic “gather all the nations to him” is one of the best Tabernacle Choir moments. Period.
I KNOW it was so cool!!

For sure!! I've been going every year and this by far is my favorite!!! 😃
This rendition ALWAYS brings the Spirit of our Lord into my heart and enriches my soul.

Everytime watching this performance, I get my goose pimples.
I really like singing along - David is easy to sing with - Thank you for honoring our Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ and our Beloved Heavenly Father.
Haven’t heard this song since the last time I went to Christmas mass with my Poppop. Going on 3 years now. I miss you every day ❤️

I liked it better the 1st year he sang that same song with them & that little glitch in his voice - showed how emotional & special it was to him!

Now THAT'S how you end a song. Dang son.
P.S. Didn't know about this alternate name for the song, gonna have to check out the history behind that.
+The Elven Jedi: usually there's a different melody for "Angels from the Realms of Glory."
They went with the UK version, not the American one from what I've found.
is very amazing

This is NOT "Angels, from the Realms of Glory" this is "Gloria in Excelsis Deo"
+Amarella Harte You are absolutely right! This is always part of our Holy Catholic Christmas Mass. Thank you for pointing this out.
See my reply to +alamedavigilante. It explains some things about the arrangement of the song that they sing.
they were saying exshellis! my latin teacher gave me hell for saying it that way
