This song became my hope after my brother was killed. I was so lost, and couldn’t even imagine a life free of loss and grief. “Pain don’t hurt the same, I know. The lane I travel feels alone”. How true is this! The trauma and pain we deal with in life feels so isolating and cold, like we are fighting an uphill battle against life, pressure, expectations and past hurts.
To everyone who needs to hear it, you are loved and valuable, and your life is precious.

Been out for years and this still makes me tear up. He has a lot of message heavy raps. He is definitely in my top 10 rappers. Black spiderman, everybody, and under pressure are good ones to start with for him. Also, homicide, ft eminem 🔥
A lot of his older underground stuff is great to vibe to, but still have great lyrics that tell stories, mostly about his life. Gang related, fade away, I'm gone, alright, and flexicution are all great. His vibe and lyrics remind me a bit of J. Cole.

The first time I heard this song I was in bed and I completely broke down and continued to cry way past the song. It took me a very long time to first reach out for help and I often still find myself struggling to accept help many times, and this song gave me a moment of understanding that I'm not alone and there are people out there who care and are legitimately out there to help. Even when you know things as a fact, sometimes it takes time for you to realize these things.
A song I'd suggest that is also along the vein of social, emotional and mental issues is "Last to Say" by Atmosphere. Although CW as it deals with DV but Atmosphere is general is also a great group.

I've been to this point so many times in my life. One time in particular changed me. I think there's that one time that you're so close to actually... Being successful in your attempt that it scares you into changing your ways. For me, I don't even feel like the same person, like my whole thought process has changed. It's scary, but if anyone's feeling depressed and suicidal, try to reach out to someone, even someone online that has felt the same way, or near to it, talk to them, people care, even if they don't know you, there's people out there that cares, not to make themselves feel better, but to bring a little light into this world. Don't let your light fade, in the roughest of times, you'll feel defeated, but fight those demons who are trying to defeat you and say you're stronger and better than them. Cast them aside and leave them behind, because no matter what, you matter. (I should take my own advise sometimes, but that's difficult to do, so don't be like me, be better).

  • @searchingfororion

This is honestly, by far, my favorite reaction by you regarding anything. "The unnecessary amount of people extinguishing their own life because of outside pressures and influences is crazy."
Thank you for the brilliance and bravery in making that statement. The fact that the song is titled for the U.S. Suicide Prevention Hotline makes it even more poignant.
While this may not be my "typical" genre, *your* reaction made me equally engrossed and inspired me to want to learn more. I appreciate the broader horizon.

This song and Black Spiderman hooked me into Logic several years ago. Greatly appreciate your quick understanding what the song was about and love your stance on the subject. Having extinguishing thoughts in highschool and even have had a family member overdose 2 days after I turned 31 this past year always makes this song hit hard, but having it on my playlist immensely helps get me through the rougher days.

  • @MrKaelas

This is heavy stuff. To me, you have two amazing things here. The song itself which is relatable to anyone who has struggled with depression or dealing with a situation where they felt powerless. In other words, every one of us.
Then you have the music video, which is astonishingly powerful about a boy who doesn't get a chance to come out but gets "found out" and feels like he's lost all power in his life. And it feels so much like it's going to go bad, but the fact that it ends with his dad accepting him just makes it one of the most powerful music videos I've seen.

The way I personally view this, is the music video and the actual song are two different stories, and while the video relates to the song, the song isn't about the video in specific. The song encompasses a general view of why someone would need to call the hotline, some basic and relatable reasons that most people going through suicidal thoughts have, so that the general audience of people who haven't experienced them can understand.
I heard this song for the first time back in 2018, and back then I thought of it as a nice touching story about how someone fixed their mindset and had a nice life. Having re-found the song a few weeks ago, it's taken a whole new meaning to me personally, given the shit I've been through in the last barely two years (And before someone comes in and says some shit like "Well yeah, everyone's gone through shit in the past two years because of the pandemic, you're not special." the shit I'm talking about is completely separate from the pandemic, as in no correlation), and I have been pushed past my breaking point on multiple occasions, so hearing this song now genuinely makes me unable to prevent myself from crying.

My sister committed suicide by overdose 4 years ago in April. My mother passed away in August the year after from Alzheimer's. In October of that year I was held in the psych ward of the hospital due to attempted suicide. I realized after I had cut myself that I didn't want to die and I'll always remember my call to 911 crying and screaming that I didn't want to die. When I was released from the hospital my father had to come and pick me up. That was the worst thing I've ever had to do in my life, getting in the car with him. He almost lost another one. Since then I've become dedicated to speaking out about mental health illness and advocacy, but it's still so hard. Within the last year I've still lost 3 cousins to suicide. 1 was a Marine veteran. I'm so glad that this song was able to make the impact that it did. Thank you for reacting to it. I think any opportunity for it to gain any amount of traction again is so important! 💕💗💕

Watching you almost cry made it hard not to myself, this song rings true to myself & my own family's struggles with mental health. I'm glad the outreach & outspeak about mental health has progressed compared to when I was younger, it was so much more close minded.. but I do have to say the suicide hotline isn't a good idea for help, I know from others experience

My son lost his best friend 6 days ago. It wasn't suicide, or at least not intentional suicide, but yeah.
This world throws away the feelings of the young adults and they end up making horrific decisions that have life changing consequences.
Thank you for this reaction, and for watching it respectfully. Our young people need us to hear them in their entirety and help steer their decisions so they make good choices to reach their goals. RIP Xavier McBride you will be missed by all!

Great song with a powerful message. I agree with your statement, but want to just add to it. Let people be as they are, do what they do, as long as it's not hurting anyone physically or mentally.

The fast rapping with Eminem is like the first one I heard and then there's him on stage with a girl from the crowd that goes on stage that keeps up with his speed. Hehe.

Citizen Soldier has hard-hitting mental health awareness stuff kinda like this.
Homophobia was one of the things that drove me and my dad apart. When my little brother was in high school, a joking rumor started around that he was gay. To our dad's credit, dad did actually *ask* rather then jump to action, and did accept my brother's "no." (And luckily, it never occurred to dad to ask if my brother was bisexual, so he didn't have to lie.) As my brother told it, though, dad's response was then, "Good, because if you were, one of us would have to leave this house."
I knew our dad had always expressed a fair bit of homophobia and transphobia, but I struggled with processing that. Our parents were far from perfect, but they tried. It hadn't been any issue when I'd come out as asexual. If my brother came out, surely it'd just force our dad to rethink some things. I definitely wasn't going to try to pressure my brother into outing himself, though, and I definitely didn't want to out him. The incident itself gave me a way to inquire relatively safely, though, and my parents already knew I had a lot of very different views from them. "Hey, I heard this happened. So what would have happened if he'd said he was gay?" And dad told me, very seriously, looking like it pained him to say it, like *he* was somehow the one being hurt, "I don't think I could accept him."
Dad died (cancer) some years later, shortly after I realized I'm nonbinary. I never told him. It wouldn't have been good for either of us. And I'm not sure mom ever realized how damaging it is just knowing one parent's love is conditional, and the other does nothing about it.

I don't have any kids, but I have three nieces and a nephew. If any of them turn out to be gay/lesbian, trans, bi, whatever, I'll still love them the same as I do now.
